2023.03.22 10:01 sw_faulty Why You Should Go Vegan

According to The Vegan Society:
"Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."

1. Ethics

1.1 Sentience of Animals

I care about other human beings because I know that they are having a subjective experience. I know that, like me, they can be happy, anxious, angry or upset. I generally don't want them to die (outside of euthanasia), both because of the pain involved and because their subjective experience will end, precluding further happiness. Their subjective experience is also why I treat them with respect them as individuals, such as seeking their consent for sex and leaving them free from arbitrary physical pain and mental abuse. Our society has enshrined these concepts into legal rights, but like me, I doubt your appreciation for these rights stems from their legality, but rather because of their effect (their benefit) on us as people.
Many non-human animals also seem to be having subjective experiences, and care for one another just like humans do. It's easy to find videos of vertebrates playing with one another, showing concern, or grieving loss. Humans have understood that animals are sentient for centuries. We've come to the point that laws are being passed acknowledging that fact. Even invertebrates can feel pain. In one experiment, fruit flies learned to avoid odours associated with electric shocks. In another, they were given an analgesic which let them pass through a heated tube, which they had previously avoided. Some invertebrates show hallmarks of emotional states, such as honeybees, which can develop a pessimistic cognitive bias.
If you've had pets, you know that they have a personality. My old cat was lazy but friendly. My current cat is inquisitive and playful. In the sense that they have a personality, they are persons. Animals are people. Most of us learn not to arbitrarily hurt other people for our own whims, and when we find out we have hurt someone, we feel shame and guilt. We should be vegan for the same reason we shouldn't kill and eat human beings: all sentient animals, including humans, are having a subjective experience and can feel pain, enjoy happiness and fear death. Ending that subjective experience is wrong. Intentionally hurting that sentient being is wrong. Paying someone else to do it for you doesn't make it better.

1.2 The Brutalisation of Society

There are about 8 billion human beings on the planet. Every year, our society breeds, exploits and kills about 70 billion land animals. The number of marine animals isn't tracked (it's measured by weight - 100 billion tons per year), but it's likely in the trillions. Those are animals that are sexually assaulted to cause them to reproduce, kept in horrendous conditions, and then gased to death or stabbed in the throat or thrown on a conveyor belt and blended with a macerator.
It's hard to quantify what this system does to humans. We know abusing animals is a predictor of anti-social personality disorder. Dehumanising opponents and subaltern peoples by comparing them to animals has a long history in racist propaganda, and especially in war propaganda. The hierarchies of nation, race and gender are complemented by the hierarchy of species. If humans were more compassionate to all kinds of sentient life, I'd hope that murder, racism and war would be more difficult for a normal person to conceive of doing. I think that treating species as a hierarchy, with life at the bottom of that hierarchy treated as a commodity, makes our society more brutal. I want a compassionate society.
To justify the abuse of sentient beings by appealing to the pleasure we get from eating them seems to me like a kind of socially acceptable psychopathy. We can and should do better.

2. Environment

2.1 Greenhouse Gas Emissions

A 2013 study found that animal agriculture is responsible for the emission 7.1 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, or 14.5% of human emissions.
A 2021 study increased that estimate to 9.8 gigatonnes, or 21% of human emissions.
This is why the individual emissions figures for animal vs plant foods are so stark, ranging from 60kg of CO2 equivalent for a kilo of beef, down to 300g for a kilo of nuts.
To limit global warming to 1.5 degrees by 2100, humanity needs to reduce its emissions by 45% by 2030, and become net zero by 2050.
Imagine if we achieve this goal by lowering emissions from everything else, but continue to kill and eat animals for our pleasure. That means we will have to find some way to suck carbon and methane out of the air to the tune of 14.5-21% of our current annual emissions (which is projected to increase as China and India increase their wealth and pick up the Standard American Diet). We will need to do this while still dedicating vast quantities of our land to growing crops and pastures for animals to feed on. Currently, 77% of the world's agricultural land is used for animal agriculture. So instead of freeing up that land to grow trees, sucking carbon out of the air, and making our task easier, we would instead choose to make our already hard task even harder.

2.2 Pollution

Runoff from farms (some for animals, others using animal manure as fertiliser) is destroying the ecosystems of many rivers, lakes and coastlines.
I'm sure you've seen aerial and satellite photographs of horrific pigshit lagoons, coloured green and pink from the bacteria growing in them. When the farms flood, such as during hurricanes, that pig slurry spills over and infects whole regions with salmonella and listeria. Of course, even without hurricanes, animal manure is the main source of such bacteria in plant foods.

2.3 Water and Land Use

No food system can overcome the laws of thermodynamics. Feeding plants to an animal will produce fewer calories for humans than eating plants directly (this is called 'trophic levels'). The ratio varies from 3% efficiency for cattle, to 9% for pigs, to 13% for chickens, to 17% for dairy and eggs.
This inefficiency makes the previously mentioned 77% of arable land used for animal agriculture very troubling. 10% of the world was food insecure in 2020, up from 8.4% in 2019. Humanity is still experiencing population growth, so food insecurity will get worse in the future. We need to replace animal food with plant food just to stop people in the global periphery starving to death. Remember that food is a global commodity, so increased demand for soya-fed beef cattle in Brazil means increased costs around the world for beef, soya, and things that could have been grown in place of the soya.
Water resources are already becoming strained, even in developed countries like America, Britain and Germany. Like in the Soviet Union with the Aral Sea, America is actually causing some lakes, like the Great Salt Lake in Utah, to dry up due to agricultural irrigation. Rather than for cotton as with the Aral Sea, this is mostly for the sake of animal feed. 86.6% of irrigated water in Utah goes to alfalfa, pasture land and grass hay. A cloud of toxic dust kicked up from the dry lake bed will eventually envelop Salt Lake City, for the sake of an industry only worth 3% of the state's GDP.
Comparisons of water footprints for animal vs plant foods are gobsmacking, because pastures and feed crops take up so much space. As water resources become more scarce in the future thanks to the depletion of acquifers and changing weather patterns, human civilisation will have to choose either to use its water to produce more efficient plant foods, or eat a luxury that causes needless suffering for all involved.

3. Health

3.1 Carcinogens, Cholesterol and Saturated Fat in Animal Products

In 2015, the World Health Organisation reviewed 800 studies, and concluded that red meat is a Group 2A carcinogen, while processed meat is a Group 1 carcinogen. The cause is things like salts and other preservatives in processed meat, and the heme iron present in all meat, which causes oxidative stress.
Cholesterol and saturated fat from animal foods have been known to cause heart disease for half a century, dating back to studies like the LA Veterans Trial in 1969, and the North Karelia Project in 1972. Heart disease killed 700,000 Americans in 2020, almost twice as many as died from Covid-19.

3.2 Antimicrobial Resistance

A majority of antimicrobials sold globally are fed to livestock, with America using about 80% for this purpose. The UN has declared antimicrobial resistance to be one of the 10 top global public health threats facing humanity, and a major cause of AMR is overuse.

