2023.03.22 14:20 the_dumbass_one666 Not Good, Still Awesome: The Spellrending Arcanist
The depth of Pathfinder Second Edition's core character creation goes above and beyond in terms of offering potential for players to explore cool ideas and try interesting combos. This great depth is worked into a mathematical system which does its utmost to ensure that basic competency is maintained despite players making unique and 'suboptimal' choices.
what im trying to say is, i want a character who specialises in nullifying enemy casters and generally being a nightmare for them to deal with, all whilst mimicking some flavour from the pathfinder 1e arcanist, and being a fairly effective caster all around
We want to absolutely screw over casters as everyone knows, counterspelling is pretty widely disliked in this system for being exceptionally niche and situational, this build attempts to try and fulfill a similar fantasy as much as possible whilst speccing into other classic "antimagic" ideals, such as heavy armour and high int. (
The Spellrending Arcanist Ancestry: Human, this is because heavy armour is cool and we want it ASAP, throw your points into CHA and STR
Heritage: Versatile human, your general feat is going to be armour proficiency
Ancestry feat: grab general training, armour proficiency to obtain medium armour proficiency as a sorcerer at level 1
Background: Student of Magic lets us put a point each into Charisma and Strength again, and also grab the recognize spell skill feat
Class: we are going to go for an Imperial sorcerer, for the skill bonus that can be used for an intimidation package, and for identifying spells, as well as the vast repertoire of spells that can be countered. we get a boost to Charisma. we start proficient in: Arcana, Diplomacy, Intimidation, Nature, Society and Academia Lore. (typically this series doesn't focus much on skills, but a lot of this build is reliant on them, so i will continue to update this as we progress through the levels)
Determine Array: boost strength, int, wis, cha, dex
14/10/12/12/12/18, we are a little dumb for now, but we can fix that as we level up
build path level 1 nothing happens this level, unfortunate really
level 2 grab additional lore as a skill feat, i personally like monster lore, but this is really up to the campaign you are in. also grab a sentinel dedication for your class feat (at this level you can switch from a breastplate to fullplate after getting heavy armour proficiency)
level 3 grab incredible initiative and increase arcana to expert
level 4 dangerous sorcery, there isn't really anything else we want this level so may as well grab the quintessential sorcerer feat. for your skill feat grab bon mot to setup for will saves.
level 5 16/10/14/14/12/19 is your new stat array, starting to get smarter. grab proficiency in nature, at this level we can increase our intimidation to expert, and we also grab natural ambition for a familiar
level 6 at this level we can increase our defences significantly through the armour specialization feat, and finalize the sentinel archetype with steel skin
level 7 at this level we can increase our intimidation to master, making our demoralizes stronger, and grab the fleet general feat to offset our insufficient strength movement penalty
level 8 at this level we can start a new archetype by grabbing the
chronoskimmer dedication for an assurance that we can get off our turn one debuffs as soon as possible. speaking of turn one debuffs, at this level we also grab terrifying resistance to be a little bit more of a nightmare to spellcasters
level 9 at this level we increase our diplomacy to expert to better face and land bon mots, we also take the multitalented feat for barbarian, trying to fix up our somewhat atrocious health pool. (this is probably flavoured as just infusing our magic into our bodies/armour)
level 10 18/10/14/16/14/20, we have finally reached a decent level of intellect, our strength is high enough to wear full plate without speed penalties (throw our training in occultism from increasing int) , and our spells and skills get a little stronger. at this level we also grab advanced bloodline for that juicy focus spell as well as terrified retreat to get just that little bit scarier
level 11 master diplomacy to face better and land bon mots better, and more toughness with.. toughness.
level 12 at this level we can grab skeptics defense for the power to bully spellcasters into hurting us less, and juggernauts fortitude to better survive that reduced damage.
level 13 at this level we up our arcana to master, and grab bounce back as an ancestry feat for some more survivability
level 14 greater bloodline gives yet another focus spell option, and we all know versatility is king, and quick recognition lets us really start abusing arcane countermeasures
level 15 19/10/16/16/16/21. unfortunately we need other stuff so we cant increase int, but we can at least bring arcana to legendary for maximised recall knowledge. as a general feat we are going to want canny acumen to increase our reflex saves, as direct damage is still our weakness as sorcerers.
level 16 unified theory is an amazing skill feat which will let us use arcana for another skills recall knowledge checks, amazing. we also get effortless concentration as essentially an arcane caster feat tax
level 17 legendary intimidation lets us really start pushing our (not inconsiderable) weight around, ensuring that we get those anti spell bonuses up and running, and heroic presence is a free spell we wouldn't otherwise have access to
level 18 at this level scare to death is just too funny to pass up as our skill feat, and echoing spell lets us more reliably throw low level debuffs at enemies
level 19 legendary diplomacy means we can do even more will save debuffing, and diehard works further towards making us more durable
level 20 20/10/18/16/18/22 max out our casting stats, grab glad hand, because we are running out of directly useful skill feats. and bloodline paragon because 10th levels spells are that good.
bonus section: spells everyone knows that spell selection is at least half of spellcaster character creation, and yet most build guides will avoid mentioning it beyond one or two examples, so here is a recommended set of "optimal spells" to take at each level *(S) means signature spell
0: Detect Magic, Electric Arc, Mage Hand, Shield, Telekinetic Projectile
1: Command, Feather Fall, Magic Missile (S), Schadenfreude
2: Dispel Magic (S), Ignite Fireworks, Illusory Object, Vomit Swarm
3: Haste, Mind of Menace, Slow (S), Time Jump
4: Dimension Door, Fireball (S), Fly, Invisibility
5: Blazing Fissure (S), Command, Prying Eye, Shadow Siphon
6: Collective Transposition, Disintegrate, Unexpected Transposition, Wall of Force (S)
7: Power Word Blind, Prismatic Spray, Reverse Gravity, Spell Turning (S)
8: Blood Boil, Disappearance, Earthquake, Maze (S)
9: Foresight, Massacre (S), Prismatic Sphere, Weird
10: Time Stop, Wish

