This is going to be a long rant. I do and don't understand what is up and looking for some explanations. Please bear with me.
I've been dating since the age of 20 i.e. college, when I was away from home. I was in a couple of serious relationships but my parents being typical strict conservative north Indian folks, were not open to me dating, so I kept my relationships secret. When I was 23-24 still doing my masters/phd my mother started pressuring me start looking for a guy to get married, made my profiles on matrimonial platforms etc. I was constantly refusing - wasn't interested in marriage at that time and let's just say my parents haven't set a great example of a marriage, so I clearly didn't like the idea of being married from a very young age. Around the age of 26 (i had started working), she started asking me if I have someone in my life, I did, but due to a few past incidents I knew better than to tell her I'm dating someone. I loved the guy I was with but it was LDR and we weren't there yet. At 27 I shared with her a little bit about the guy and she was receptive mostly. However, the relationship didn't pan out, so I told her I dropped the idea.
Meanwhile, I was constantly hounded with a whole bunch of profiles of guys from my community on a daily basis throughout this time. I had set a very rigid criteria, since I have been academically inclined, from tier 1 institutes, am decent looking and well I am picky. She had, overtime, chipped at my criteria by telling me I have to compromise if I want a match. I kept telling her over and over again, I was not interested in people who didn't meet it with reasons but still we had many fights over the time period and eventually I relented and lowered my standards (all this over phone as I was staying away).
There have been 2 guys I genuinely liked through AM and said yes to, but after decent amount of talks (over months) my parents did a background check and found out about their lifestyles and rejected them. Before the rejections, my mother was building the whole wedding processes and checklists and events in her fantasies and discussing with me while I showed little interest in it and kept telling her to be cool and we'll see when we get to that point. She also told me to not talk as much with those guys because that's proper. Boils my blood. Ugh.
Last year I introduced her to a guy, she liked him and started with her fantasies again. I told her to calm down and hold her horses nothing has happened yet. But she went on. It didn't pan out with the guy.
Now I'm 30, have been in a relationship with a wonderful guy I've known for many years. We're super compatible and I really love him. A few weeks ago, we decided to move forward. I met his parents and it was pretty chill he has a nice family (I already kinda love them). He met my mom too. And since then, she has started the whole thing again. We should meet his family like this, then we'll do this, you should start buying outfits, we'll buy these and these gifts, have these event etc. She's very excited. But I feel a mix of irritation/repulsion/rage/annoyance/guilt. I don't want participate in these discussions with her - she and I are not on the same page at all. She's again getting way too ahead of herself and the situation and building fantasies. Today morning she suddenly said to me that her and my dad (i had previously impressed on her that we wont do such conservative approach since and the whole family will go together, still she is stuck on just her and dad) will go see his family this sunday since its navratri and an auspicious time, and next few weeks are not auspicious so they wont be able to meet. I said it's too soon, please wait. She said fine, then i wont meet them at all. Ffs. It's affecting my general mood, and my feeling towards my relationship 😭😭

Hello everyone,
I've recently had some issues with high blood pressure (last reading was 144/97). What I've noticed is at night when I go to sleep I can feel my body/blood pulsing through mainly my back. I also have anxiety so knowing that my body is struggling with high blood pressure makes me worry all night about getting a heart attack or something.
I guess I just wanted to know if others have felt something similar and if it's something I should be super concerned with? Also 144/97 seems like a really bad reading. Should I be worried about having a heart attack/stroke or does it take a long time for that kind of thing to happen? I see the doctor on Friday to discuss but just wanted to get everyone's thoughts.

