Double Platinum
After platinuming the PS4 version I was pretty upset to see that when I upgraded to a PS5 the trophies of the PS5 version were a separate set to achieve. So I embraced the challenge and got platinum on both versions! (Same save with just under 250hrs)

2023.05.30 19:23 Hal_Keaton [Totk] Thyphlo Ruins in Totk have some interesting implications

Obviously, this post will have some spoilers for a questline, so please read at your own risk.
I wanted to discuss Thyphlo Ruins with others people because I find them fascinating, and they are also somewhat connected to the Sage Temple Ruins at well. The existence of Thyphlo Ruins has some interesting implications for other ruins found in Hyrule.
Now before digging into the meat of this game, I had previously assumed that any Zonai-looking ruins were the last remains of the Zonai culture before the Imprisoning War.
However, Thyphlo Ruins challenges this notion.
The tale of this particular questline actually begins in the Sage Temple Ruins, where a new cave has opened to reveal the basement parts of these ruins. These ruins look very similar to the current architecture of Hyrule, rather than the Zonai-looking ruins we see in Faron or in the sky. In other words, they functionally look no different from the ruins of the garrisons or outposts we can find littered across Hyrule.
There, a stone tablet, written in modern Hyrulean, says:
A sword was enshrined in this temple to honor the sages. It was moved to Thyphlo, north of the Great Forest of Hyrule
This weapon, as it turns out, is the Dusk Claymore. The Dusk Claymore is the Sword of the Six Sages from BotW, renamed. The description for this sword has also changed. In BotW, it was:
The Six Sages are said to have forged this longsword to seal a demon king in the world where the hero fought against the beasts of twilight. The blade shines with a holy luster.
But in Totk, it is:
A slender claymore thought to have been handed down to the kingdom of Hyrule ages ago. The blade shines with a holy luster.
We also need to take another detour about the written language in this game. There is "modern Hyrulean", "ancient Hyrulean", and then the Zonai script.
The Zonai script is what we can see in the Ring Ruins, and they are different from ancient Hyrulean, as explained by Wortworth, one of the few researchers who can somewhat read the ancient text. As he explains:
Wortworth: "It's the same Hyrulean script, and yet it's so different from our modern language.
And by ancient Hyrulean, I don't mean the text found in the Ring Ruins, but something different.
It's what we call the language used at the time of Hyrule's founding. Our modern language is built on that foundation.
These books here are written in that ancient tongue. They'd look like gibberish to your average Hyrulean.
Basically, the current written script uses the same script as the written language of the founding days of Hyrule. However, because the language has since changed over time, the modern way of writing the text makes the ancient text look like gibberish. It would be like if I ddensly epty ikle this. ("suddenly type like"). Although I think I read ancient Hyrulean is meant to be written as if it was old English, instead of modern English.
It's the script that is used by the chamberlain from the ancient past, who described the daily lives of Princess Zelda, Rauru, and Sonia on those twelve stone tablets you have to find in the sky. Link is unable to read it himself, but Wortsworth (kinda) can.
[Side note, if the language was meant to be different then, then I'm not sure how Zelda was able to understand the ancient people so easily. I guess only their writing was different?]
However, this is not the case with the text found in the Sage Temple or the Thyphlo Ruins, which is perfectly readable by Link. This is also explained by Kazul, the researcher stationed there, who is surprised himself that modern Hyrulean is written in the ruins of the Thyphlo Ruins.