3.3 Zoonotic Spillover

Intensive animal farming has been called a "petri dish for pathogens" with potential to "spark the next pandemic". Pathogens that have recently spilled over from animals to humans include:
1996 and 2013 avian flu
2003 SARS
2009 swine flu
2019 Covid-19,

3.4 Worker Health

Killing a neverending stream of terrified, screaming sentient beings is the stuff of nightmares. After their first kill, slaugherhouse workers report suffering from increased levels of: trauma, intense shock, paranoia, fear, anxiety, guilt, and shame.
Besides wrecking their mental health, it can also wreck their physical health. In 2007, 24 slaugherhouse workers in Minnesota began suffering from an autoimmune disease caused by inhaling aerosolised pig brains. Pig brains were lodged in the workers' lungs. Because pig and human brains are so similar, the workers' immune systems began attacking their own nervous systems.
The psychopathic animal agriculture industry is not beyond exploiting children and even slaves.

2023.03.22 07:17 Regular-Lead5793 The Cross

Torture stake
The rendering of the Greek word stau·rosʹ, meaning an upright stake or pole, such as the one on which Jesus was executed. There is no evidence that the Greek word meant a cross, such as the pagans used as a religious symbol for many centuries before Christ. “Torture stake” conveys the full intent of the original word, since the word stau·rosʹ is also used to indicate the torture, suffering, and shame that Jesus’ followers would face. (Mt 16:24; Heb 12:2)
Stake
An upright pole to which a victim was fastened. It was used in some nations for execution and/or for exposing a dead body as a warning to others or for public humiliation. The Assyrians, noted for their savage warfare, impaled captives by hanging their bodies atop pointed stakes that had been run up through the abdomen into the chest cavity of the victim. In Jewish law, though, those guilty of such heinous crimes as blasphemy or idolatry were first killed by stoning or by some other method, and then their dead bodies were hung on stakes, or trees, as warning examples to others. (De 21:22, 23; 2Sa 21:6, 9) The Romans sometimes simply tied a victim to the stake, in which case he might live for several days before he died from pain, thirst, hunger, and exposure to the sun. In other cases, such as the execution of Jesus, they nailed the hands and feet of the accused to a stake. (Lu 24:20; Joh 19:14-16; 20:25; Ac 2:23, 36)

2023.03.22 07:15 Wisson_Robotics Wisson Robotics launches Nimbo™ Series pliable robotic manipulators to empower service industries

Wisson Robotics launches Nimbo™ Series pliable robotic manipulators to empower service industries
Wisson robotics, founded in 2019, launches the Nimbo™ pliable robotic manipulator series to the global market, based on the patented Pliabot® technology resulting from over a decade of scientific research, offering unparalleled combinations of compliance, dexterity, lightweight, and safety, providing scenario-oriented solutions to robotic services across a variety of applications. The most iconic innovations include the use of patented Pliabot® compliant muscles as motion generation units and compact high-speed pneumatic controllers, in contrast to electric motors in conventional robotic manipulators.
From the emergence of robotic manipulators in the late 20th century, the primary criteria of optimization had always leaned towards industrial manufacturing, where industrial robotic manipulators were expected to transcend human physical capabilities in terms of speed, accuracy, and payload. Moving from safety cages in factories towards people-dense natural environments of the mass population, strength and power quickly became less applicable, replaced by new core challenges such as interaction safety, environmental adaptability, and energy efficiency. The emerging Cobot (collaborative robots) technology was targeting such performance indices, but was fundamentally constrained by the same motor-joint paradigm inherited from industrial robots, resulting in even higher reliance in precision manufacturing and high-frequency advanced control algorithms, both hindering its cost-effectiveness, fail-safety, and adaptability to random changes.
Powered by Pliabot®, a fundamental actuator-level innovation
In recent years, multiple drivers have pushed the service robots industry to surpass manufacturing industrial robots in terms of annual growth, ranging from global population aging and general labor shortage, to consumer upgrading and AI-availability. This calls for new, intelligent robots to be able to work interactively in natural human-dense environments safely, efficiently, effectively, and economically. Such robots are required to have manipulators that are dexterous, flexible, adaptive to physical interactions, as well as having a high payload-to-weight ratio.
Wisson offers the patented Pliabot® technology, aiming at the above emerging needs of service robot applications, based on over a decade of scientific research. The core of the Pliabot® technology is the deployable structure pliable robotic muscles made from compliant materials, driven by pneumatics or hydraulics by the proprietary integrated motion control platform SlimDrive™, paired with intelligent algorithmic platform SlimEngine™. Together they form a groundbreaking paradigm of using compliant materials and fluidic drive to make safe, flexible, dexterous, lightweight, but strong and accurate robotic manipulators specifically for service robots.
Four primary advantages enabling a new horizon of service robot applications
Wisson’s Nimbo™ pliable manipulator series, with mechanistically guaranteed fail-safety and impact safety, human-arm level payload-to-weight ratio and accuracy, pave the way to a brand new horizon of wider applications for service robots. The primary performance advantages include:
Dexterity and flexibility. The Wisson Nimbo™ series manipulators were developed on the proprietary Pliabot® platform technology, following a completely distinctive core structure from conventional motor-based robotic manipulators. Instead of having multiple electric motors as joints, a series (often dozens) of flexible Pliabot® muscles form a network, parallelly into joints and sequentially into a manipulator. Kinematic redundancy could easily be achieved by stacking multiple joints each containing a corresponding number of muscles, allowing the manipulator to posture infinitely in space to reach a particular target of operation. With the muscles being compliant, the pneumatic actuation medium being compressible, and the kinematics being easily redundant, the resulting Nimbo™ pliable manipulators could have substantial dexterity equivalent to 6-to-7-DoF or above in rigid motor-driven manipulators, as well as inherent flexibility and impact safety even with controller failure or power off.
Ultra-high payload-to-weight ratio. Payload-to-weight ratio reflects a robot’s workload capacity per unit weight. Due to material-level and structure-level innovations, Wisson Nimbo™ series pliable manipulators could achieve over 1:1 payload-to-weight ratio, and topping at 3:1 maximum ratio at certain postures, approaching and surpassing human-arm capacities. Compared with Cobots (0.2-0.3:1 typically) and industrial manipulators (0.1:1 typically), the Nimbo™ pliable manipulators have substantially lower inertial but remarkably higher strength per unit weight, making them safe and energy-efficient by manifolds, ideal for mobile applications and close-proximity deployments with humans.
Interaction safety. The core to service robots is interaction. Interacting with people, environments, handling objects, performing inspections, cleaning various surfaces, service robots are destined to maneuver through complex environments handling random situations while frequently performing physical interactions. This calls for unconditional, guaranteed interaction safety under all circumstances. With the patented Pliabot® core technology, Wisson Nimbo™ pliable manipulators are based on flexible muscle structures paired with SlimEngine™ tri-loop advanced feedback control, ensuring timely and effective adaptation to both routine task interactions and unpredicted environmental incidences; and under the worst circumstances such as power down or mechanistic failure, the natural compliance from both the material and structure could ensure bottom-line safety to avoid damages to both the environment and the robot.
Outstanding environmental resistance. With virtually no seams and gaps typically seen in conventional motor-based rigid robots, Wisson Nimbo™ pliable manipulators could achieve a list of remarkable characteristics of high durability and environmental resistance: waterproof, moisture-proof, dustproof, radiation enhancement, corrosion resistance, ultra-high voltage resistance, etc. Designed to endure hash environments, Nimbo™ could be deployed outdoors for long-term operations. It could be particularly suitable for extreme environments such as dust, muddy, oil, electromagnetic radiation, hydraulic pressure, etc.
The Nimbo™ manipulator enables a series of scenario-oriented end-products
Based on market research and industrial customer analysis, Wisson has developed the Nimbo™ series pliable manipulators with three distinctive lines, the KN600, KN800, and KN1000, and derived several service robot end-products based on them towards a variety of application scenarios, including the Orion series flying pliable robots for low-altitude inspection and maintenance operations, the Draco series ground operation pliable robots for industrial inspection and maintenance operations, and the Centaur series dual-arm ground manipulation pliable robots for precise manipulation operations in disaster relief and other public service applications.