Hello! Thought I'd post something as I've found everyone else's experiences really useful. I'm a 30 y/o woman, healthy weight
I was admitted 7 am on Monday for a flat foot reconstruction on the left side. Procedures done were calcaneal osteomy, tendon transfer, spring ligament brace, and a gastronomic recession.
Lot of waiting around, was no food from midnight the day before and no water after 6 am. They came and gave me some water at about 9.30 until 11 am as it was clear I would be a few hours until theatre. I went in just before 2 pm and came out at 5 pm.
They put a canula line in. Had a local anaesthetic in the spine before they did the spinal block. After the spinal block they did the nerve block down the left leg (didn't feel it) and then put me out under general. Overall great experience, minor discomfort for the local but really very smooth and no real pain or anything to worry about.
Came round into recovery before they moved me to a ward. I'd just missed food time but a nurse found me a sandwich and some biscuits. I didn't have much of an appetite but slowly made sure I ate everything and drank fluids. Despite all the water I struggled to pass urine and ended up with a cathetar that night, which installed passed a little over 2L of fluid. Cathetar no problem. This was quite late though, and between that and an old woman on the ward getting up every hour the night was pretty disrupted.
Couldn't feel much until around 3 am, sensation came back to my non-operated leg well before that but the nerve block was doing great work for a while. Pain kicked in harder from around 4 am and felt a bit more pressure from swelling. Pain mostly like a burning sensation, sharpness along certain points, throbbing at the heel. Whilst not pleasant, it's not a case of sat there screaming for sure, given you'll be given some pain relief.
I was given oxycodone primarily in my stay, slow release twice a day and then a couple of fast acting as necessary. Paracetamol and ibuprofen I also had a couple of times.
They were going to keep me in (as I still hadn't passed urine) but changed their minds by late afternoon on the second day. I went to the toilet before I left though, no issues, was just the effect of the numbing that was stopping me before. I was given a quick instruction on how to use crutches and also navigating stairs.
I was feeling very dizzy and nauseous on the second day from about 11 am. Wasn't sure why, I was fine laid down, sat up was a bit 'fuzzy' and standing up made me want to throw up. Spent most of it in bed but had to cut short the physio demo because of it. No biggie though as I picked it up quickly. I eventually threw up at about 5.30 pm and then got shipped to discharge instantly (lol, talk about caring). I felt really rough, shaking, nauseous, dizzy. The discharge nurse was lovely though and organised me some anti-sickness before I left.
Returned home, lasted a couple of hrs, couldn't eat because of the sickness. Crashed out at 9 am, woke at 1 am needing to pee, then slept instantly again until 7 am.
Today is now day 3. Feeling better in myself although the pain is a little worse now I'm off the oxycodone. I've got codeine primarily, paracetamol, and if I need it some morphine but I'm trying to avoid it.
I bought one of those proper leg pillows and I noticed when I got up last night I didn't feel the same swelling pain like I had at the hospital, I think the pillow was a brilliant purchase and I'd highly recommend for the elevation and ease of sleep.
Walking on crutches sucks a bit, I'm touch toe weight bearing but it's not without discomfort and easy to cause pain so trying to stay off it other than the toilet. My mum has come to stay with me and has been epic. It'll be a couple of weeks now until I go back for a check and change of cast. Got to inject blood thinners everyday. I don't think I can move my little toe anymore in itself (just altogether), but not sure. Might just take some time.
I wasn't too worried about the surgery, I've had a lot of time to make peace with it, just wanted to say there's nothing that scary I guess. It's all very manageable.

I'm allergic to my dear cat for 3 years now. A year ago I had my first asthma attack. The class of my allergy is 5, which means it could be severe.
I'm taking:

• oral antihistamines
• nasal corticosteroids and antihistamines which mostly help
• inhaler corticosteroids for asthma but not always because I get unpleasant side effects (tremors, low blood pressure, anxiety etc.)

For the last month symptoms got worse. I'm afraid I got even more allergic and I started to wonder should I rehome my cat. Even the thought of it shatters my heart.
In the future I will:

• move to a house with a yard. Now I live in a small apartment with my SO and our cat so I can't have a seperate place for sleeping without allergens. It will take maybe 2 years for us move to a house but we will try to do it in a year and hope for the best
• try alternative treatment like acupuncture

I have air purifier (doesn't help), I vacuum, wash the floors and dust every day. SO brushes his hair and cleans his litter box also every day.
Does anyone have similar experience? I just can't rehome him. My only option would be to temporarily give him to family or friends until we buy a house. That isn't ideal situation, but it's better than saying goodbye forever. The rational thing to do would be to find a new home for him where he could be just as happy as he is now, but he's a member of my family and I will do anything for him.