This quest requires that you have 4 of the 5 Sages to continue it to completion: Sage of Water, Sage of Lightning, Sage of Fire, and Sage of Wind. Once you have them, you can do the puzzling of the ruins to unlock the Dusk Claymore and the secrets of the ruins.
Inside the ruins, this is what it has to say:
A Monument to Loyalty
Hyrule owes its peace today to the gift that King Rauru gave unto us in his noble feat of imprisoning the Demon King.
The great battle, ended with a seal, began with support from the sages, each of whom bore a shining, secret stone.
Among these were four Hyruleans, loyal warriors all, who hastened to King Rauru's aid as their oaths demanded.
They are the pride of the peoples of Hyrule. This stone monument is dedicated to the loyalty that will echo through time.
Outside the ruins, you can also find seven "spots" (six surrounding one in the center), clearly representing the Six Sages and King Rauru. As Kazul puts it:
Kazul: "This ruin is dedicated to the sages who fought with Rauru, the first king of Hyrule. It was built by Hylians afterward! That explains why there was Hyrulean text on the monoliths we found.
This revelation has a lot of implications for the worldbuilding. It proposes:
  1. Not all the ruins of Zonai architecture found on the Surface is from Rauru's reign or older. Some are younger.
  2. The Sage Temple Ruins are likely older than Thyphlo Ruins, since the sword was taken from there and enshrined in Thyphlo later.
  3. This also means the days of young Hyrule saw a mixture of Zonai architecture and the architecture we see around Hyrule now.
  4. This might also imply that the Dusk Claymore is older than the Kingdom of Hyrule, as it was seemingly moved not long after the Imprisoning War. This assumes, of course, that the existence of the sword as it is in the game is meant to be taken as canon. There could be some debate on this topic, however.
Some arguments that could be made against these conclusions:
  1. The use of the modern Hyrulean might imply quite some time has passed between the building of the Sage Temple, then the Thyphlo Ruins after, allowing time for the language to evolve during that time.
  2. "Modern" Hyruleans might have merely repurposed old ruins, and Kazul came to the wrong conclusion about the ruins being built after the Imprisoning War. The existence of the 7 spots outside the ruins suggest otherwise, however.
  3. One could argue this is all just a fun side quest for a legacy weapon and really bears no meaning on the story or lore. Or, the sword itself is no longer meant to reference the Six Sages from TP, and now has a new existence with a different history.
By the way, if you do not know what the modern Hyrulean text in Botw/Totk is meant to look like, here is a link) to the lists of written Hylian found across the games.
In the older games, like OoT and WW, the written text was based off Japanese, but TP changed it to be based of English and so far it has stayed that way. There are some pretty big differences between the older written texts, but SS, LBW, TFH, BotW, and TotK feature very similar texts across the board. The SS script is not identical to the LBW/TFH/BotW/TotK text, but a lot of characters strike a similar appearance, if they are not identical already.
By the way, fun fact, but you can also see the Gerudo script in Totk as well, and it is the same script from OoT. The Gerudo script is and always has been based off English. Modern Gerudo can read older texts perfectly fine. Link also seems capable of reading Gerudo as well, since he can read the signs across town (unless the Gerudo use both Gerudo text and Hyrulean text and we just can't tell).
Personally, I don't think the actual visual looks of the texts mean much in terms of lore, considering how radically they have changed over the years. But that is just my own opinion.
Anything more to add or did I miss something? Let's discuss! Dissecting lore is always fun!

