I unlocked PvP since it was announced the season is ending, and couldn't get a queue for either ranked or casual.
Figured there would be last minute people wanting to get these rewards, and this was in the evening EST.
I had to do the Crystal Tower for story progression and each queue took almost an hour as DPS so maybe there still isn't enough people on this datacenter.

A couple weeks back my wife and I were talking about our formative teenage years. We had fun reminiscing about the dumb and the good, and it somehow came up that as nerdy and geeky as it is, one of my fondest memories from high school was spending months worth of DKP to be the first in my guild to get the T6 chest piece and the mace from Illidan in the same night. I explained to her how exhilarating it was to get that Illidan kill and how cool it was to go back to Orgrimmar and stand on top of that small building (you remember the one) and have dozens of people promptly gather around me to check out a full T6 shaman - something very rare on our realm at the time.
As I was further getting into things like how much coordination it took to clear Hyjal and BT, how we organized raid nights around school/work, what my duties as an officer and lead healer were, a wave of nostalgia and longing for those days took over me. While I haven't played since not long after the launch of Wrath due to life getting busier, I had a sudden urge to jump back into the game.
Sadly, I gave my account to a guild mate around 2009, so I couldn't recover my beloved troll shaman. As I didn't really expect to still have him, so after a moment of silence honoring Verdox, I went ahead and made a new account, bought Dragonflight and I jumped right back into the game. Here's where I'd appreciate some advice on class and role selection.
Onto the questions
So with a big dumb smile on my face I watched all the trailers, listened to lore videos for a couple weeks during my commute to work and made a brand new character (this time Ally; I do not like the new Orgrimmar and Sylvanas. I miss old Durotar, Barrens and Thrall already).
In the past, my main was Shaman. Restoration in raid, Elemental in arenas and battlegrounds. I loved that guy. Chain heal, chain lightning, ghost wolf, MANA TIDE saving the day more times than I can count. My alt was combat rogue, and while I couldn't utilize him raids, unless we had the rare alt night when they didn't need me healing, I liked him a lot in easier content; Kael'thas has died to my maces many times.
Today though I'm having some trouble commiting to a class. My partner in 2v2s and one of my best guildies was a frost mage, so started there (always wanted to play one, I love arcane magic lore). I leveled up my Draenei mage and I really liked it, but being a busy dad with 2 kids and a demanding job with long hours at times, I have concerns about being able to get into groups as a dps. Then again, I'm not convinced I have the extra time I need to put into learning all the dungeon routes to be an effective tank, so I once again may turn to healing. I have leveled a holy paladin and a holy priest: pally feels very nice, though AOE is a bit lacking, while the priest in general feels a little bit anemic in comparison, but it still plays just fine.
However, I'm very much concerned about the added stress of healing (or tanking). I'm an engineering manager in highly specialized field, meaning a buttload of stress I need to manage on a day to day basis. WoW for me this time around is a source of relaxation at the end of the day, or during a long pipe smoking session on the weekends. As such, even if I save queuing times by not playing dps, I have some reservations about playing heals due to the toll it may take on my mental health. Am I overthinking this? Should I stick with my mage or should I invest in a more sought after role? I'd appreciate y'all's thoughts on this. Thanks!

Ok. So just had my first 8 or so games of ranked and I hated every single game.
Searching for a match.. This takes an absolute age. Is it the player count?? Quite often I am searching for 5 mins.
Control.. For a start this mode with 6 players doesn't work well and for 4 players jesus... It's horrible and just doesn't work.
Teams.. Not once did I enter a game with more or less even levels. Classic example myself a lvl one and three others no higher than 6 against a team in which they was all over 30. This happened over and over again.
Weapons. Taq 56 is the go to weapon and nothing else.. Well wow, no variety there.
All in all I found ranked uninspiring and I was really hoping for so much more.
Obviously people will love it and fair enough, it's a matter of opinion.
Soo, all that said, what do y'all think about ranked??