My father died of a heart attack (myocardial infarction) at age 49 with no prior heart issues.
My mum died after having a cardiac arrest at age 56, she had long term health issues -high blood pressure that was difficult to control through diet and pills, she had 3-4 stents inserted and previously had a stroke (ischemic stroke) around 7-8 years before she died. As far as I know both of her grandmothers died following a hypertension crisis aged 49 and 57.
My maternal grandmother recently passed away at 81. did no die directly as a result of heart disease but that certainly was a contributing factor, she also had hypertension with blood pressure over 160 and coronary heart disease.
Paternal grandmother also had hypertension, heart disease and died following a stroke
None of my relatives had high cholesterol, obesity or diabetes.
I am currently 26F and I’m worried that this could be hereditary at what age should I start seeing a cardiologist?

Just started taking this for hypertension. Is there anything I should be on the lookout for in terms of negative side effects? I see posts all over about people ending up in the hospital for low sodium / potassium so just looking for any tips to avoid negative side effects. Have been constantly thirsty and going to the bathroom the first two days of being on this medication. Blood pressure seems to already be lowering so I guess it’s working. Thank you!

Hi guys.. So here it goes. I'm a 38 y/o woman.
I've had hives on my feet for many years, mainly in summer, when it's hot. The last 3 years they spread. They're pressure/heat hives. And lately dermatographia appeared. They've gotten worse and now they can affect any part of my body. They come on quickly and leave within 2 hours. And will return later on the day. A never ending cycle.
So for the last 3 years I've been getting, what I call, anxiety or panic attacks for no reason at all. They started out of the blue and are always accompanied by shortness of breath, tight chest, a feeling of utter doom, fast heartbeat and tight throat with hyperventilation. I ended up on the ER many times. They never tested me for anything. Just my heart rate, blood pressure, and this once they tested my bloodgas to see if I was hyperventilating. I was. So I didn't understand the use of the test. It was obvious. These symptoms mostly came on after dinner. But at the ER they always told me its anxiety or panic or they didn't know. Yet I don't have anything to be anxious about.
Over the last few years I started also getting headaches, chills, hard time swallowing, throat tightness, dizzyness, fast heartbeat off and on, very short of breath and a change in my astma. Like broncho spasms. I was told it's anxiety once again.
I have a huge history of allergies and do have asthma. That I've known for a long time. And never had those strange issues before.
Since 2022 I've been getting low blood pressure spells, severe dizzyness off and on, headaches, sometimes diarrhea after dinner and brainfog.
Last week I went out to a mall and I was feeling weird all morning, and after visiting the mall I broke out in panic, hard time breathing and a feeling of doom. Like I was about to faint. That didn't happen.
Because the hives have worsened, and now these "panic attacks" happen, I start wondering if it's some sort of anafylactic issue. When I read about anafylactsis, I have all the symptoms except the angioedema on my face and body. I also don't have the severe hives. Mine are more red hot patches, which get larger with itching/scratching. But do come out of the blue. They sometimes get raised, I can write on my skin. But mostly theyre red and hot.
How can I tell what is what? I'm still alive, have never received an epipen, I did get a shot of antihistamines (or steroids? Can't remember) from my gp when I had one of those episodes. But I can't tell if it went away by itself or if the shot made it dissapear.
I'm very scared of anafylacsis. And scared to be home by myself nowadays, because of this. I live alone so it's pretty hard. And since idk what's going on with my body all of a sudden, and those weird symptoms. I wonder if anyone can relate?
Is this a mental or physical problem?