2023.05.30 18:59 Zanitar405 Suggestions for low-profile budget gaming laptop for college?

Does anyone know of a decent gaming laptop for college? I was hoping for something that's not too heavy and bulky, and is not flashy-looking (kind of like the MSI Stealth). Here are the things I want in a laptop:
I am not asking for the best laptop, I just want one that's decent enough to be reliable for both school and some light gaming. I don't really have much time to game, so I'm not looking for a machine that would give me a spectacular gaming experience either.
I would love any suggestions in this matter, including what time of the year would be best to buy one. I'm currently looking at Dell's G16, but Im not sure how good it is, given how it's using the 3060 for its GPU.

2023.05.30 18:56 mystery_elmo I just met a maiden in Elden Ring and its not Melina ps4

So I met a girl talking about sacrificing herself to a spider to become grafted around Storm Hill in one of the 2 shacks. No way will I let her do it especially if it's the grafted scion who killed me in the early game. How do I find him or it? I search the wiki but I haven't unlocked more than two map fragments and several sites of graces all over. I need my revenge and I don't want anything to happen to the girl, she gave me a jellyfish summons 😞😔😊😜

2023.05.30 18:50 Disastrous-Owl- Pc 250-300k (including peripheral)

I will be needing everything including peripherals (monitor, keyboard and mouse)
The new (not older than 5 years) and ongoing games I intend to play are: Elden Ring Destiny 2 Rdr2 Star wars jedi survivor
My preferred resolution and fps for all games except star wars (as I know its a more demanding game) would be 1440p and 100-120hz (I do not know if its reasonable to expect in my budget). I am honestly fine with 1080p 120hz to if that's all I budget allows.
I want to upgrade my ps4 and also need to upgrade my work laptop therefore I was thinking about getting a pc built by combining my budget for both.
My reason for getting a pc is so that I don't have to spend 18-20k on os plus for online play and 18-22k per game for ps4.

2023.05.30 18:47 elohel888 [Landlord - US - MO] Tenant damaged house but noted prior damage on move-in checklist

When our tenants moved in, we provided them with a move-in checklist to note any prior damage. On the checklist, it said to send it back within 5 days of move-in.
Our tenants sent it back almost a month later. I signed it, but noted on my signature that it was a month late. I only signed it because they listed some minor damages that I already knew about and nothing was of concern to me.
On a later walkthrough, I noticed the damages they had noted were far worse than the move-in condition. For example, they noted a small rust-colored stain on our carpet in one room. There had been a quarter-sized stain in that room. Now there are two ~6" stains on the carpet, almost assuredly from their dog, that have ruined the carpet in that room. Another example would be a stain on our granite counters - we had some small, mostly inconspicuous stains on the counters that I had assumed they were documenting. When I looked back at the counters, I noticed they had imprinted two very prominent ring stains from cups that have essentially necessitated replacing our contertops due to how large/apparent they are.
In hindsight, I should have asked for pictures prior to signing the doc since they were a month late in returning it. They moved out and I'm doing the final walkthrough tomorrow - can I still act on charging them for this, or is it too late since they noted non-specific damages on the move-in checklist that I signed, even though I noted that it was well past the move-in date?

2023.05.30 18:31 DietrichVanMeier 23 M Europe - History and Literature Enthusiast

Hi. I'm looking to talk to new people, maybe make a friend
They are:
History, especially the 19th-20th century but with more broad and general knowedge in other time periods. I'm not an expert or anything but I am pretty passionate about it and tend to read/listen about one event or the other on a pretty regular basis.
Literature, especially old novels. I recently read Demian (my all time favourite book), Day of the Oprichnik, Heart of Darkness, the Perfume and Little Prince. Currently started reading Blood Meridian. Some of my other favourite works would include: "The Picture of Dorian Gray", "Faust part I" (need to get to part II) and "No Longer Human". I also like to write short stories and book reviews. I'd also really like to read the same book with someone and discuss it. For reference my next book will probably be Oliver Twist
Languages. I know three, with one being a bit rusty. I'm currently working to scrape off the rust and then when I'm finished with that will begin to learn a fourth language. It's fun to go through different works in multiple languages. For example, I read the aforementioned Faust part I in all three.
Games. I recently played Cyberpunk 2077. Now that the dust has settled and the bugs mostly removed...It's not that bad! The main questline at least, Fallout 76 (Very average, I'm dissapointed with what they made the "RPG" system) and will try out Deus Ex Manking Divided again ( Got inspired since it's somewhat similar to Cyberpunk). I was waiting to play Elden Ring but it ended being too stressful for me. Go here and get beaten up go there and get beaten up, repeat...Besides that I'm a big fan of Paradox strategy games...like EU IV and HoI IV (also thinking of making my own project for HoI IV). I am definitely looking forward to try out Victoria III, after they add more content to it. I also got Modern Warfare 2, since the first MW had great multiplayer gameplay.
Anime and Manga. In recent times my interest has waned but I still watch the occasional series here and there. Like Cyberpunk Edgerunners (Which I found to be rather mediocre) and the very good new season of Bleach. Some other favourites include: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Death Note, Fate;Zero, Psycho Pass , Higurashi (season 2 is a bit weak but the first one is a masterpiece of horror), Code Geass, Attack on Titan and others. My favourite Manga is Berserk...I hope it gets a good ending..the first couple of new chapters were...a bit rough but the new author seems to have got his footing.
Anyway, that should be enough information to give you a good picture... Before I go, I would like to ask for you to include the title of the last book you read in your reply. A small request, I feel. I'll be ignoring those that don't.