What I do like about the game:
• I can play it on my phone • Something to do • Getting exceptional items which make my bag glow • Class distinction and play styles • Graphics • Damage crits and streaks • Music • Sounds • Class Change • Fishing
What I don’t like about the game:
• Zero Customer Support • No Community Representatives • Bug filled releases and bugs which have been ignored for months • A lack of accountability and acknowledgment of issues in the game • Extreme Monetisation • Battlegrounds - Matchmaking - Bugs - Latency - Attacker massive disadvantage - Queue system • Deeds of Valor - traps you into playing or you will fall ridiculously behind a minimum of 9 weeks. • Set item grind • loop farming • upgrade materials • Rng is not truly Rng • too many daily grinds
Reasons it’s difficult for me:
For me personally it’s because I have spent money on it (circa €1k from June - January) and I genuinely had a hope until recently that things in the game would improve over time but in fact it’s quite the opposite.
I have zero problem is spending money on hobbies and things you enjoy and that varies person to person. For some it’s a lot of money to spend on gaming for others its not. I spent circa €2.5k on my PS5 and set up and honestly I just play Fortnite on that at the moment.
I’m addicted and play to maintain my character competitively which is insane since PvP is this game is not skill based. The windows to make skilled based decisions that are impactful to the outcome of the battleground are few. Anyways these are my thoughts is anyone else in a similar boat or feel the same about the state of the game?
I would love to find an enjoyable MMORPG outside of the Blizzard ecosystem as I for the last 20 years have been in it from Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo 2 & 3, WoW various expansions and returned for classic to Hearthstone and because of those sentiments ended up on Diablo Immortal.

After the update of today I needed to reset my talents for holy paladin. Since I was dependent on talent builds from others I didn't know what to choose exactly. So I chose some things and hopped into solo shuffle (1650cr)
I lost 0-6 and lost maximum points and went back to somewhere around 1450 ish. I've changed some things and hopped back in again and won 6-0. Yet now instead of giving me a decent amount of CR it actually gave me nothing (+0). The next game i lost 2-4 and it decided to give me -66 and the game after I had a draw 3-3 and it gave me +0.
Now i'm back in the mmcr I really don't want to be in. I grinded my ass off the get out of this elo so I didn't have to play with (excuses my language) literate dombo's.
Now I think the CR thing has something to do with MMR. But I can't wrap my head around the idea I won 6-0 and got 0 points for it, totally not rewarding at all.
Anyone got tips for me? Only thing why I play WoW is cause of PVP.

- Next event, after Voth event ends, is First Contact Day
- Ship from SNW soon(tm), though probably not one we were expecting
- Zen store ships coming up. Kael believes one of the Zen store ships is technically a Lower Decks ship
- Kael hasn't heard anything regarding a bundle for DSC ending
- Unlikely Cryptic will make new starting experiences
- Kael believes theres some new item set coming soon
- When STO was launched on consoles there were 15 countries that it didn't get launched on the Playstation store for, for w/e reason, and Cryptic is working on getting that fixed
- "End of game" for STO isn't happening any time soon
- The tech is there to make costume items for vanity pets, Kael isn't sure it will happen any time soon
- Kael will pass on beards for Romulans
- When asked about making older, non full spec, Zen store/lockbox ships upgraded to full spec to make them more relevant/on par with current ships Kael said that the T6x upgrades were made to help with that, and that theres more stuff coming in that area
- To get the Voth battlezone to work with the event Jesse had to do some "under the hood" magic because the game editor couldn't do it directly. The data was able to be handled by the engine, just not in a way that was directly available to them. Had to get a new icon made for the battlezone from the UI artist Joe. "Most difficult" part was opening up the battlezone and editing all the events to capture areas to give credit for completion of the event which involved.... one whole line of data!
- Jesse says it was about time they added the Battlezones to events. STO has been running events using TFOs/mini-games like Omega molecules for awhile now, why not integrate the battlezones? They have obvious break points in capturing sections that can be used for event credit. This new option seems to resonate with players, so they might do it again.
- When asked about small craft content Kael/Jesse talk about the "Mario Kart" gameplay they tested for small craft in the past. They spent weeks and weeks making it, and even got to actual testing of it, but found that the amount of work needed to make it feel good in the game was more than the payoff they would get out of it(there was a semi-long conversation about camera, movement, weight of objects, etc, between games that makes each game work/feel as it needs to be, and how STO's ship system just wasn't built for cart racing so it doesn't feel good)
- Issue with bringing the DPS test map on Tribble over to live involves both fixing rewards, and that it was made by a developer who no longer works for Cryptic so someone like Jesse would have to find the map in the code, see it how works, bring it over to live, find ways to it could be exploited and fix them, etc.(Cryptic has also previously mentioned the map isn't very optimized and bringing it over to live server would lag the game)
- Issue with the old Maco/Omega/Honor Guard unlocks is that they were awarded in ways that they don't structure the data anymore. So a designer like Jesse has to go find where in the data did they award this thing. Then it has to be passed to a programmer who has to figure out how this is actually unlocking the costume. Then it has to be sent to a costume artist who has to decide if this is something they want to give out, or does it need to be fixed up for clipping/species lists. Its not as easy as just "flip switch costume unlocked". Kael says he will ask Jarod about see if it can be added as rewards for like a Borg event or something
- Spock's volcano suit was brought up as a possible reward for this years First contact Day, but a more fun reward was thought up/decided instead. Cryptic is still aware people want it, but right now its just a costume with no stats and someone in systems would have to build the actual EV suit
- Ground vehicles, like the Argo, would require a larger overhaul to get working. The Voth mech suit works because its basically just "big group person". While Champions has vehicles theres some hard limits on what they can do. Compares it to the shuttle issues. What does it feel like to drive a car in STO? What maps can you use it on? Is it actually going to fit in all the places we want it to on a map? What happens when you crash? When you run into another car? When you drive over a critter? How is throttle handled? Do you have to shift gears? Is it automatic? Can other people ride in the car and/or possibly shoot a gun while in the car?