2023.03.22 13:26 AnderLouis_ Hail and Farewell (George Moore) - Chapter 7.1
PODCAST: https://ayearofwarandpeace.podbean.com/e/ep1511-hail-and-farewell-george-moore-ave-chapter-71/ PROMPTS: Are we entirely certain we are reading Book 1?
Today's Reading, via Project Gutenberg: VII
Though we could find nothing of interest to say about Rothenburg, we did not wish to leave the town in a slighting silence, so I asked Edward if he thought that living among medieval aspects influenced the children playing, and if it were possible to feel sure that the Rothenburg mind could be as effective in modern life as the Berlin, or the Carlsbad, or the Dresden? Edward replied that he did not know or care whether it would be as effective, but was quite sure that life in a medieval town could not fail to produce a beautiful mind, and a long discussion sprang up between us, I maintaining that it were better to live in a modern town like Düsseldorf, in which there is only one picture—Holbein's Holy Family—then to live in a medieval town like Rothenburg, where there are only roofs and lanterns; Edward declaring that art is traditional, and where there is no tradition there can be no art, and, though it was not likely that Rothenburg would produce an impressionist painter—
There is no saying that Rothenburg might not produce another Cranach, or, better still, another Luther. And you would not mind sacrificing some red roofs to save Europe from another heresy.
Edward did not like my remark. It proved my soul, he said, a shallow one, for whenever I was being cornered in an argument I tried to banter my way out.
Continue, my dear friend; but I don't see your point.
Nor do I see yours, he answered—I thought somewhat testily. Rothenburg is a Gothic town, and you don't approve of the Gothic. Is your proposal to turn the people out of Rothenburg and keep the place as a museum? You wouldn't destroy it, I suppose?
Destroy it! No, I answered. But if it can be shown that medieval surroundings are not altogether a healthy influence upon children, do you not think that some opportunity should be given to them for contrasting the old with the new, and that some part of the town, for instance, should be modernised?
It is possible that the reader will think that I was rather tiresome that day, but so was the train, and to while away the time there was no resource but to raise the question whether Rothenburg would have produced the same Edward as Galway. But the question did not succeed in provoking any of those psychological admissions that make him so agreeable a travelling companion. He was not in a communicative mood that afternoon, and to draw him out I was obliged to remind him that Bavaria is Protestant and Catholic, and strangely intermixed, for the two sects use the same church—service at eleven and Mass at twelve.
And you might have been brought up a Protestant, Edward, or half and half.
A grave look came into his face, and he answered that if he hadn't been brought up a Catholic, and severely, he might have gone to pieces altogether; and I sat pondering the very interesting question whether Edward would have done better as a Protestant than as a Catholic. Every man knows himself better than any one else can know him, and Edward seemed to think that he needed a stay. Perhaps so, but there is a vein of thought—perhaps I should say of feeling—in him which Catholicism seems to me to have restrained, and which Protestantism, I like to think, would have encouraged. The effect of religion upon character was worth considering, and as there was nothing else to do in the train I set myself to think the matter out.
But it is hard to set bounds on one's thoughts, and mine suddenly turned from Edward, and I found myself wondering if the great genius towards whom we were faring could have written
The Ring in Rothenburg. Now this was a question which had to be put to Edward, and at once, and he applied himself to it, pointing out that Bayreuth was nearly as quaint and slumberous as Rothenburg, yet Wagner had written part of
The Ring in Bayreuth. True that he had written parts of it all over Europe; some of it was written in Switzerland, some in Italy, some even in Dorset Square.
But if he had been born in Rothenburg and had never left it—
The noise of the train prevented me from catching his answer, and leaning back in my seat, I fell to thinking of the extraordinary joy and interest that Bayreuth had been in my life ever since Edward and I went there for the first time at the beginning of the 'nineties, after hearing a performance of
The Ring in London.
It had been the horns announcing the Rhine that re-awakened my musical conscience. The melodies of my own country I had never heard. Offenbach and Hervé stirred me to music when we went to live in London, and I carried to Paris all their little tunes in my head. Painters are often more or less musicians: one such drifted into our studio, and he introduced me to the Circle des Merlitons, where I heard Haydn, Beethoven, Mozart. Classical music ousted operette without difficulty; and as long as there were musical friends about, music was followed with as much interest as could be spared from the art of painting. But when the maladministration of my affairs called me from Paris to Ireland musical interests disappeared with my French friends; they were driven underground when agrarian outrages compelled me to consider the possibility of earning my living. The only way open to me was literature, so I went to London to learn to write, as has been told in a chapter in an earlier book.
In London literature and poverty absorbed me for several years, and I had forgotten music altogether when Edward asked me if I would go to hear
The Rhinegold. I had consented, regretting my promise almost as soon as it was given, for Wagner was reputed unmelodious and difficult to all except the most erudite, and fearing that I should be bored for several hours by sounds which would mean nothing to me, I began to seek for excuses, and to ask Edward if he could not dispose of the ticket he had taken for me. He could not do this, and as my plaints did not cease, he said to me, as we walked up King's Bench Walk:
Well, there's no use your coming. All my pleasure will be spoilt.
The dark theatre reminded me of the rooms at exhibitions in which bad pictures are exhibited, no light showing anywhere except on the picture itself; but the moment the horns gave out the theme of the Rhine my attention was arrested, and a few minutes after it was clear that new birth awaited me. A day or two later I heard
Tristan, and it so happened that there were performances at Bayreuth that year, so Edward and I went there together, and we have gone there many times since, each visit awakening every little musical faculty in me, and developing it; and though nothing can be created, a seed can be developed prodigiously, and a taste likewise, if the soil be fertile and circumstances fortunate. They were certainly favourable to my picking up this lost interest. Edward is a true melamonaic, loving all good music, and ready to travel anywhere to hear music; then there is Dujardin, who is always talking to me about music; his friends are musicians and whenever I go to Paris I am with musicians, talking about music when not listening to it, and once again my life began to unfold in a musical atmosphere. To feel one's life unfolding is joy. Life should never cease to unfold, and it will be time enough for Death to lower the banner when the last stitch of canvas is reached.
Now I was going to Bayreuth again, determined to understand
The Ring a little better than heretofore. But was this possible? I can learn until somebody tries to teach me; all the same every man is at tether, and lying back in my seat in the train from Rothenburg, a little weary of conversation with Edward, I relinquished myself to regrets that my ear only allows me to hear the surface of the music, the motives which float up to the top, the transforming effect of a chord upon a melodic phrase. I can hear that Wagner's melodies arise naturally one out of the other. If I could not hear that every melody in
Tristan rises out of the one that preceded it, Wagner would have written in vain, so far as I was concerned. My ear is but rudimentary, an ear that will seem like no ear to those who can hear the whole orchestra together and in detail, seeing in their mind's eye the notes that every instrument is playing. It is well to have their ears, but mere ear will not carry anybody very far; to appreciate music an intelligence is necessary; and those who are not gifted with too much ear can hear the music oftener than those who can read it. Last year in Paris Dukas told me he would not go to hear some music with me because he had read it, and having once read a piece of music there was nothing left in it for him.
So essentially human is Wagner that there is something in his art for everybody, something in his music for me, and a great deal for musicians; and besides the music, some part of which everybody except the tone-deaf can hear, there are the dramas, wonderful in conception and literary art; for him gifted with imagination there are scenes in
The Ring as beautiful as any in Shakespeare; and were Dujardin pressed to state his real feeling on the subject he would affirm that nothing has been written in words as moving as the scene in which Brünnhilde tells Siegmund that Wotan is calling him to Valhalla. Not the music, Dujardin cries—it is not the music that counts, but the words. The music is beautiful, of course it is—it couldn't be else; but so intensely aware was Wagner of the poetry that he allowed it to transpire.
One can think about Dujardin and Wagner without the time appearing long; and I had forgotten a very important matter about which there had been a great deal of correspondence, till I was suddenly reminded of it by a slackening in the speed of the train.
At the time I am writing of, Bayreuth was an uncomfortable town to live in; it has changed a good deal within the last ten years, and in the twentieth century we get better food in the restaurants than we did in the nineteenth; bathrooms have begun to appear, the fly-haunted privy is nearly extinct, and this was the important matter that the slackening of the train's speed had reminded me of. We had written many letters, and had many interviews with the agent who apportions out the lodgings, and my last words had been to him, A clean privy! He had promised that he would see to it, but from the direction in which the coachman was driving us, it would seem that the desirable accommodation was not procurable in the town. It was Edward who noticed that our coachman was heading straight for the country, and standing up in the carriage, he began to expostulate—ineffectually, however, for Edward's German is limited and the driver only laughed, pointing with a whip towards a hillside facing the theatre, and there we saw a villa embowered and overlooking a corn-field, a lodging so delightful that I could not but feel interested in Edward's objection to it.