2023.05.30 18:30 Biggest-Possum Dear Devs, I Liked The Old Crows Better!

Dear Devs,
What is with the crows in this game!?
I'm not here to complain about the difficulty of them as enemies, what I mean is that in previous titles we got cool crows like Sparkly, Snuggly, Dyna & Tillo, Ornifex or even Pickle-pee and Pump-a-rum. I loved those little feathered friends!
You're really telling me that all we get in Elden Ring is "Monstrous Crow"?
This is just something that I can't accept. You can take your monstrous crow and shove it! I don't even like them, and it's not like that's all you were limited to creatively, because Elden Ring has owls, eagles, hawks and all sorts of other birds. With all that, I'm seriously supposed to believe that the developers couldn't take a moment to give us a cute crow again?
I'm not even asking for much, almost all of the other crows in previous games are just a disembodied voice in an empty nest! Just toss down a little nest and throw in some voice lines for us! You can slip it into the next DLC, and we can all be cool about it! We'll just pretend like it never happened and move on as if you didn't forget the absolutely most important part of the series.
If any devs with Fromsoft are reading this, please give us back the cute crows. You made a wonderful game, but you forgot the crows. (The right ones. Not the scary ones.)
P.S. Thanks for making sure we got another giant blacksmith. No thanks for letting him die again. Monsters, the lot of you. We just truly can't have nice things in the lands between.
Sincerely,
A guy who wants his crows back

A great reminder on the various dreams of the Straw Hats, and some very solid anime filler content with an ever increasing production quality - Manga reader's first impressions on the anime - Zou Saga

Summary/TL;DR

I occasionally see the criticism pop up that since the timeskip, many of the Straw Hats dreams have gone somewhat underdeveloped unless it is one of the ones that is constantly developed every arc (Luffy becoming Pirate King, Zoro becoming the World's Strongest Swordsman, etc.). I feel like the Zou Arc really fights back against that criticism. Even while being the least controversial post time skip arc (and an arc that was always beloved since it came out), I feel like it's still a little underappreciated how many great endgame Straw Hat moments were had in this arc in reference to the development of their dreams. I also think the uptick of the anime's quality continues to show itself more and more, with great anime filler and an even better movie in Film: Gold.

Zou Saga

Foreword

I've been reading the manga weekly since Zou, but I've been trying to watch every piece of animated One Piece content before catching up to see how the anime has developed over time. My interest in how the current anime is being used and incorporating a bunch of stuff that isn't in the manga with a much higher quality level made me want to watch weekly, but I didn't want to just jump into the current anime. So I'm watching everything; movies, filler, specials, basically anything that's on MyAnimeList and that I can find online. Been an enjoyable experience, which you can read about in the previous threads:
Very quick watch for Zou, but some solid content there.
Also if anybody is curious why this is only about Zou it's because I'm using the official list from Library of Ohara based on Shueisha's official breakdown. I like this breakout more because stuff like the Reverie gets included in one big Whole Cake Island arc with the countries coming together at the beginning and meeting at the end, which makes sense to me (similar to how the in between Acts in Wano are still part of the arc). As well as other various reasons.
Also this post would have approximately 900 entries if Zou, Whole Cake, and Wano were together. Cool? Cool.