"5 wolves, they got in yesterday by the looks. Polina was small and still a calf, an easy meal. But more than enough to fill the wolves. They probably have a den in the forest, Ill head to town later and see if any man will help me clear it out."
"We could do it father. You and I should be more than capable enough."
Jürgen smiled.
"All right, we head back home first. We will need some equipment."
It was still long before noon when they got back to their pasture. Fixing the hole in the shed the two set off into the forest. Jürgen had taken his old Reislaufer pike, shortened to a 2 meter spear, his sword and dagger. Timo had been given a shortbow, an Italian crossbow his father had taken home some years ago, as well as a sling and dagger. Apart from armaments they brought survival essentials for these mountains, rope, climbing spikes, fire making kit, and a snare to hunt small game as they made their way through the wilderness. Ahead of them lay one of the most imposing peaks of the Alpine Chain, the Wildhorn. It would be in its shadow that the father and son would find the hunters of their livestock.
The trek was easily navigable at first but soon the vegetation became thinner as it gave way to more harsh faces. Jürgen would not lose the track however, the wolves were much more agile than them, able to leap up the rocky faces with ease, they would need to ascend further to reach their den.
"Father, is there nothing easier for the wolves to hunt? Our cows are protected in the shed, could they not simply hunt deer?"
Jürgen turned to his son.
"The deer are all gone Timo, they have moved further north to the plateau, seeking warmer climates. These wolves have not moved, and while our cows are sheltered, they are easy to find and a rich feast. The mountains are harsh, but this is the territory of the wolves. We have placed a fat and lazy meal ripe for the picking."
"Fat and lazy like the Italians?"
Jürgen laughed.
"Yes son, and we are the wolves of these mountains."
He continued as he chuckled when he heard Timo stumble behind him. Quickly grabbing the boy he kept him from tumbling down a small rocky rise.
"Careful boy. This place will throw you down, break every bone in your body and leave you for the birds. This is not a Sunday stroll to church, this is a place not made for men to tread."
This scared Timo slightly, but there was something of a rush to being here. Challenging nature, fighting an insurmountable force. The mountains make you feel small, but to conquer something as unforgiving as the mountains was something that made his mind wander. He returned to the moment quickly however, the sun was beginning to set, the night would be upon them soon.
They set up camp under a rocky overhang, with a small campfire. Timo shot some Rock Partridges and plucked them to eat. Snow gently began to fall as the sky darkened, giving way to a clear starry sky. A half-moon made for a dark night.
"Son, you take the first watch. Wake me in a few hours."
"Watch? Why do we need to take watch?"
A howl rang through the night, coming from further up the mountain. Timo felt a chill go down his spine as he loaded the crossbow and his father began to drift to sleep. The light of the campfire reached a few meters out, illuminating some of the surrounding brush. He could hear movement in the darkness, eyes flashing in the dying light of the campfire. Adding more tinder to the fire keeping the light grew to a expose a few meters further into the night. A large grey shape suddenly ducked out of the light into the dark. He nudged his dad, rousing him from his sleep. Up in a start Jürgen grabbed his spear and stood in front of his son.
"How many?"
"At least 2, maybe more."
Grabbing a lit piece of wood from the fire Jürgen held it aloft. 2 wolves in front of him bared their teeth as they emerged from the darkness. One began to charge at him when a bolt drove into the beast's skull, killing it. Timo began to reload the crossbow. The other wolf now charged, and from behind them another, hidden in the dark. Before Jürgen could turn the wolf in front of him pounced and threw him to the ground. He put his forearm under the wolf's jaw to keep its jaws away as the other hand grabbed his dagger and began to furiously stab upwards. Another battle, another push, death inches closer. He heard his son scream as he felt the wolf go limp. Grabbing his spear he got to his feet to help his son. He saw the flash of steel as Timo grabbed his own dagger and drove it into the side of the wolf which stumbled off of him. The wolf was larger and a lighter shade of grey than the two wolves they had already killed. It barrelled into the darkness ahead. Timo's arm was covered in blood as his shoulder had been wounded by the wolf's attempt to get at his throat.
"Lay still, we need to stop the bleeding."
Applying pressure, Jürgen took out some cloth bandages and poured out some beer onto them. He had seen something like this on campaign, but never done it himself. He had seen men walk away from worse wounds than this though, as he felt the spot where his eye used to be itch. By daybreak the wound was bound and had stopped bleeding, but the pain was still fresh. During the night they had skinned the wolves. Jürgen got up.