Nimbo™ pliable manipulators, small size, high strength
Wisson Nimbo™ series pliable manipulators were developed based on the proprietary pliable core technologies, the Pliabot® high-performance bionic muscles, the SlimDrive™ high-precision pneumatic controllers, and the SlimEngine™ flexible intelligent algorithm platform. Thanks to the fundamental breakthroughs offered by those platform technologies, the Nimbo™ series pliable manipulators could achieve substantial performance advantages, keeping well balances between strength and weight, compliance and precision, while having outstanding environmental resistance. The series were further optimized into three distinctive product lines, the KN600, KN800, and KN1000 manipulators, each with unique kinematic structure and configurations, aiming towards different end-product application scenarios:
KN600 Series lightweight pliable robotic manipulators: 20 pliable muscles, 7 pliable DOFs, designed for lightweight general mobile operations and humanoid service operations with omnidirectional flexible installation;
KN800 Series retractable pliable robotic manipulators: 21 pliable muscles, 3 pliable DOFs, designed for aerial and hoisting operations, with 360 degrees flexibility and up to 15kg maximum payload, with a large expansion ratio for working in tight spaces, matching with various UAV platforms, hoisting platforms, and hanging rail robot platforms;
KN1000 Series pliable-rigid hybrid robotic manipulators: 8 muscles and 3 motors, enabling 3 pliable DOFs and 3 conventional rigid DOFs, designed for flexible operations with large workspace and omni-directional installation, achieving large-range, high-precision, high-speed flexible motion. The K1000 series are suitable for various mobile or stationary platforms for inspection, operation, flexible handling and logistics applications.
Orion flying arms, a revolutionary solution to precision aerial manipulation
Current mainstream UAV applications including aerial observation, geographic terrain mapping and agricultural operations assistance, do not require frequent physical contact or interaction between the UAV and the environment, focus on observation rather than intervention. However, with the expansion of customers' operational demands from observational operations to interventional or precision manipulations, UAVs need to be equipped with robotic manipulators for dexterous operations that are lightweight, strong, dexterous, and power efficient.
The Wisson Orion series flying pliable robots are comprised of retractable pliable manipulators mounted underneath commercial drones, forming complete solutions for remote aerial operations with direct physical interactions. This series offer unique characteristics of retractability, inherent flexibility, large payload with lightweight, remarkable environmental resistance, meanwhile, it is easy to mount with the UAV with diversified interfaces, and can be equipped with vision, olfaction, audition and other sensors as needed for maintenance, object transfer, and precision manipulation applications in petrochemical plants, energy and chemical industry, disaster rescue and other commercial or public services.
Draco ground operation platform, the omnipotent inspection robot
The Wisson Draco series includes three models designed based on Wisson proprietary MP series mobile platform and Pliabot technology, each with different working range and functions. The robot series have excellent mobility and autonomous navigation covering most indoor and outdoor scenarios due to the compact design. The platform can flexibly mount a variety of payloads including PTZ camera, pliable robotic manipulators, detection sensors and other modules. It can perform low, medium, high and multi-angle three-dimensional inspections based on the inspection equipment, and can manipulate various objects such as doors, press buttons, and change positions for data reading and testing. In addition, it can be flexibly equipped with different types of manipulator modules and lifting modules according to actual scenarios and operating requirements. The maximum operating height can reach 2.5m. It is widely used in industrial inspections, fire-fighting, energy O&M and other ground operations.

2023.03.22 05:31 sophia-avon Nvidia released a new "nuclear bomb", Google chatbot is also coming, computing power stocks again on the tide of halt

On March 21, arithmetic stocks (data centers, AI chips, CPO, etc.) were again sharply stronger.

In news, overnight Nvidia released a dedicated GPU for ChatGPT, claiming to increase inference speed by 10x.

Also in recent days, ChatGPT users around the world have been finding error warnings popping up on the site due to a large increase in access, and even privileged Plus accounts have not been spared.

The latest research report of Anxin Securities has made an inference on GPT-4 arithmetic power demand: GPT-4 has increased its inferred arithmetic power demand to more than ten times due to the increase in complexity and the addition of image recognition function.

NVIDIA Releases ChatGPT Dedicated GPU, Increases Inference Speed by 10 Times

On March 21, Beijing time, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang announced the inference GPU (graphics processor) H100 NVL designed for ChatGPT at the 2023 GTC developer conference, which stitches together two of Nvidia's H100 GPUs to deploy large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, according to Punch News.

The only current GPU that can actually handle ChatGPT is the NVIDIA HGX A100, and compared to the former A100, a standard server with four pairs of H100s and dual NVLINKs can now be 10 times faster, reducing the cost of processing large language models by an order of magnitude, said Jen-Hsun Huang.

In addition to custom chips, NVIDIA also released cuLitho, a breakthrough lithography computational library. NVIDIA announced that after years of collaboration with TSMC, ASML, Synopsys and other companies, it has launched a new computational lithography application that greatly reduces the time and energy consumed by chip foundries in this process, ready for the arrival of 2nm and more advanced processes.

In addition, NVIDIA has launched DGX Cloud, an AI supercomputing service, NVIDIA AI Foundations, a cloud service that accelerates enterprises to create big models and generative AI, and the world's first GPU-accelerated quantum computing system in partnership with Quantum Machines.

Jen-Hsun Huang said that the AI industry is in an "iPhone moment" - startups are racing to build disruptive business models, and industry giants are looking for ways to respond, and are making bold statements - "NVIDIA is about AI. -Nvidia is to be the TSMC of AI!

On the domestic front, Jen-Hsun Huang said that in China, it has special customized Ampere and Hopper chips, these will be provided through Chinese cloud providers, such as Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu, these companies to provide the ability to land, fully believe that they have the ability to provide top-notch system services, for Chinese startups will certainly have the opportunity to develop their own large language models.

Google chatbots are also coming, AI big models lead the arithmetic layer for long-term benefits

On Tuesday, March 21, US time, US tech giant Google Inc. launched a beta version of its AI chatbot Bard in a bid to compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Bard, which will run separately from its Google search engine, currently generates answers in English only and currently offers access to users on a waitlist on a first-come, first-served basis. Google says over time, Bard will be adapted to more languages as well as rolled out to more regions.

Axiom Securities pointed out that ChatGPT, GPT4.0, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Wenxin Yiyin and Google Bird were released one after another, and the AI big model represented by ChatGPT and its initial application "stirred up a thousand layers of waves".