Anime Arcs

Silver Mine

Bartolomeo living the dream getting a filler arc with his idol
Apparently every filler villain in this series wants to be Akainu. This time it's smelting powers instead of heat, but with the same results. There was nothing incredibly bad in this arc, but I legit forgot plot points of it after a few episodes. Zoro brought up that he wanted to get revenge for something, and if they didn't throw in the flashback of the thing he was mad about from the first episode I would have been completely lost. And that's about the level of quality in this whole arc. Still not the worst arc cause Bartolomeo was really fun, but stuff with him was the only real saving grace imo.
Zou

Again, love the ever growing relationship between Luffy and Lil Bro Momo
I've always been a big fan of Zou. It really feels like the entire story gets expanded for what will be the final stages, and there's a lot of big reveals as far as what the hell is next to come. That's not news though, I feel like Zou has always been the least controversial New World arc and everybody agrees it's pretty good. What stuck out to me going back through this is how many different Straw Hat dreams got some big moments, which I really liked. Chopper getting to save all the minks by making medicine was a nice moment for him, and I also really enjoyed him helping patch up Zunesha (more on that in a second). And Robin's excitement when presented with the Road Poneglyph and finding out what it meant, just a really happy experience. It's the happiest I can remember her when finding a Poneglyph since she found the one in Skypiea that made her realize it's not a lost dream. And Nami asking Inuarashi about what the Log Pose is pointing to and getting that affirmation that she's leading them on the right path, super cute moment. I feel like a lot of people criticize some of the Straw Hats with this idea that their dreams aren't really talked about much since the time skip, but to me this arc was really covering a bunch of those moments for them in really satisfying ways. Yeah we don't physically see Nami draw a map or anything like that, but we do get Robin giving her readings from the Poneglyph that can lead her down that path. I just really enjoyed all the little moments leading them on their individual dreams, especially for the more abstract ones like Chopper where none of us know how he's actually going to pull it off.
I also really enjoyed the filler episode right near the end of this arc. I brought up getting to see Chopper healing Zunesha, that was mostly done in the filler episode I'm referring to. Just really good canon filler that plugged up a lot of gaps from the manga. Carrot bribing the monkey so she could sneak on the ship, the minks all helping to make bandages for Zunesha's leg, Nami getting the map for Totto Land. One of those filler episodes where if somebody didn't tell you it was filler you'd have no clue, it just fit in perfectly. I feel like most of the filler in this arc was really well fitting, other than them randomly fighting bees for half an episode one time. Like I've been saying since the end of Dressrosa, if they do more filler like this then I really don't have an issue with the page count. I think content matters more than the amount of pages covered, and this was for the most part really good content.
As far as the story itself, the setup for Wano was great. Love seeing Momo really come into his own; he's turned into a great character in Wano and it really started around this moment here when he allies with Luffy. And the Raizo is Safe moment was really good, loved the adaptation. The music in the moment sounded very Wano/Japanese themed, which fit the moment. And frankly all of the music in this arc was great. You can always tell when one of these 200+ episode animes just got a new OST, because you start hearing new music super often. But no complaints there.