2023.03.22 13:12 derf_the_perf Rod+reel setup recommendations
Hello all! I hear this is a friendly sub so please excuse my total ignorance.
Looking for recommendations on a rod+reel setup for my retiring Dad. He lives in western Missouri but will be all over the state, plus probably Texas and Arkansas for fishing. He has 20+ years experience but isn’t a fly fishing expert. Hoping for mid-range setup we could get him for about $800-$1k.
He wouldn’t just be fly fishing with it. I’d also love to hear tackle recommendations if anyone cares to share.
Thank you for any insight you can provide!

2023.03.22 12:58 shax262 Interaction between Dance of Many and Bladewing the Risen
Hi! Does dance of many enable the classical bladewing loop of ETB LTB? Does dance of many works like cursed mirror or every other cards that makes a copy of bladewing? No one ever mention this card as a combo with this dragon so I wonder why.
Bladewing the Risen Legendary Creature — Zombie Dragon
Flying When Bladewing the Risen enters the battlefield, you may return target Dragon permanent card from your graveyard to the battlefield. : Dragon creatures get +1/+1 until end of turn.
Dance of Many Enchantment
When Dance of Many enters the battlefield, create a token that's a copy of target nontoken creature. When Dance of Many leaves the battlefield, exile the token. When the token leaves the battlefield, sacrifice Dance of Many. At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice Dance of Many unless you pay 2Blue.
Thanks

2023.03.22 09:57 Tsukee Take on the new bot nanocore and just general state of the game.
Since there is so much talk about this and that recently, I decided to drop my own 2 cents about it.
First to make it clear: I agree NE could be doing a lot, with few relatively minor changes, for the health of this game. My main issue is that this game provides no appeal for new joiners, at least after they spend a few weeks learning that it will take them a huge amount of time or cash to get to a level where they can start having fun (I am talking about a complete newbie to eve universe having no clue, ofc there are things you can do with a new account if you know what). This is IMO the primary reason this game is dying, everyone gets tired of a game eventually, you need fresh blood to keep it going. EO learned that the hard way a few times over. People like to point to CCP to show how much they care about community and make the game better.... It took a few "almost dead" experienced in EO, there were stupid patches that made mass quits and there were low times where people got bored and started quitting, and at the end of every major war there was a considerable dip in players logging in. I don't really think EE can crawl out of it's pit at this stage, but just throwing it out there that EO isn't really that knight in a shiny armor some people are making it out to be. Echoes despite all its failings still stands out in the mobile gaming, if you think EE has "the worst p2w" you haven't seen shit. Numbers and skills in echoes still matter a lot and no matter how much you spend you can still be killed by f2ps.
In regards to implants: They come up a lot recently, being a prime example of p2w. Now let's start with the bad: They are 0 risk investment (except potential nerfs that can come at anytime) and in a game of risk/reward that's bad. They force you to specialize, before implants it was common to have skills for multiple weapon systems, especially for smaller ships, with implants it gets a lot harder to have a good leveled up implant for that many, but if you look back in time, it also took a long time to get good skills across the board anyway. The grind is almost necessary (due to the now soon to be even worse price of the compilers), the isk investment compared to the grind is just insane and dormants are not for everyone. However that said, they really aren't much of a p2w.... For anyone playing this game for more than few months, they are very obtainable, start slow and upgrade them as you go. Yes you can cash out a good chunk of money to skip the process, but a level 30 implant is obtainable in 2-3 months by spending an hour or so a week. (I will keep mentioning lvl 30, because lvl 45 is 10 times more expensive, and except on like 2-3 implants is not worth it, and even on those is mostly highly specialized and most players can do without). People say dormants can't be done etc etc.... Even lvl 6 dormants already give decent rewards, lvl6 can be done easily. The new surge attack dormant realm can even be done with fairly basic ships, granted lvl 10 takes a bit of trial and error, but even that is doable with ships that aren't even t10. So yeah it is doable, but.... as I mentioned earler is forced content in a sandbox that should allow more different play styles, and chunking like 30bil isk compared to 2-3months 1hweek for many players the DR grind is a lot more accessible. As for balance, that one is a bit tricky, for sure they changed things a lot, many of the tactics changed, and a lot knowledge especially for pvpers had to be re-leared, knowing what to engage and what not, playstyle of especially smallgang became very different. But this at least in my opinion makes things exciting, sadly most of the playerbase doesn't even understand the basics of implants, most people are adverse to change and will often put blame on either balance or "p2w" for their failing to adapt. That said, yeah not all implants are equally effective and given the grind needed is a lot harder to change doctrines incorporating implants. One of my main issues in regards to balance, is that implants make the life of tackle even harder now, it is always the tackle that gets the short end of the stick. But again, there are ways to adapt. So to conclude, my main issue with implants is that they are more of a "classic mmo" content and less sandboxy, but I find it funny that most players complaining about implants, play this game in a more classical way anyway....
Now about the new nanocore:
Ok let's see after patch.... But the "AI" upgrade trully won't change much. People think everyone and their dog will now live in the 3 good hisec islands afk farming... it won't happen more than already is. 2nd of all, game is already overriden by bots, if you think otherwise you are in denial. Market won't suddenly crash due to the "everyone making gazzilion of isk every day". They are also introducing limits (that they will likely tweak based on the use). One of the main concerns I have is that the upgrade will be out of reach of most people, making it even more moot. But what I want to talk about is, this is a sandbox game, go fucking out and play, don't get stuck on the ratting part, there is so much more this game has to offer, it is in fact a war game. I am not saying everyone needs to become a pirate, but there are so many things that one can do in this game, yet most people are stuck on ratting, maybe just maybe this new nanocore upgrade will free some of your ingame time to actually do something in this game, beside rat.
That said, the more concering thing on the new system is the nanocore upgrades, we still have to see how exactly it works, but combining multiple nanocores might trully provide unfair advantages, but as seen before there is always counterplays anyway.
In conculusion, this patch brings a wave of new things to be played with, as always is more oriented toward endgame/whale kind of players, while we are still missing a lot of basics to get people hooked into the game, that is why EE is constantly bleeding in player count. But that's nothing new, it's been happening since the introduction to nanocores . This game is dying no denying it, and NE is the one killing it. But is not dead yet, so maybe before throwing in the towel, go out and play and do stupid shit, it's fun, I've stopped playing the game as intended.... well month 2 after the start... Forsake the way NE wants you to play and have some fun until the game dies.
shit this is long, so long I almost need to conclude this with:
Fly aggressive o7