It said that with the release of multimodal large model GPT-4, the pace of applications based on text, pictures and other vertical scenarios is expected to accelerate from 1 to 10, similar to the blossoming of various types of APPs in the mobile Internet era, and the competition pattern will gradually intensify. And analogous to the late 19th century "gold rush" in the western United States, a large demand for shovels, jeans, it believes that the GPGPU as the representative of the arithmetic infrastructure as a large model of AI base will benefit long-term stability.

GPT4 arithmetic power demand increased to more than ten times

The latest research report of Anxin Securities made an inference on GPT-4 arithmetic demand and future trends: GPT-4's speculative arithmetic demand increased to more than ten times due to the increase of complexity and the addition of picture recognition function.

It said that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman pointed out in a public interview that GTP-4 has 20 times more parameters than GTP-3 and requires 10 times more computation than GTP-3; GTP-5 is released at the end of 2024 to 2025, which has 100 times more parameters than GTP-3 and requires 200-400 times more computation than GTP-3.

The bottleneck of arithmetic power is not in the absolute size of the arithmetic power, but in the cost of achieving that arithmetic power. From the perspective of cost, Guoxin Securities has also made a calculation on this, which according to the public data of GPT-4, the cost of asking a question per 1000 tokens is $0.03 and the cost of completing an answer per 1000 tokens is $0.06 under the context length of 8K; under the context length of 32K context length, the question cost per 1000 tokens is $0.06, and the answer completion cost per 1000 tokens is $0.12.

It says that this arithmetic cost rises higher (50%-200% increase in input cost and 200%-500% increase in output cost) compared to the cost of GPT-3 (about $0.02 per 1000 tokens), and is even more significant compared to the cost of GPT-3.5-turbo, with a 14-29 times increase in input cost and a 29-59 times increase in output cost. The increase is 29-59 times.

In addition, the expansion of the AI server market has simultaneously driven up the demand for high-speed NICs, HBM, DRAM, NAND, PCBs, etc. At the same time, the technology around the solution of GPU "power wall, memory wall" in the large computing power scenario continues to upgrade, such as storage and computing integration, silicon light / CPO industrialization process is expected to speed up; advanced process chip evolution in the existing Chiplet and other technical paths will also benefit; Risk-V due to open source and free, developer freedom, high degree of autonomy, high control, and the risk of the development of the chip. The advantages of Risk-V, such as free open source, high developer freedom, high degree of independent control, and more adaptable to AIoT processor architecture requirements, will drive the number of participating companies around AI scenarios.

Uterine fibroids are a common condition that affects many women during their reproductive years. These non-cancerous growths can cause a range of symptoms, including pelvic pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, and frequent urination.
While medical treatments such as surgery and medication can be effective, many women are turning to natural remedies to ease their symptoms and avoid invasive procedures. In this article, we'll explore some of the best natural remedies for uterine fibroid pelvic pain. From dietary changes to herbal supplements, there are plenty of options to try.
https://preview.redd.it/d40mzup0x7pa1.png?width=700&format=png&auto=webp&s=0be5ce2604f9d2f62f339219fd28a2ef6fed9d27
Whether you're looking for a way to reduce your pain or simply want to improve your overall health and well-being, these natural remedies are definitely worth considering.
So, let's dive in and discover how you can say goodbye to uterine fibroids pelvic pain for good!

Understanding Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids are benign tumors that grow in or on the uterus. They can vary in size from tiny seedlings that are undetectable by the human eye to bulky masses that can enlarge the uterus. These growths are usually not cancerous, but they can cause a range of symptoms that affect a woman's quality of life. The exact cause of uterine fibroids is still unknown, though researchers believe that genetics, hormones, and other factors may play a role.

Symptoms of Uterine Fibroids

The symptoms of uterine fibroids can vary depending on the size and location of the growth. Some women may experience no symptoms at all, while others may have severe pain and discomfort. Common symptoms of uterine fibroids include:
  • Pelvic pain and pressure
  • Heavy menstrual bleeding
  • Painful periods
  • Frequent urination
  • Constipation
  • Back pain
  • Painful intercourse
  • Infertility
If you're experiencing any of these symptoms, it's important to speak with your healthcare provider to determine the cause and discuss treatment options.

Causes of Uterine Fibroids

The exact cause of uterine fibroids is not fully understood, but several factors may increase a woman's risk of developing them. These include:
  1. Age - fibroids are more common in women between the ages of 30 and 50
  2. Family history - having a family member with fibroids increases your risk
  3. Hormones - estrogen and progesterone may promote the growth of fibroids
  4. Obesity - being overweight or obese can increase your risk
  5. Race - African American women are more likely to develop fibroids than women of other races
While you can't control some of these risk factors, making healthy lifestyle choices such as maintaining a healthy weight and managing stress may help reduce your risk.

Conventional Treatment Options for Uterine Fibroids

There are several conventional treatment options for uterine fibroids, including medication and surgery. These treatments can be effective, but they also come with risks and potential side effects.
  1. Medication - hormonal medications such as birth control pills or gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRH agonists) can help shrink fibroids and reduce symptoms, but they may also cause side effects such as hot flashes, mood changes, and decreased bone density.
  2. Surgery - if medication is not effective, surgery may be necessary to remove the fibroids or the entire uterus. This can be done through a variety of procedures, such as myomectomy or hysterectomy, but they all come with risks such as bleeding, infection, and damage to surrounding organs.
While these treatments can be effective, many women are looking for natural remedies to ease their symptoms and avoid invasive procedures. Let's explore some of the best natural remedies for uterine fibroids pelvic pain.

2023.03.22 05:11 PurpleSpaceSurfer Coming out with a BANG! The Beatles' Please Please Me at 60

https://preview.redd.it/eq7p9akyt7pa1.jpg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e4f3c283f990a692d2ee625074866685cf3301a
“1… 2… 3… 4!”
With a simple, yet energetic count-in, The Beatles were on their way to leaving an indelible mark on popular culture, and it all started here. Released 60 years ago today, Please Please Me marked the first album in The Beatles’ discography. A brisk, lively pop-rock confection lasting just over half-an-hour, over a half century later it remains a stunning document of the unbridled joy of the early Beatles.

Background

The Beatles got their start as a skiffle band in the late 1950s in Liverpool. By 1961, after many personnel changes, their lineup consisted of John Lennon on rhythm guitar, Paul McCartney on bass, George Harrison on lead guitar and Pete Best on drums. The group had cut their teeth playing grueling sets in Hamburg nightclubs, often times playing over 8 hours a day and taking uppers to get through the shows. Their repertoire largely consisted of cover songs, though a fledgling songwriting partnership between Lennon and McCartney contributed a few numbers here and there to the proceedings. In the fall of 1961, a rock and roll cover of “My Bonnie” with the Beatles playing backup to Tony Sheridan was released in Germany. Shortly thereafter, the Beatles met Brian Epstein, who would become their manager. He cleaned up their image and sought out a recording contract for them. A New Years Day 1962 audition for Decca Records would prove fruitless (Decca executives felt that "guitar groups are on the way out" and that "the Beatles have no future in show business"). Undeterred, Brian continued searching, eventually inking the band a deal with EMI Records in May.