"Time to go, the wolf den will not be far."
There was no resistance from Timo, he knew that there was no going back until the job was done. Loading the crossbow was immensly painful but it would be blissful compared to death by wolf. The two continued along the ridgeline, a 10 meter drop to their left, and a sheer rock face to their right. Looking down Timo saw drops of blood marking the path ahead, the wounded wolf. The blood getting fresher and fresher as they continued. Soon they reached a small cave on the mountainside.
"Be careful, there are at least 2 wolves in there, and one is injured. A cornered animal is unpredictable and will fight hard. You must be ready."
Steadying themselves they ducked into the den. It was not a deep den, and soon they saw one wolf wounded, bleeding from a gash in its ribs. By his side a she wolf who instantly got up and raised her hackles. Just like her partner she was larger and older. The male stumbled to his feet as his eyes went wild. As soon as the male moved, Timo took it out with the crossbow, a final whine as it died. The female charged forward as Jürgen dispatched it with his spear. They stood there in silence for a good while.
"You skin these two, I will wait outside. You did well son."
"It needed to be done. How would our cows ever had been safe with these monsters in the woods."
Jürgen stopped.
"What did you say? Monsters? These creatures had no ill intent. Do you not see? Mother and father, the two we killed last night were their pups. They have been in these mountains longer than us, this was their home long before any canton. Violence for survival is not an evil act, defending your home is not monstrous, and the dying in that fight is honourable."
Timo scoffed.
"And you are the wolf or the cow? The men you killed in war, was that done to defend our home? Are we evil?"
They began their trek home, Jürgen had no response. For hours they walked down the mountain, retracing their steps until they arrived back at the cow shed, reaching it by the end of the day. The cows mooed gently as the two removed their equipment. Grabbing two wooden cups Jürgen poured himself and Timo some beer.
"I understand that you would feel the way you feel. I went south too much and for too long. I missed years of your life. I was not there when your mother died, and I will never forgive myself for that. What I said is right, the defence of our homes is something that we will do till the death. This land is too precious to us to give up. But we took the land of others, I killed men for conquest and war. There is something monstrous about that. But I do not regret it, it was something I was very good at, and I had a duty to you as my family to provide for you as well as a duty to the canton when called upon. The laws that govern men and animals are different. The wolves kill to survive, I killed because I was paid to do so. Money that I spent on you and your sister. I know it does not excuse it, and I am sure that when I die, St. Peter will judge me for those actions. But I would spend eternity in damnation if I could ensure you and your sister do not live in squalor and poverty. I know this is not going to be the end of this discussion, but it is important to me that you understand why I left you for so long. Hi, I'm new to learning about PoTS and have been seeing a lot of resources about blood pressure drops and fainting.
However, my symptoms are a bit different and I'm confused. I get pre-syncope A LOT and am symptomatic in other ways basically all the time (some days are worse than others), but I never actually faint. I always sit or lie down or walk around to avoid this happening.
Additionally, my blood pressure is all over the place. It almost always gets higher (sometimes too high), right up until I am about to pass out then it seems to drop.
I wondered if anyone else can relate? Is this normal for anyone else here? I'm feeling like a bit of an imposter as almost all of the resources I've found online talk about fainting and ways help raise your blood pressure.

My son was born via c-section three months ago today. I thought the surgery itself was cake. However, I reacted to the spinal tap with horrible shaking. I was shaking so bad that I couldn’t speak through my chattering mouth and they couldn’t get a blood pressure reading on me without holding my arm down. That was the worst part for me.
My husband and I have been discussing the best time to have another child. I would LOVE to but the shaking seriously sucked and it makes me nervous to think about going through that again. I hate to sound dramatic, but that part caused me to have a few meltdowns in the hospital during recovery. I was devastated that I couldn’t hold my baby, talk to him, or even have him lay on my chest because of how bad I was shaking. My question is for other c-sections mom who experienced this or maybe anybody in the medical field who may know… If my body reacted that way to the spinal last time, is it going to happen again? Or can I have a different reaction the second time?