- Turning hoverboards on in maps like New Romulus is possible, but would require some fiddling since hoverboards work by defining a "volume" on the map where hoverboards are allowed. You have to be careful about things like ground clearance. If you notice you can just too high and accidentally have the hoverboard power turn off because the volume for allowing hoverboards only really covers the area directly above the water
- Cryptic is having ongoing discussions about how to make the V-Rex less campable
- V-Rex not counting for daily event progress it intended because of the camping issue
- Porting things between STO/Champions/Neverwitner is really difficult. Champion is locked to its own code branch meaning its more stable, but doesn't have many of the features STO/Neverwinter do. STO and Neverwinter are easier to port between because they're developed in tandem, but differences in how the game's play mean you can just port enemies between games without having to do things like rebuilding the animation rig.
- Champions isn't on console because it just didn't work out that way. It was originally going to be on Xbox 360, but that didn't work out for w/e reason.
- Reason why special BOFFs, like those based on actors, aren't editable is due to costume clipping/performance reasons. Some costume pieces don't look good on X species, other don't match well with other costume part, some things like capes/loose cloth is very performance heavy, etc. Geordi and EMH BOFFs were editable because of being very generic human shape without too many issues.
- The reason why Defense of Starbase One was bottable was because it was originally designed to require you to clean up each wave of Klingons before it would move onto the next wave. However, around the time they made it, there was a big engine bug where all instances of that "clean up the remaining enemy" would never complete. This was due to a fake entity being on the map/being used for code purposes that the game would count as an enemy even though it wasn't. In order to get around the bug the TFO was changed to just have automatic wave progression, which made it AFKable. That issue was solved, so they changed it back/adjusted what the game looks for in regards to people AFKing to make it not AFKable.
- Oddest bug Christian ever worked on was a bug that caused two people PVPing to revert to level 0 after the PVP match was over
- John said he would think about changing the Terran Valkyrie pets to use agony phasers, and that it was an interesting idea, but no confirmation of if/when it will happen.
- Updating the old uniforms is unlikely since the character artists are working on new things hinted at the end of recent missions(likely talking about the Borg arc tease)
- To revamp something like DSEs would require
- The environment team looking at the map and deciding if it looks good enough, or if its janky/needs some fixes. Spend several weeks doing that.
- Content would have to track down all associated bugs like critters warping in, fading out, then warping back in again. That's a big question mark since Cryptic doesn't know what causes it, and thus, how long it will take to fix.
- In regards to refreshing the content itself would require things like. Bringing in a voiced characteactor to be a liaison for the DSEs. Have the writer write up different text for each type of DSE. Couple days for writing, a couple days for recording, a couple days for the audio team to set audio levels and hook it all up. Character reaction has to sculpt their likeness, even if its a mini contact box and not a full dialogue screen. That's weeks of work. If its an STO original character thats still days of work. Content would then have to do things like make higher level DSEs. This would involve copying the DSEs and changing the encounter levels on them, set it all up, and make a new version of the map for all of this stuff. That's a couple days of work due to the number of DSEs. Adding new gameplay features like closing portals, rescuing ships etc, would take a few days to a week. Then it needs to be copied to all the other DSEs and edited for each kind of enemy to make sure it works. Then it goes to QA who has to test all of them, all variations, how it works with teams of people, if things like fighting one type of enemy breaks the new gameplay feature. This is a few weeks for QA to go through everything/send back to programmers to fix issues. Would also include adding DSEs to quadrants without them, critter groups not currently covered by DSEs, new accolades, trying them into the endeavor system, etc. Jesse says he would schedule around 1.5-2 months worth of time to bring DSEs up to 2023 levels of gameplay.
- Don't assume devs know about a bug just because its old, and if you've posted about it on the forums before, but it hasn't been fixed, don't be afraid to bump the thread up to get more visibility on it.