The Lead-up to Please Please Me

EMI placed the group on Parlophone Records, which was run by George Martin at the time. Martin was impressed by the group’s charisma and personalities, but was doubtful of their ability to write hit songs. An initial recording session on June 6th, 1962 proved futile. Martin was especially unimpressed with the drumming ability of Pete Best. Insistent on the use of a session drummer, The Beatles used this as an opportunity to drop Best in favor of fellow Liverpudlian Ringo Starr. The next session on September 4th 1962, proved much more successful. With Ringo on the drums, the first version of “Love Me Do” was recorded (this was the version used on the 45). A week later, the band re-recorded “Love Me Do” (this was the album version) with session drummer Andy White, as well as “P.S. I Love You”, which served as the B-side to the “Love Me Do” 45.
Despite Martin’s skepticism, “Love Me Do” was a hit, peaking at #17 on the British charts by November of 1962. Convinced of the Beatles’ hitmaking ability, Martin met with the group and proposed the recording of a full album. This was an alien concept to The Beatles, since the LP market was largely driven by adults rather than teens at the time. On November 26th, The Beatles finished up the songs “Please Please Me” and “Ask Me Why” to serve as another single. Upon release on January 11th, 1963, “Please Please Me” became the Beatles’ first #1 hit on the NME and Melody Maker charts (Retroactively, the Record Retailer chart became the basis of the UK Singles Chart. Here, the song peaked at #2).
Originally, Martin wanted to record a live album of The Beatles at their resident venue, the Cavern Club. However, Martin quickly realized the acoustics of the club were insufficient for the recording of an LP. Instead, Martin came up with the idea of recording 10 additional songs to complement the 4 songs already released. Upon asking for potential album names, Paul McCartney suggested Off the Beatle Track.

The Recording of the Album

February 11th, 1963 was to be what was later referred to as “the 585 most productive minutes in the history of recorded music”. Essentially, Martin wanted the album to reflect the group’s stage show. During a gap of their first national tour, the Beatles arrived that morning with John Lennon suffering from a bad cold and attempting to rectify it with a large amount of cough drops (been there, done that).
For the morning recording session, the group started off with recording “There’s a Place” and “Seventeen” (this would later become “I Saw Her Standing There”). Rehearsing through lunch, the afternoon session produced “A Taste of Honey”, “Do You Want to Know a Secret”, and “Misery”. The evening session was produced covers of “Anna (Go to Him), “Boys”, “Chains” and “Baby It’s You”. An early version of “Hold Me Tight” was also recorded during this session, but it was not used and the song was later rerecorded for The Beatles’ sophomore album, With the Beatles.
At 10 PM, shortly before the studios were set to close for the day, the group launched into a cover of “Twist and Shout”. This was saved for last as Martin feared the song would’ve destroyed Lennon’s voice for the day. The song was nailed in one take, which prompted Martin to say, “We've been recording all day but the longer we go on the better they get." The Beatles attended a full tape playback of the album that night, and left happy with the results.
A week later, on February 20th, George Martin overdubbed piano on “Misery” and celesta on “Baby It’s You”. The Beatles were not present. Settling on the name Please Please Me (Off the Beatle Track was later used for Martin’s orchestral album of Beatles songs), the cover art was taken of the group looking down over the stairwell inside EMI’s London headquarters. This shot was later recreated in 1969 for the Get Back album, but not used when it eventually was as Let it Be in 1970. The 1969 photograph was later used for the Beatles’ “Blue Album”.

The Songs

Kicking things off with a bang is “I Saw Her Standing There”. Paul’s count-in was actually taken from Take 9 and spliced onto Take 1 of the song itself. George Martin left the count-in to simulate the effect of a live album. This song was written primarily by Paul, with John contributing a few lyrics, most notably “Well you know, what I mean.” It should be noted that on Please Please Me, the songwriting credits read McCartney-Lennon rather than the more familiar Lennon-McCartney
Next up, is “Misery”. Foreshadowing some of the Beatles’ later work, “Misery” is a portrait of self-pity. The song was actually originally composed with Helen Shapiro in mind (with whom The Beatles performed with on a national UK tour). When it was deemed unsuitable for Shapiro, Kenny Lynch, who was on the same tour, released the song as a single, making this the first Beatles song covered by another artist. Lennon later claimed he had a bit more input on this tune, was McCartney claimed it was a 50-50 collaboration.
We then make our way to the first cover song on the album Arthur Alexander’s “Anna (Go to Him)”. A personal favorite of John Lennon, his cold-stricken vocals add a tinge of pain to this song, making it a personal highlight for me. The Arthur Alexander original would later play a role in the Season 5 episode of Married… with Children, “Oldies But Young 'Uns”.
The next cover song is “Chains”. Written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, this song was originally recorded by girl group The Cookies, and immediately became a popular cover song among bands in Liverpool. The Beatles version features George Harrison on lead vocals, the first time many a Beatles fan heard Harrison singing lead on a commercially released song.
The final cover song on Side One of the LP is “Boys”. Originally released by The Shirelles, “Boys” had long been known as The Beatles’ “drummer song”, with Pete Best covering it on stage prior to Ringo entering the band. Ringo also performed the song as a member of Rory Storm and the Hurricanes prior to joining The Beatles. Despite some pronoun changes from the Shirlles’ original, the song retains a large amount of homoerotic undertones.
“Ask Me Why”, primarily written by Lennon in the style of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, is up next. Close listening can reveal the deteriorating state of Lennon’s voice during the marathon session. “Ask Me Why” was also included as the B-side to “Please Please Me”.
Rounding out the first side of the LP is “Please Please Me”. Originally conceived by John Lennon as a slow bluesy song in the style of Roy Orbison, it took much convincing and rerecording for Martin to release the song as a single. Martin originally felt the song was “dreary” and too slow. Martin wanted to release “How Do You Do It?” as a single for The Beatles. However, the group stood their ground as they only wanted to release original material as singles. “How Do You Do It?” later became a number one hit for Gerry & The Pacemakers. The arrangement for “Please Please Me” was radically altered into the version we know today, and 18 takes of it were recorded before George Martin released the song as a single to major success.
Opening up Side Two of the album is “Love Me Do”. McCartney wrote the bulk of the song, with Lennon writing the bridge. The version on the album was the take with session drummer Andy White playing drums and Ringo on tambourine. The original single version with Ringo on drums was later reissued on Past Masters in 1988. “Love Me Do” was released as a single in the US in 1964 and became a #1 hit.
“P.S. I Love You”, a McCartney composition, was actually produced by Ron Richards in George Martin’s absence (though Martin retained production credit). Like the aforementioned “Love Me Do”, this song features Ringo on maracas with Andy White on drums. Richards was insistent that “P.S. I Love You” had to be the B-side, due to it sharing a name with a 1934 song co-written by Johnny Mercer (who later wrote the lyrics to “Moon River” and “Days of Wine and Roses”).
“Baby It’s You”, another Shirelles cover (with music by the legendary Burt Bacharach), follows. This one features Lennon on lead vocals. The song had been part of the Beatles stage act since 1961, their version differing from the Shirelles’ by repeating the second verse rather than the first. Interestingly enough, a 1969 cover of the song by the band Smith became the highest charting version of the song in the United States (Smith’s version peaked at #5, compared to the Shirelles’ version peaking at #8).
“Do You Want to Know a Secret”, an original song with Harrison on lead vocals is next. Lennon claimed the song as entirely his own, while McCartney later claimed it was a 50-50 collaboration explicitly for George to sing. Lennon was inspired by “I’m Wishing” from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which his mother Julia sang for him as a child. The song was released as a single in the United States in 1964, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and becoming the highest charting Beatles song with a Harrison vocal until “Something” topped the charts in 1969.
McCartney’s cover of the pop standard “A Taste of Honey” follows. This song was originally an instrumental track written for the 1960 Broadway version of the 1958 British play A Taste of Honey (which was later adapted to film in 1961). The first vocal version of the song appeared in 1961 by Billy Dee Williams (Yes, Lando from Star Wars. He appeared in the original Broadway production of the play). Lenny Welch’s 1962 rendition of the song proved to be a big hit, as well as the basis of the Beatles’ version. Lennon allegedly hated the song, going as far to sing “A Waste of Money” for the backing vocals in concert.
The final original song on the album is “There’s a Place”. While Lennon claimed to write the song himself in the Motown style, McCartney claimed the song to be a collaborative effort. He noted the song’s title phrase originated from “Somewhere” from the soundtrack album to West Side Story, as he owned a copy of the album. Regardless, the song has been praised for its introspective lyrics and depth not commonly found in contemporaneous pop songs.
The grand finale, and arguably the most famous of all the Beatles’ covers, is their raucous, electric take on the Isley Brothers’ rendition of “Twist and Shout”. As previously mentioned, Lennon used every last bit of his voice that day shredding through the song. He initially felt ashamed of the performance, feeling his performance was subpar. The song was released as a single in the United States in 1964, peaking at #2 behind the band’s own “Can’t Buy Me Love”. It was the only million selling Beatles single to be a cover song, and was famously used in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off in 1986.