Specials

One Piece: Heart of Gold

I swear this was integral to the plot. Don't fact check.
I just did not get into this one. The villain was pretty underwhelming (although I did like Zoro and Sanji's fights). And while I get it's filler so logic is somewhat out the window, the logic of this special goes super out the window. For example there's a part where Brook is needed to play the piano with very specific notes or he'll get shot with arrows. And he keeps messing up because there's a bit of the last page missing. And despite the fact that arrows pretty much do nothing to him, we instead get Robin and Chopper protecting him. Who for some reason are totally fine to use their Devil Fruits, which made me realize they're not even in Seastone cuffs but are for some reason just going along with everything. It took me until that point of the movie to even realize that. And I bring that up to talk about the next test they had, where they needed to use keys and had to find the right keyhole out of 17 (16 electrocute you, 1 doesn't). For some reason this is Nami's job, and Brook, Chopper, and Usopp have to hold the whole thing open so they don't get crushed. But if the electrocution doesn't kill you, and you're allowed to use devil fruits, why are they not using the person who can literally sprout clones and body parts? Obviously she'd still get hurt because she feels pain from the clones, but it makes way more sense than having almost half the crew crushed to death.
Again, it's a filler special episode so why am I even ranting about this. But stuff like that made me realize that the plot makes no sense and that it took me that long into the movie to realize it makes no sense. The CP0 stuff was kinda interesting albeit they make them kinda look like scrubs, the Celestial Dragon stuff was fine too. And Chopper continues his reign as the greatest plug in One Piece, because he apparently just carries around every drug necessary with zero prep time. Also whoever animated this did it with one hand down their pants when they drew the Nami and Robin stuff. So kudos to them.
Wasn't a bad special, just kinda boring.

Movies

One Piece Film: Gold

Nice to see Nami finally get to shine in a movie.
WOW. What an amazing movie. There were just so many things to love about this one. Where to start.
I'm always a fan of getting some unusual Straw Hat duos/trios. The usual groups are fun, don't get me wrong. But it's always nice to mix it up since they're such a big group. So having Franky running alone with Luffy for half the movie, I was a big fan of that. That's just not a usual pairing that happens, and the resulting dynamic from that was really cool.
I also enjoy when a movie villain doesn't feel unusually OP just for the sake of making the plot work, or like they're nerfing the main cast to make it a conflict. That's something that happens with a lot of shonen movies because they need the villain to be strong for an hour or so to make it work. When they revealed early into the movie that the gold confetti raining down actually makes it so Tesoro can control everything, I was in shock. It's a good plot device to neutralize the good guys that doesn't feel contrived, and it's also just really fucking smart. It immediately made Tesoro feel like a genuine threat.
And speaking of Tesoro, what a great villain. His backstory was crazy. The Celestial Dragon stuff is always a good way to get under the audience's skin, but the fact that he was a slave too and basically took the Sun Pirates approach of covering it? Huge surprise, not what I was expecting at all.
Also enjoyed Nami finally getting to fully participate in a movie. Her relationship with Carina was really cool, but the main thing that I liked was that she finally gets to play a big role in a movie. I wouldn't define her role in the last few movies as a damsel in distress. But it did kinda suck to see Nami taken out of the past few movies fairly early, where she doesn't get to play out a role like everybody else. Whether that's her being changed to a little kid or her getting kidnapped by Shiki in the first few minutes. This time Zoro gets to be the one separated from the crew, but you know Zoro will always get his moment eventually so it was fine. Again, just another really unique thing about this movie compared to the other ones.
This was just a really fun heist style movie, even with the typical planning montage. Very fun watch.

OVAs

One Piece Film: Gold Episode 0

Subtle.
Speaking of animating with a hand down their pants, this was animated with the pen in their mouth. I guess these OVAs are all just going to be an excuse to show Nami and Robin half naked as many times as possible. In which case I say thank you. Also I knew Nami and Robin ran an elaborate gambling ring on the ship, I called that.
Fun short little video leading into the movie, like the Glorious Island one. We've upgraded from swimming to having the girls bouncing around playing volleyball. I look forward to the next one where they mud wrestle.

Actually a really well animated video for what is essentially just a company logo promo. Very cool art.

2023.05.30 18:17 AegyoEdgeLord Did I accidentally screw up my game by skipping a main quest?

My favorite thing about open world games is exploring so obviously that's what I was doing, kinda procrastinating the story. But I accidentally got Mineru before I even finished the regional phenomena and now I can't get in the ring ruins? Is there a way to fix this or trigger that quest anyway? I'm also missing a memory and I feel like it's part of that. Am I just screwed?