2023.03.22 09:18 69Firefox420 Reviewing all Bandori albums Part 9 - QUINTET
At long last the world has been graced by the release of the first album by Morfonica, QUINTET. Having been over a year and a half since the last Bandori album release (and nearly as long since I wrote my last review) I was eager to finally get to hear what they had been working on for this album. Would Morfonica manage to find a way to define their sound in an interesting and exciting way as Afterglow had done on ONE OF US, or would they fall into the trap of making overproduced and painfully formulaic music as has happened to Roselia? Given all the singles released prior to this album it was possible to see Morfonica going either direction, and in the end the result still ends up somewhere in the middle.
The first thing I should address before getting deeper into the review is my biggest potential bias. I am Tsukushi's biggest fan. Tsukushi is the best part of this entire franchise. Tsukushi is the most talented and most adorable member of any of the seven bands. If Tsukushi has million number of fans I am one of them. If Tsukushi has ten fans I am one of them. If Tsukushi has no fans, that means I am no more on the earth. If the world is against Tsukushi, I am against the world. And copypastas aside, Tsukushi's work on this album is fantastic. She perfectly underscores all of the biggest sonic moments on the album, always creating the perfect driving force to push through and build the most exciting moments of the heaviest songs on the album. On the other end of the spectrum, she creates a very stable rock for the rest of the band to sit on top of in the more easy-going songs. Tsukushi is practically flawless throughout the entire album, and what else would you expect?
Rui is also great on this album. She displays a high level of skill even as a classical player in the confines of rock arrangements. In a context like this it can be easy for the violin to sound like just a gimmick or to get lost in the sound in the rest of the band, but most often it is Rui who carries these songs instrumentally. On "Prelude to Gold" it is Rui's sweet and delicate melodies connecting the sections that really complete the songs aesthetic. "Melancholic Lullaby", one of the new songs released with the album, has Rui playing a lot of great phrases perfectly accentuating the other parts. On this song she also plays a lot of intervals, including some short feature sections where she plays them with oblique motion. I don't think I've had to mention oblique motion yet in one of these reviews despite it being the best kind of motion. I guess that's just another one of the unique things Rui brings to the table. "Daylight," the albums opening track, is also a standout track for Rui. Her solo at the beginning of this song sets a great tone for the rest of the album as well as being one of the most memorable parts of the album. Whether she's the main point of interest or just acting as the decoration for everyone else's parts, Rui doesn't disappoint.
Meanwhile, as Rui and Tsukushi compete to see who can contribute more to the album, Nanami and Toko are in a dead heat to see who can contribute the least. In what seems to be the standard for Bandori albums, the basslines sit in an area somewhere between boring and entirely unnoteworthy. As for Toko, she sits in mostly the same space aside from the moments where she is actively detrimental to the songs. Having listened to the album multiple times, it is unclear whether she is capable of playing anything besides the most basic rhythms and lackluster solos. Her solo on "flame of hope" is great example of everything wrong with her playing. Besides her solo section, this is probably the best song on the album, with lots of strong violin playing by Rui and a powerful group sound. Then Toko's solo happens. She takes almost no creative liberties, hitting the root notes multiple times with quarter and eighth notes, doesn't attempt to extend or develop the meager ideas the solo opened with, and overall ends up being leagues less interesting than Rui's background part playing at the exact same time. Any time Toko leaves the background herself she doesn't contribute anything worthwhile. Having such a weak player as the lead guitarist of the band does a lot to hold back the full potential of these songs.
Among all these songs, the biggest point of lost potential is "fly with the night". I've tried to like this song, but it always feels like something is missing from it. Once again Rui does a great job and the song is worth listening to if only just for that. Otherwise, the rest of the band seems to be always a step behind her and delivers one of the least inspired choruses on the album and some not so appealing vocal melodies throughout. "Harmony Day" suffers in a very similar way, with Rui managing to salvage most of it while Toko's ill-conceived background filling makes the rest a pain to listen to. Then there's "Colorful Liberty" and "Yorube no Sunny, Sunny" which to me come across more as rejected Poppin'Party songs. I'm not exactly sure what it is about these songs that makes me feel this way. Maybe its the poorly done group vocals? Or the higher pitched single channel guitar moments? Whatever it is, I can do without it. All of the songs mentioned in this paragraph show the potential of something that could be great with some more work, yet none of them quite manage to find it. What I think it boils down to is that Bandori composers are afraid to take risks. Maybe what this band has really needed the whole time is a non-Bandori composer....
...and that's exactly what they got! (at least for one song.) "The Cricle Of Butterflies" features the writing talents of Jun'ichi Satou from fhana. I did not listen to this song when it first came out mostly because Ayase had ruined my idea of what a guest composer meant for Bandori songs with his work on Poppin'Party's "Introduction," a song which in my opinion is a mistake and one of the worst in Poppin'Party's catalogue. Now that I've heard "The Circle Of Butterflies" I can see I was wrong to assume all guest composers are a bad idea and Ayase's butchering of Poppin'Party's sound is an isolated incident. Satou does a great job with Morfonica on this song. Mashiro is given a lot of space to sing her heart out while being backed up by a fuller string arrangement. Toning back the guitar and drums for one track makes it sound so open and freeing compared to the rest of the album. It was also a bold decision to have a group of strings and not just use the proven talent of Rui, but in the end it works out. This is really a Mashiro feature song. Perhaps having only Rui instead of an entire string section would have pulled too much attention away from Mashiro and lessened the impact of the song. I also like how the lyrics here are more imaginative than the rest of the album, a lot more in line with what I would expect from Mashiro, picturing herself as being in a cocoon closing herself off from people but wanting to break free and become a butterfly. A theme similar to what Mashiro wrote in "Bloom Bloom", another stand out song lyrically, and executed just as well on "The Circle Of Butterflies".
Now is the time I must talk in more specifically about Mashiro's singing. I'll try and keep it simple. Mashiro is a good singer. Her voice isn't bad. If you're still one of these people that thinks her voice is bad then you are wrong and don't know what bad singing sounds like. That one note in "Daylight" is the only time she hits a bad note on the whole album, but that's more the fault of how they wrote the part and not her singing. Her lyrics also fail to be as colorful and and wonderous as her imagination a lot of the time, but again that is independent of her singing. I will not be responding to any Mashiro doubters.
Another thing this album does that I like is it lets Mashiro carry the vocals (mostly) by herself. All the other bands have way too many sections of vocals being passed off to other members besides the lead or sections with pretty weak group unison parts. I've mostly felt that these sections are mostly pandering and unnecessary. Luckily, Morfonica does not do the same. Group unison parts are used sparingly, so when it does come up a lot in a song like "Chikai no Wingbeat" it actually acts as a unique identity for that song compared to the others instead of just being a pointless distraction from the main vocalist.
CONCLUSION: Morfonica's debut album QUINTET shows more than anything that the band still has a long way to go. Some members don't contribute as greatly as others, and some songs fail to be memorable overall despite some great single-person efforts. That being said, when they do make something that hits, oh boy does it hit. 'Explosive' is rarely a word I'd use to describe violin playing, but in the case of this album it definitely fits. Hard hitting rock songs are where this band is at it's best, yet they don't need to depend on this as their only way to keep your attention. Attempts to change the pace with slower songs or fuller melodies also go over mostly well. Even though I am disappointed by what I saw as lost potential on some of these songs, the album is still enjoyable overall, with their worst stuff still setting a higher bar than the worst stuff of most other bands in the franchise. I hope that future releases by Morfonica show a stronger group effort and less filler songs.