Release and Impact

The album was released on March 22, 1963. The album had reached the top of the UK charts by May of 1963 and remained there for 30 weeks until being replaced by the group’s second album, With the Beatles. Please Please Me was also the first non-soundtrack album to spend more than a year consecutively within the top 10 of the UK album charts (with 62 consecutive weeks in the Top 10). This was also a record for a debut album until April 2013 when Emeli Sande’s Our Version of Events achieved a 63rd consecutive week in the Top Ten. Please Please Me’s success was unprecedented for a pop album, as the UK charts at the time largely consisted of film soundtracks and easily listening albums. The success of the album has been attributed to the packaging, particularly it’s cover art and linear notes.
Capitol Records, the American subsidiary of EMI, passed on the opportunity to release the Beatles’ material, feeling the music would have limited appeal to American listeners. Instead, Vee-Jay records attempted to bring The Beatles to America. However, the first two American singles (“Please Please Me” and “From Me to You”), failed spectacularly. Vee-Jay lost interest in The Beatles, not releasing a truncated 12-track version of the album until Beatlemania hit in early 1964 as Introducing… The Beatles (more information on that release can be found here). Capitol included “I Saw Her Standing There” on their first Beatles album Meet The Beatles! (It also served as the B-side to the American version of “I Want to Hold Your Hand”) After Vee-Jay’s license to release Beatles material expired, Capitol released The Early Beatles in March 1965, which consisted of 11 out of the 14 tracks from Please Please Me (along with “I Saw Her Standing There”, it excised “Misery” and “There’s a Place”. The latter two songs were released for the first time by Capitol in 1980 on the Rarities album). The first official American release of Please Please Me occurred in 1987 with the standardization of The Beatles’ catalog on CD.
In the decades since it’s release, Please Please Me remains highly regarded as not only one of the best debut albums of all time, but one of the greatest albums of all time period. In 2012, it was voted 39th on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. NME, Rolling Stone and Uncut have all named it one of the best debut albums of all time. For the 50th anniversary of the album in 2013, modern artists celebrated the album by re-recording it in one day. Stereophonics recorded the cover of “I Saw Her Standing There”. The rerecorded album was broadcast on BBC Radio 2.

Discussion

  1. What is your favorite original song on Please Please Me? Favorite cover?
  2. How would you rank the album within the Beatles’ discography?
  3. Much has been said about how joyous the album feels. Do you feel it captured the energy of The Beatles’ early performances well?
  4. How does this album compare with other pop albums from the same time?

No experience necessary for the laborer custodial or maintenance mechanic positions. It helps on the interview but you can surely think of maintenance related experience to relay for an interview. Based on fixing things around your house, the car etc. Always mention working safely.

Pro tip: You can apply for any job that has an exam opening and the test is administered local to yourself. Make sure you're serious and score decently; you can turn down the job offer. Keep a physical copy of your exam score, I believe they are good for two years.
The reason is: These job postings can be posted externally at capacity for testing, meaning they will not allow you to take the exam if they have enough qualified applicants. However, if you have a test score on the books, you are a qualified applicant.

Explanation of MVO/TTO to save time:
MVO= CDL B Can only drive box trucks on public roads, can drive anything for moves on postal property.
TTO= CDL A Can drive anything.

USPS provides the training. (Maintenance jobs at least. TTO and management...GOOD LUCK)

You don't have to be crazy to work here. We'll train you. Everything but proper email usage.

Rezoning application for new mixed-use building in Niagara Falls
A developer has applied to rezone a large lot at 5687 Ferry St. and 5660 Spring St. in Niagara Falls to build a new eight-storey building with 77 residential units and three commercial units. The lot is currently zoned for general commercial and parking uses. The city council will decide on the rezoning application at its meeting on March 21. The proposed building is located within the Drummondville Node and the Clifton Hill Subdistrict of the Central Tourism District in the city’s Official Plan.

Armenia seeks to take Azerbaijan’s non-compliance with ICJ ruling to UN Security Council

“Unfortunately, we are facing the reality that Azerbaijan is simply ignoring the ruling, not only ignoring, but also trying to distort the content of the ruling on all official levels. This was recently seen in the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister’s letter addressed to the UN Secretary General, to which our minister’s letter has been submitted as a response,” he said.
Kirakosyan said that article 94 of the UN Charter provides for a certain narrow description pertaining to the rulings. But attempts in the past to bring rulings on provisional measures before the UN Security Council have failed. The cases related to a permanent member, who exercised its right to veto and the issue didn’t make it to final debates.
“But in our case I think we should work in that direction. I know that our colleagues at the foreign ministry are working in that direction. It is highly important for the matter to enter the agenda at the UN Security Council. And we must maximally utilize all diplomatic channels to ensure a favorable discussion of the issue,” Kirakosyan said.
Taking the issue to the UNSC has two perspectives, he added. First is the formal point of view, there’s article 94 of the charter which gives such an authority to the Security Council. The second logic is chapter 7 of the UN Charter – its mandate for ensuring international peace and security.
“The idea is that the non-fulfillment of this ruling creates risks for international peace and security. So we have the chance to raise this issue at the Security Council at least under two logics. It is obvious that the non-compliance with the court’s decision, that is the continuation of the blockade, creates very serious risks for international security.”