I tried a few Sorc builds over the weekend. Seems like my favourite (Charged Bolt) isn't a viable build at all in D4. I had quite a successful build in D2/D2R and I loved playing this build. It's never going to win any DPS or PVP battles, but it was just so much fun. Tried the same in D4 but it was just terrible. Now obviously one part of this is that it's still early game, but even taking that into account the build seemed extremely weak. Would love to hear your guys ideas on possible viable builds with CB as main? Again, this is just fun, I know it's not for everyone.

Spent 10 hours a day playing vanilla, loved every second but quit a month into tbc because the game just didn't feel like wow to me anymore. Azeroth felt empty, no wpvp in outlands because of flying and now also because every server is either 99% horde or ally which is probably my biggest issue and one that blizzard seem to have no intention of fixing.
Now that wotlk is underway I know it's only a matter of time before the last raids are cleared in maybe 6-7 months and the game dies because no one seems to want classic cata. So is it worth investing my time to try and get geared and try some current raids like ulduar? I'm level 70 ally druid with decent feral gear ready to see what northrend levelling has in store. But am I too late to the party? Or is there still plenty to do and will be for a while?

Since the introduction of the Attunesummoner class, the other classes have been completely eclipsed. As someone who was working to level to Gilgamesh, my kingdom partner can now summon a hydra with 37k hp while me as a Magister barely has 4k. My identity in the game as a tank for my kingdom is outright useless because a simple summon outclasses me simply by existing. The disparity between Summoner and literally every other class is an example of poor game design. If this were an MMO they would have had to patch summoner day 1. You've made Gilga, Heretic, Diety, and Realmshifter unnecessary outside of partying up for a gauntlet.
There are no defined weaknesses of the summoner class as poor defensive stats are easily mitigated for them. For offense they have summons, summons who will sometimes take attacks and debuffs meant for the summoner, allowing them the time to summon another hydra/colossus/dragon. I had to watch as my friends sped through t7 in 2 days, even farming the t8 zones during the climb while I'm having to struggle to fell the Enlightened King and Queen due to Ultima. Summoners can outright solo world bosses with broken gear and get the 300 million party xp for it while the rest of the classes have to balance gear, ammity, and their items so they don't needlessly waste things. Don't even get me started on a world bosses ultimate attack being made worthless once you realize a summon can just eat the damage. Oh no the summoner now has to summon another hydra so they can have 5 again instead of 4? Wow such a well defined weakness!!!!!(Sarcasm)
Why would I even look at the other classes? They don't offer anything that summoner can't do better simply by existing. Who cares about things like blight or sleep if the monsters are dead due to it being 5 summons vs a max of 3 mobs? Debuffs would actually be a dps loss for the summoner lmfao. Their action economy alone makes them far superior to everyone else. No other class gets to attack up to 6 times in a single turn, hell if you want to say that skills like tricut are 3 attacks, two hydras using tricut alone doubles a single unit using tricut once. Please delete this class from the game, you've made your other classes unnecessary. I get my argument is all over the place but man, losing my spot in my kingdom to a singular hydra is not something that would happen in ORNA.

Apparently there's been 1000s of people online at once every day, like, more players on some of the main clusters than are on some of the individual WOTLK Classic realms, like my original one Old Blanchy.