2023.03.22 08:19 Xjapan30 Sweat Equity is really sweaty and nasty. But, I like it nasty.
I got laid off from an IT job during the Pandemic in MA. After some deep thoughts, I sold my house and moved to the corner of FL. I used the money I from my old house and picked up two 1br. duplexes and a single house on the two adjoining lots in the Ghetto. The city is being gentrify. I'm just a victim of a good deal and don't have much money, so I gamble with what I have . The buildings were complete junk, and need total renovation. I gutted and renovated the 2br. house and live there as my main residence. Then, I start to tear it up and rebuild one after another. I have to pause here and there when money running low. I cashed out my 401K and sold my beloved classic car to fund the construction projects. It was a rough road with sore hands and tired feet. I just finished my 3rd rental unit and just rented out. One more unit left to go, but no money left, so I'm looking to go back to work and raise some capital. My buildings worth 4x what I paid for a little more than two years ago, so my gamble wasn't too bad. I'm new and just found out about this forum. This forum give me some much helpful insights that I never knew. I'm tiring of doing things the hard way, and there must be better ways. I'm all ears.
Thank you for the tips in advance.

2023.03.22 07:04 Additional_Meat_2147 New Bar in Scottsdale, AZ made their entire bartop out of Pinball Playfields. (Night Owl is name of bar)
2023.03.22 06:20 Zerxin Is it worth getting back into classic at this point?
Spent 10 hours a day playing vanilla, loved every second but quit a month into tbc because the game just didn't feel like wow to me anymore. Azeroth felt empty, no wpvp in outlands because of flying and now also because every server is either 99% horde or ally which is probably my biggest issue and one that blizzard seem to have no intention of fixing.
Now that wotlk is underway I know it's only a matter of time before the last raids are cleared in maybe 6-7 months and the game dies because no one seems to want classic cata. So is it worth investing my time to try and get geared and try some current raids like ulduar? I'm level 70 ally druid with decent feral gear ready to see what northrend levelling has in store. But am I too late to the party? Or is there still plenty to do and will be for a while?