Baku openly shows that it rejects negotiations with Artsakh. Artsakh MFA

“For 100 days now, Azerbaijan has been subjecting Artsakh to an illegal blockade, the ultimate goal of which is to destroy the Artsakh people as such by expelling them from their historical homeland. Accompanying their actions with the use of force and acts of terror, Azerbaijan is pursuing a consistent policy aimed at forcibly suppressing the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination. At the same time, the Azerbaijani authorities openly demonstrate their rejection of negotiations as a means of finding a solution to any issue. It should be noted that for several decades, Azerbaijan has been striving to get rid of the people of Artsakh and resolve the Azerbaijan-Karabakh conflict by force. The first victims of such a criminal policy were, in particular, the Armenians who lived in Azerbaijan during the Soviet period. The deportation of Armenians from Azerbaijan organized by the local authorities in 1988-1990 and accompanied by massacres, torture and pogroms, marked the beginning of a new stage in Azerbaijan's policy of persecuting Armenians. As early as in 1991, the Azerbaijani authorities continued the deportation of Armenians from Artsakh, which, in various forms and manifestations, has continued to this day.
We recall that according to international law and international practice, the denial and forceful suppression of the right to self-determination, accompanied by massive human rights violations, as well as the rejection of negotiations as a means of resolving conflict, are sufficient grounds for recognizing the right of a people to establish an independent state”.

US Department of State refers to the atrocities of the Azerbaijani armed forces during the aggression against Armenia

The US Department of State published a report on the human rights situation in Armenia, in which it also referred in detail to the atrocities committed by Azerbaijani servicemen during the September aggression against Armenia.
The report mentions that there are credible reports that during the September conflict, Azerbaijani forces committed unlawful killings involving summary executions of Armenian soldiers in Azerbaijani custody.
It is noted that the International Committee of the Red Cross studied the cases of missing persons as a result of the conflict with Azerbaijan. It is noted that after the 2020 war, 203 people (including 20 civilians) are considered missing, and 3 military personnel are considered missing as a result of the September 13-14 conflict.
The US State Department also addresses the illegal execution of 7 Armenian servicemen by Azerbaijani servicemen, which, according to the Human Rights Watch NGO and investigative journalists of Belingat, was filmed in mid-September 2022.
The report also mentions the cases of inhumane treatment of the bodies of Armenian female servicemen during the September conflict, attacks on civilian infrastructure by Azerbaijani forces, targeting of emergency vehicles.
The report also presents cases of violations of human rights in Armenia, including the use of force by the security forces, bad conditions in prisons, arbitrary arrests, and restrictions on freedom of speech.

Adam Schiff condemns Louis Bono's statement on excluding sanctions against Azerbaijan

In the letter initiated by Schiff, in particular, it is said: "We are deeply disturbed by your comments during the trip, which exclude the use of economic and diplomatic sanctions against Azerbaijan in response to their obvious aggression. You have been reported to have stated that "this is not the time for sanctions ... it's not even on the table at this point." While 120,000 innocent people are in the third month of being deprived of their basic rights due to the blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh, which the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ordered Azerbaijan to end, now is not the time to rule out any tools."
The letter also states that the US, the US President, the US State Department and the entire administration should use all the tools at their disposal to ensure the safety of the people of Artsakh, including ending financial support to Azerbaijan and imposing sanctions against that country.

Armenia’s Supreme Spiritual Council urges international community to press for implementation of UN Court decision by Azerbaijan

“It is with deep sorrow that we record that it is already the 100th day that the authorities of Azerbaijan have blocked the Berdzor (Lachin) corridor connecting Artsakh with Armenia, with the intensifying manifestations of anti-Armenian policy,” the Council said.
“The physical and psychological pressures, violence and terrorist acts carried out regularly by Azerbaijan against the Armenian population of the Republic of Artsakh deepen the catastrophic humanitarian situation. Contrary to the efforts of the peacekeeping personnel stationed in Artsakh, as a result of the criminal actions of the Azerbaijani authorities, people’s rights to life, treatment, movement and other fundamental rights are being violated,” it added.
The Supreme Spiritual Council highly appreciated the decision of the International Court of Justice regarding the lifting of the blockade of the Berdzor (Lachin) corridor by Azerbaijan and welcomed the call of the European Parliament urging the authorities of Azerbaijan to implement the decision of the UN Court.
“We express our surprise that despite the strong demands of the international community, its competent and influential structures to open the road, the blockade continues to this day,” the Council said.
It urged the UN structures, the European Parliament and the European Union, the heads of states and religious leaders to make consistent efforts to reach implementation of the judgment of the International Court by Azerbaijan, the condemnation of genocidal acts and the provision of a safe and normal life for the people of Artsakh.
“Toleration of such a blatantly disrespectful approach by Azerbaijan to the decision of the International Court will aggravate the humanitarian crisis, create new dangers for the lives of more than 120,000 people of Artsakh, create an unforgivable precedent for grossly circumventing the judgments of international courts, and at the same time cause deep disappointment in international justice,” the Spiritual Council stressed.
“Our Holy Apostolic Church, having the priority of saving and safety of human lives, will consistently protect the realization of the right of self-determination of the people of Artsakh, based on the principle of independence for the sake of safety and security,” the statement said.

The financial and economic policy of the state should be completely revised and restructured. State Minister of Artsakh

"It's been twenty days since I held the position of Artsakh state minister. During this period, quite a lot of work and time is devoted to mitigating the situation and consequences of the blockade of Artsakh. Along with all that, an attempt is being made to implement the short-term programs that are necessary to restore the normal life of the country and ensure minimum conditions.
When discussing every program or process, cases of ineffective or unnecessary subsidies, loans, financing, etc. by the state are brought to light. I stop or reduce such financial expenses almost every day, and in connection with suspicious or unjustified transactions, additional studies are given.
It is necessary to abandon the approach of burdening the state budget at every step and consider state funds exclusively as a stimulating and supporting tool when building state programs.
Social assistance programs should be implemented in such a way that the real beneficiaries, the citizens who actually need social assistance, benefit from it," wrote Nersisyan.

2023.03.21 23:52 EjmMissouri Cleansed by the blood, Washed in the Word

1 John 1:7 The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

The blood is central to the sanctuary service

Hebrews 9:22-23 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
John 1: 29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Jesus by His life and death on the cross fulfilled the ministry represented by the Sanctuary’s courtyard. He came to be the sinners sacrifice. He came to be the Lamb of God. No longer do people need to offer an animal to God when they sin. Jesus, the Lamb of God, is our sacrifice.

The Laver of Washing

Now before we move on to the sanctuary itself, there is one other item in the courtyard that we need to take a look at, and that is the laver of washing.
Exodus 30:18-21 You shall also make a laver of bronze, with its base also of bronze, for washing. You shall put it between the tabernacle of meeting and the altar. And you shall put water in it, for Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet in water from it. When they go into the tabernacle of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn an offering made by fire to the LORD, they shall wash with water, lest they die. So they shall wash their hands and their feet, lest they die. And it shall be a statute forever to them-to him and his descendants throughout their generations.
When we come to Jesus, confessing our sins, the promise is that not only are we forgiven our sins but we are also cleansed from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
This cleansing is spoken of in Titus 3:5 as “the washing of regeneration,” or as it may also be translated, “the washing of recreation,” for we are to be made a new creature, a new creation in Christ.

A New Creation

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
In other words, Jesus is not offering us a mere bandage fix to our sin problems, but it is His design to completely recreate us. He does not plan to simply patch up the old sinner, but to recreate you as a whole new person in Christ.