2023.03.22 05:11 ThePookaSings Dreaming of Anakin
Hello Dreamers,
My name is asdf and I dream about Anakin. Skywalker. Yes that one. Darth Vader, but still 'good', when he was still a good man.
Some of the most profound dreams i've ever dreamed have involved Anakin. Where I am him. I become lucid, I can jump really high (but not quite fly). Sometimes I can fly lol. I have these dreams where I realize I am dreaming, and I have perfect self-control. But often in these dreams I feel as though I am Anakin, often wielding a Blue-Lightsaber, in first-person view-point. I always remember these dreams and they will mesmerize me for weeks after.
In my most recent dream, I was tending a wood-fire pizza oven, but instead of having a long metal spatula, it instead turned out to be my classic blue lightsaber as soon as I pulled it out of the fire-oven. I pulled out a long metal sword that was wrapped in white bandage wrappings. When I did this, the wrappings fell of to reveal an ultra-4k blue lightsaber, sound effects and everything. I turned to my right and saw Emperor Palpatine laughing maniacally and cheering me on! He was in his melty stage with a black hood. That's significant as that means it represents the Emperor after his Mace Windu scene. All of this happening in first person view point, I consciously started swinging my blue lightsaber around as if I was trying it out. It all felt really good. But why was Palpatine cheering me on if my Lightsaber was blue when I pulled it out of the fire? Shouldn't it be red if he's happy? Or is he mocking me? Yes it was a very symbolic dream, enough that I came to post here. Is there some sort of Anakin-complex here? And if so why do I always feel like the good guy in the dreams? Did Darth Vader feel like the good guy in his dreams? Did Lil' anni? I feel like there is information to be gleaned. Have any other redditors had similar dreams? I feel like this could be something common among people my age, that grew up during all that phase of Star Wars. That's what I want to hear about in the comments. Thank you for your time sorry for the poor sentence structure... I am in a dream-state already aka ready for SLEEP im so tired HAH. Good post???

2023.03.22 04:10 InfernoAA Blitz XVII ~ "DAMN, I'M THIRSTY. I WANT A BEER. WHAT ABOUT YOU? YOU WANT A BEER?" Results
STEEZ, he’s a hothead. Last week in Quebec some Canadian starts talking smack and STEEZ he just snapped. Beat him to death. Turns out that Canadian is a somebody and now STEEZ, he’s into the Canadians for a million.
Non-Title: FBE World Heavyweight Champion Inferno vs Simon Brown With the lovely Simon Brown stepping back into the ring, the Junior Division original took it to the reigning FBE World Heavyweight Champion in a match they’ve long awaited since 2020, and it was every bit worth the wait for both men, nothing short of uber competitive in their conquests to leave victorious. Inferno dictated the pace here between the two, the more experienced under this ruleset, but Brown was just as natural in keeping up, putting on a Pure Rules performance many second-timers would be envious of. Feet on the acceleration from start to finish, the action only grew hotter with each passing second until they hit their top speeds, the smell of burning rubber accompanying Baba Blitz notching his career’s 70th win, remaining in top form as Unbreakable V continues to near!
Inferno (12) def. Simon Brown (0)
D Block: James Scott [0] vs Erick Koeman [0] With the first two points of D Block in play, this was a true battle of hearts, once crowd favourite James Scott steadying his arrow at the apple sitting on the head of one of Blitz’s more popular recent additions, Erick Koeman. The Purest Protagonist wrestling an absolute banger in his in-ring return last week, it was clear he hadn’t missed a step in all those months, but with stakes to this one, he knew he couldn’t risk going 15 minutes again. Unlucky for him, the Flying Dutchman knew he’d need to drag his Aussie foe into deep waters if he wants a chance at drowning him, bringing exactly the opposite to Scott’s approach, trying to tire him out given the PROVINCE member’s more consistent endurance from being around lately. Though James would continue to run ahead of Erick by mere hair lengths, Koeman stayed on his tail without quit, falling just short of the finish line, Scott paring it first to take the points home!
James Scott [2] (7) def. Erick Koeman [0] (6)
B Block: Joey Joey Siwa [0] vs Hunter Maguire [0] In true Past vs Present dream encounter style, OG Junior Division graduate Joey Joey Siwa faced off against its latest graduate, Hunter Maguire, in a battle of two twisted fellows upstairs (though Siwa having his screws somewhat knocked back into place after his Moore arc). JJS’s first tournament appearance in 3 years, a standout in the first Gedo Classic, the odds weren’t in his favour when paired against the latest Gedo Classic’s runner-up, yet he still shot out the cannon swinging, initially overwhelming the Death to Juniors member in an all Siwa start to the match, short and snappy offence working in his favour. As the pace gradually began to slow though, Maguire worked inversely proportionally, picking up his own game, draining the hope from the ex-Superbubbly bit by bit. Another encounter so close you could only thread a finger through it, Hunter’s comeback worked favourably, securing him his first win as a Heavyweight!
Hunter Maguire [2] (7) def. Joey Joey Siwa [0] (5)
Desmond Caid vs Karma When teacher and student met for the very first time, the world stood still, knowing it’d bear witness to something special. In a love letter of sorts to Magnum Opus, Desmond Caid and Karma turned back the clocks to their famed alliance of the year prior, the creatures of the darkness stepping under the Maestro’s spotlight to let their undoubted chemistry be illuminated. And much like Logan vs Corey weeks prior at New Beginning V, these two knew each other like the back of their hand, very evenly matched as time constraints pressured them into throwing down their best hits in rapid succession so as to not fall behind. Punctuated by constant references to old tandem moves now stripped down to solo acts, Karma certainly had the man who gave him a helping hand impressed throughout this bout, but at the end of the day, it was the teacher that held close to his chest his hidden trump card of wisdom, dealing his biggest and final lesson here to put Karma away!
Desmond Caid (7) def. Karma (6)
D Block: Joshua Epps [0] vs Kentaro Sakamoto [0] Two forces of nature here on Blitz, it was the unstoppable force meeting the immovable object when Joshua Epps and Kentaro Sakamoto stood toe-to-toe. Two fighters in every sense of the word, God’s Greatest Athlete summoning all the blood, sweat and tears poured into Hodges’ Gymnasium, and El Cráneo cocking and loading his guns for hands, a highly abrasive showdown had the crowd on the edge of their seats, Epps and Sakamoto pulling no punches. Every point mattering, it reflected in both men’s unyielding persistence here to not give the other a single inch, knowing just how easily that can turn into the full yard, rather keeping one another in tight quarters, holding strong the proverbial clinch on the competition. Though Kentaro shone, his barrel was empty when he needed it most, Epps firing the final bullet through his skull instead to score 2!
Joshua Epps [2] def. Kentaro Sakamoto [0] by forfeit
B Block: Cactus Mike [0] vs FBE World Tag Team Champion Capital STEEZ [0] Hold onto your Smirnoff because this next one was a doozy. Denzel Washington front row for the action, there was but one question on the big man’s mind: have either of these two ever had their sh*t pushed in? Starkville, Mississippi firmly in hometown boy Cactus Mike’s corner, Capital STEEZ had a whole rowdy, packed 10,000+ capacity crowd to deal with, Humphrey’s Coliseum not letting the outsider off easy in Cardiac Cactus Country. Mike searching for redemption after their Lifeline Classic meeting two months ago, he poured his soul into the chase, giving his legendary foe an even closer and tougher battle than last time.
But it wasn’t just the FBE World Tag Team Champion that had to weather a storm, The Ark sent tossing and turning on the Seven Seas, though never sinking, Cactus keeping one hand on the wheel and another pointing at the mast’s flag reading ‘HAIL STATE’, fighting not only for himself but his people too. They were neck-and-neck till the very end, but ultimately STEEZ proved that King Kong ain’t got nun on him, scoring his career’s 75th win – ¾ of the way to the big 100!
Capital STEEZ [2] (8) def. Cactus Mike [0] (6)
B Block Standings: Place | Competitor | Points | Record |
1 | Capital STEEZ | 2 | 1-0-0 |
1 | Hunter Maguire | 2 | 1-0-0 |
3 | Cactus Mike | 0 | 0-0-1 |
3 | Joey Joey Siwa | 0 | 0-0-1 |
- | Nate Matthews | - | - |
D Block Standings: Place | Competitor | Points | Record |
1 | James Scott | 2 | 1-0-0 |
1 | Joshua Epps | 2 | 1-0-0 |
3 | Erick Koeman | 0 | 0-0-1 |
3 | Kentaro Sakamoto | 0 | 0-0-1 |
- | Misery | - | - |
That’s Night Two of the Shining Light League in the bag! Some movement taking place in all blocks now, you can say the competition’s starting to begin now as competitors define the role they’re going to be assuming for the next couple months. Still a couple lads left to have their first block matches though, it’s going to be crucial for them to make an impact so as to not fall behind their peers in the game already. But that’s a matter for the next week’s show. For now, remember, pure rules.

2023.03.22 03:57 BeatSheik Ensoniq Samplers: The Lost Gems in a Hip Hop Wonderland
If you were anything like me you starting producing in the DAW era whether that was Ableton, FL Studio, Pro Tools, Logic, Reason or one of the many other choices out there. Eventually after listening to your favorite producer's beats and being amazed by the sonics you decided to look up their equipment they used to gain some insight. You then stumble across hardware samplers and see everything ranging from Akai, Roland, Ensoniq, Kurzweil, Yamaha and every other major player around that time. Now you're thinking of taking the leap into vintage hardware samplers to catch some of that sonic magic to add to your own productions and you're friend Beatsheik is here to help.
This post in particular will focus on the Ensoniq line of samplers starting with the revolutionary Mirage to the last hurrah of the ASR-X (pro). Each one unique enough to stand on their own merits and fit a variety of musical styles. Below are my thoughts on each sampler with information and videos showcasing the total essence of what these beasts can do in the right hands.
Please be aware that these are comping from a hip hop producer standpoint first and an audiophile/gear nerd second since using the machines for creation is the most important view to me. Now let's begin.......
MIRAGE (1984)
Retail Price ($1695)
Resell Price ($300 - $500)
The Mirage is an 8-bit powerhouse that makes everything sound like lofi and gritty at any sample rate. It really sounds like what you expect true 8 bit to sound like and every emulation is a cheap imitation of that sound. Although with limited memory (128kb) it could be cumbersome for anyone to make anything more than a smaller looped production but thats where the hexidecimal creativity comes in. Sampling rates range from 8khz - 33khz.
Personally speaking unless you are just fond of the mirage or analog filters are a must then I would skip this one for hip hop production. However, if you are doing other genres that call for synth stabs or certain unique sonic touches then the Mirage is a winner. Also to note that it's the only ensoniq sampler with analog filters (low pass) so this can really help it shape sound in interesting ways.
Some notable songs made using the Mirage were Public Enemy's "Rebel Without A Pause" and Janet Jackson's Control & Rhythm Nation 1814 albums.
PROS: 1. Truly unique sound lofi quality. 2. Only sampler on the list with analog filters.
CONS: 1. Hexadecimal display is convoluted without menu handy. 2. Low memory even for vintage sampler standards. 3. No Sequencer, just a recorder so no quantization.
Mirage Video Examples:
https://youtu.be/tyMxRRdde-E https://youtu.be/14PMQ0kH5hA EPS CLASSIC (1988)
Retail Price ($1995 for keyboard, $1895 for rack)
Resell Price ($300 - $600)
This machine is a unique one as its the only 13 Bit sampler Ensoniq ever made. It is a slept on sampler for lofi production due to its various sample rates on input and adjustments of the anti aliasing filter can lead to some interesting sonic palettes. On input the sample rate can range from 6.25 khz to 52 khz and the sound of the eps to my ears are compressed, warm and gritty with a somewhat hollow punch to it. There is a certain authenticity to its lofi sound that just sounds right to my ears. That makes a huge difference when making samples for yourself later as this will alter future decisions mixing wise.
Notable songs made with the EPS are Shyheim's "Rugged Child" album, Das Efx's "Dead Serious" album and Silk Tymes Leather "It ain't where ya from...Its where ya at" album.
PROS: 1) Adjustable sample rate on input (6.25 khz - 52 khz), samples the lowest @ 6.25 khz. 2) Adjustable anti aliasing filter 3) 13 Bit (only sampler I believe to be 13 bit)
CONS: 1) Software can be buggy at times. 2) Limited overall memory without expander (480kb) 3) No effects
Eps Classic Video Examples:
https://youtu.be/7CoOtaoVFks https://youtu.be/9H73qtB9Fdk EPS 16+ (1990)
Retail ($2395 for stock ; $2495 for rack, $2995 for Turbo)
Resell Price ($500 - $1000)
This sampler literally is the exact middle of an ASR-10 and EPS Classic sonically and functionally. The sound is either lofi or hifi depending on your sample rate but retains the warmth and grit at the same time. Its sample rates on input range from 11khz to 46 khz and you can completely turn its anti aliasing filter off. This can lead to some strange tones and aliasing that DOES NOT sound like an sp 1200 but unlike anything else you'll find available. This machine is interesting from the others because it is the only unit that can install flash rom memory and not need a floppy or scsi device to boot up. Which means you won't have to worry about old drives or adding more cost to unit if you can find one fully loaded which I appreciate the most. Also I think because of this it operates the fastest.
Noteable songs made with the EPS 16+ are Mobb Deep's "The Infamous" album D'Angelo's "Brown Sugar" album and Wu Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M (along with a bunch of other songs on the 36 Chambers album)
PROS: 1) Sound quality is excellent with it being able to produce lofi or hifi tones.
2) The ONLY Ensoniq sampler where you can turn off the anti aliasing filter completely on input.
3) Flash Memory is amazing for not having to load os on floppy or sd.
CONS: 1) Only 2mb of memory stock.
2) Some units may overheat.
3) Being Mono only may be a turnoff for some.
EPS 16+ Video Examples:

Retail ($2695 for keyboard, $2895 for rack and $4495 for 88 key version)
Resell price ($700 - $1500)
This one is the best sampler Ensoniq made as far as functionality and sound come together in one innovative masterpiece. The warm sound of this sampler is on pabetter with any other sampler you will find. With the upgrades to all the samplers as time progressed this one was blessed with optional ram upgrades, more effects, ram tracks and other cool features. The sampling rates are either 29.5ish khz but they call it 30khz and 44khz (48khz if you use the digital card). You can however lower the sample rate as well as with the previous machines.
I really believe this machine is the peak of what Ensoniq offered before the company's demise due to being feature packed true sampler. That coupled with transwaves and looping features you can do whatever you want if you can think it out. Plus with the addons such as Digital I/O, Ram upgrade and SCSI2SD (or Zuluscsi, at the time of writing) you can have a sampler that stands the test of time.
Some notable albums made with the ASR-10 are Kanye West's "College Drop", Missy Elliott's "Supa Dupa Fly" and half Wu Tang Clan's "36 Chambers".
PROS: 1) Best sampler ensoniq ever made with more robust features and capabilities.
2) Better optional upgrades (Digital I/O board and ram)
3) Has the warmest sound and more FX
CONS: 1) Some people report more instability than previous EPS 16+
2) Slightly slower operations on later O.S. versions.
3) Because of its more complex insides it leaves more things to go wrong and fixing can be costly.

https://youtube.com/shorts/JUFPIKBEgs0?feature=share3 https://youtube.com/shorts/YXyhlCVIk9c?feature=share3 https://youtu.be/DUv7LO3kZvc ASR X/PRO (1997/98)
This one is the weirdest one design wise and workflow wise. Alot more menu diving in a less optimized way. The OS is like the others that if your having familiarity with one then you can navigate the rest.
The sound of this unit though in my opinion is underrated. I'd say that it's so hifi and warm that it sounds way more expensive than it really is. I really can't stress the immense sound quality of this machine and to me thats the only reason I've kept it around. The effects are good but I prefer the ASR 10 effects more but I lean towards the X sonically for hifi and drums. If you can get one of these cheap to pair with something like an MPC or other modern sampler I think you'd be in for a treat. Using it as your only sampler should be a word of warning because it's not for beginners looking for their first sampler unless they are willing to master it.
Notable songs made using the ASR X are Young Jeezy's "Go Crazy" and Freeway's "Roc The Mic".
PROS: 1) Amazing sound! Even though it's different than it's older siblings its sound is hifi and expensive sounding.
2) Smaller than its predecessors and has more than double the tracks of the others (16 total).
3) Effects are excellent and resampling through the machine is a breeze.
4) Resonant Filters are came back
CONS: 1) It's basically unfinished due to Ensoniq being merged and never utilized its full potential.
2) The encoders can get wonky over time and the pads leave much to be desired. They honestly are my least favorite thing about the machine.
3) Way more menu diving since screen is smaller than previous models.

If you're looking to add a vintage sampler into your setup in 2023 and already have something like a DAW or the MPC line of sequencers then an Ensoniq sampler can be a real gem in your studio. Be aware that they all have a learning curve so you will have to put some time in to get comfortable with the sampler. On top of that once you fully master the machine you'll see why these masterpieces are highly regarded. There are features still today that can't do what these beats can do i.e. insane looping and modulation features. Maybe even one day they might reach astronomical prices because people will soon realize their value. But as for right now you can still find great deals of you look hard enough.
Also remember these are samplers first so the added bonus is getting a cool sampling synthesizer to make really nice patches you can transfer to your DAW as well. The modulation on these things are abundant and very useful.
I hope this may help someone in the future who is looking to buy their first Ensoniq sampler. Create the music you love and share it with the world 🌎

2023.03.22 03:19 Ok-Goose-6320 Looking for advice on webnovel sites for fantasy serials
I've been looking at a lot of threads and forums, and am almost more confused than when I started. I was thinking of a classic high fantasy series of short stories, and wondered about somewhere I could upload it as a serial.
It sounds like Royal Road is the best, though some people claimed only Progressive Fantasy does well there. Not sure where is better, if so. The people might've been exaggerating. Some claim you don't make much.
As for the others, to briefly summarize what I heard: Tapas is apparently only good for comics, Wattpad is Twilight with zero feedback and nearly no prospects, Webnovel is plagiarism and ProgFant with exploitation, and all the others are mostly literary porn sites? There's like 20 options or something, and mostly it seems like Royal Road is the only decent one.
It's also been suggested one should always just post to all available sites, and see what clicks.
But some more info I heard about Wattpad, that seems to apply to these sites in general.... If I ever do want to traditionally publish a story, this'd mess that up since I'd lose first publication rights? Seems like it'd cut down my options. Not sure if it's actually a great form of exposure.
Feeling generally discouraged about the whole idea. Thought I'd ask what people more knowledgeable about this what they think.

2023.03.22 02:22 black_cat_ MUSIC VIDEOS to Watch With my Five-Year-Old Daughter
Greetings all!
Every night my daughter and I watch music videos as part of her bedtime routine (yes, I know that screens aren't great before bed... but 5 minutes never hurt, right???)... I am a huge music lover and classic rock fan, but I've never really watched music videos before so I'm not sure which videos are A) interesting and B) child appropriate.
So I'm looking for some suggestions for classic rock music videos without vulgarity, swearing, violence, drugs, sexual scenes, scary scenes, or any sort of off-colour adult themes that I can share with my five year old.
To give some examples, these are some of the ones we watch together:
Pink Floyd - Learning to fly Tears for Fears - head over heels Tears for Fears - Everybody wants to rule the world Joni Mitchell (live) - Big Yellow Taxi Neil Young (live) - Four Strong Winds Some Beatles stuff (Penny Lane, blackbird) Nirvana (unplugged) - The man who sold the world Talking Heads - once in a lifetime Van Halen - Jump Aha - Take on Me
Any female artists are a plus!