A Kingdom of Priests

The priests as they came to minister in the Sanctuary were to first wash themselves in the Laver of Washing before they performed any of the work of the Sanctuary. Likewise, we must ourselves be washed and made clean before we can effectually minister to others, bringing them to Jesus, for it is God’s purpose that we as Christians are to be to Him as a kingdom of Priests ministering to the world.
Exodus 19: 6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.
1 Peter 2:5,9 You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. … But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

Washed in the Word

Just as the priests of Israel needed to wash themselves daily as they served in the Sanctuary, we also, so long as we live in a sin polluted world, need to a daily washing as we go about ministering to others. And what is this water in which we are to wash ourselves daily? It is the Word of God. Said Jesus to His disciples;
John 15:3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
And again, it is written of Christ’s church;
Ephesians 5:26 That He [Jesus] might sanctify and cleanse her [the church] with the washing of water by the word.
John 13:3-15 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?” Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.” Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.” For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.” So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.”
Just as the feet of the disciples, though they had bathed, needed to be washed after walking the dusty streets of Jerusalem, so we also, though washed with the “washing of regeneration” (Titus 3:5) need to be refreshed and cleansed by the water of the Word as we go about ministering to others in this sin filled world.
Titus 3:5-6 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior.
This is the message of the laver of washing.

The Holy Place

Now moving on from the courtyard – How does Jesus fulfill the ministry of the Holy Place?
Hebrews 9: 24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.
After slaying the lamb, the repentant sinner could only walk away, trusting by faith in a promised Redeemer that his sins were really forgiven and that he was cleansed of guilt. After the sacrifice was made the sinner could do no more for himself except to trust in the promises of God. Promises such as;
Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
However, the Sanctuary service on behalf of the sinner did not end at the Altar of Burnt Offerings, nor does the plan of salvation end at the cross. The cross, however, makes all the rest possible. Without the cross everything else would be impossible.

The Blood Ministry

Now begins the blood ministry of the priest on behalf of the sinner. The exact ritual varies depending on who sinned and what the sin was – and again, as previously noted in earlier posts, this is a somewhat simplified overview of sanctuary service. And also, as previously noted, for simplicity sake I will be using a lamb in my examples when speaking of the earthly services.
Typically, either directly or indirectly, the priest carries the blood of the sin offering into the Sanctuary – into the first chamber known as the Holy Place – and sprinkles the blood before the altar of Incense which stands before the veil dividing the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place. Thus symbolically, a record of the sins of the people are carried and deposited inside the Sanctuary. This symbolic record of sins is representative of the books of record that the Bible tells us exist in heaven.
Daniel 7:10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.
Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
The Bible speaks of records that are kept in heaven, records that record our every act, our every thought, and even our motives. This book is spoken of in the Bible as the Book of Remembrance. There is also another book besides these that the Bible speaks of, and it is called the Book of Life.
As the sinner confessed his sin over the lamb he symbolically transferred his sin to the lamb. After the lamb was slain its blood was carried into the Holy Place of the Sanctuary and deposited before the Altar of Incense – a record of (and note this carefully), a record of CONFESSED SINS.

Only the sin that is confessed is brought into the Sanctuary

Only the sin that is confessed is covered by the ministration of Jesus our heavenly High Priest. As the Bible says;
Proverbs 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
And again;
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Once for All – The Fullness of Christ’s Ministry

In the services of the earthly Sanctuary there were many different kinds of sacrifices because no one single sacrifice was sufficient to illustrate all the fullness of Christ’s ministry. But in contrast, Jesus, who is the fulfillment of all these multitudes of sacrifices was offered only one time – once for all. And His one sacrifice was all sufficient.
Hebrews 7:27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Hebrews 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Hebrews 10:10-12 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God.

An Unceasing Ministry

Day after day, year after year, century after century the endless offerings went on, each yearly round of ceremonies illustrating to the people the whole of God’s plan of salvation.
The building of the Sanctuary itself, as originally constructed by Moses, was an elaborate tent constructed of various fabrics and animal skins over a gold plated wooden frame. Inside the first veil which served as a doorway into the structure was the Holy Place. Here stood the seven branched candle stick, the Table of Shew Bread, and the Altar of Incense. Passing through the second veil you entered the Most Holy Place. Here was the Ark of the Covenant.
The ministry of the Holy Place (just like that of the courtyard) was continual, daily in nature. It never ceased, but continued year around – symbolic of Christ’s unceasing ministry on our behalf, symbolic of the constant availability of forgiveness, and of restoration, and of reconciliation.

The Blood Ministry of the Holy Place

And the ministry of the Holy Place, was also a blood ministry, as it is written;
1 John 1:7 The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
And as the earthly Sanctuary serves as an example and shadow, an illustration if you will, of heavenly things – Then we can expect to find in the heavenly Sanctuary a blood ministry that corresponds to the blood ministry of the earthly Sanctuary. And indeed, we do.
Hebrews 9: 11-14, 22-24 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?… And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.

A Heavenly Sanctuary

The Bible is explicit. A Sanctuary exists in heaven. Jesus is the High Priest of that heavenly Sanctuary. And all that was done in its earthly copy is symbolic of the reality that is accomplished for us in the heavenly.
Upon His ascension, Jesus entered into the Holy Place of the heavenly Sanctuary, where He intercedes for us. Hebrews 9:24 says He appears in the presence of God for us with His own blood. The work of the Holy Place symbolizes Christ’s work of perfect intercession. The Altar of Incense in the Holy Place represents Christ’s life of perfect righteousness. His perfect life is added as precious incense to the prayers of the God’s people as they ascend to heaven.
In the book of Revelation we are given glimpses of this heavenly sanctuary – and of Jesus as our High Priest. In Revelation 1 we see Jesus inside the Holy Place of the Sanctuary.
Revelation 1:12-13 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
Here Jesus is seen in that part of the heavenly Sanctuary containing the seven golden candlesticks – whose earthly counterpart was the seven branched candlestick in the Holy Place.
Moving on to chapter 8 we find activity in yet another part of the Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary.
Revelation 8:3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
This Altar of Incense (just like the Altar of Burnt Offering), also stands in a direct line between the repentant sinner and the law. In regard to the earthly service at this second altar, God says;
Exodus 30:1,7-8 And thou shalt make an altar to burn incense upon: of shittim wood shalt thou make it … And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it and when Aaron lighteth the lamps at even, he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations.
[And by the way, – just a little side note – it was here by the Altar of Incense that the angel Gabriel announced to Zacharias that his wife Elizabeth would have a son, and that son was to grow up to be John the Baptist.]

Three Impassable Barriers

Again, it is important to note that in the wilderness sanctuary as God directed Moses to build it, thee barriers stood between the repentant sinner and the broken law. These were the Altar of Burnt Offering, the Laver of Washing and the Altar of Incense. All three stood in a direct line between the repentant sinner and the broken law. What we see here is the reality that Jesus, by virtue of His perfect life and sacrifice, stands between the repentant sinner and the broken law. The sinner is reconciled to God through the death of Christ and saved by His life;
Romans 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
Jesus is not only He who died for us, but He is also the One who lives. Our God is a living God.
Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
The earthly Sanctuary and its services serve as a very accurate and reliable illustration of the heavenly Sanctuary and its services. By the understanding of the earthly in the light of the life and death and resurrection of Jesus, we can understand the ministry of Jesus (our great heavenly High Priest) in the heavenly sanctuary.
