2023.05.31 03:00 Eddtheartist16 Sachiko "Sonic" Hakuta Character Bio (This is an OC inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog)
Name: Sachiko “Sonic” Hakuta
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Birthday: June 23
Quirk: Sonic Speed
Appearance: Sonic is of average height and has an athletic build. She has an olive skin tone, spiky blue hair, piercing green eyes, and a smile that can range from friendly to cocky. For her regular outfit, she wears a beige shirt that has the word “Speed” on it in big bold blue letters, over her beige shirt she wears a cobalt blue bomber jacket that fits perfectly on her and plain white fingerless gloves. For the bottom half of her outfit, she wears soft cobalt blue sweatpants, white socks, and red high-top Nike shoes with white laces and yellow-colored soles.
Personality: Sachiko is a complex and multifaceted individual, with both strengths and weaknesses that make her unique. On one hand, she can come off as a loudmouth, cocky, rebellious, impulsive, petty, and impatient. She's a thrill seeker who enjoys pushing herself to the limits, and she's always up for a challenge.
However, beneath her tough exterior, Sachiko is also a loyal, brave, and heroic individual who will stop at nothing to protect her friends and loved ones. She's quick thinking, introspective, and always willing to learn from her mistakes. She has a kind and compassionate heart, and she genuinely cares about the people around her.
Sachiko is a charismatic individual who can easily win people over with her bold and confident personality. However, her recklessness and impulsive nature can sometimes lead her into dangerous or unpredictable situations. Despite this, she's resourceful and able to come up with innovative solutions to problems, even in high-pressure situations.
Sachiko's carefree and easygoing nature makes her enjoy games, jokes, and other forms of lighthearted fun. At the same time, her perceptiveness and a keen eye for detail allow her to pick up on subtle cues and clues that others might miss. All in all, Sachiko is a dynamic and interesting individual with a lot of potential for growth and development throughout her journey at UA.
Hero outfit: Sachiko's hero outfit is a combination of practicality and flashiness, designed to help her channel her Sonic-inspired powers to the fullest. Her outfit is primarily composed of sleek blue and white armor, with red accents that match her high-top Nike shoes.
To help her move at superspeed, Sachiko's shoes are customized with special materials that can withstand the intense friction and heat generated by her powers. They are fitted with white, silver, and red accents that give them a futuristic look, and they have a specialized sole that helps her maintain her grip on any surface.
Her hi-tech glasses are designed to protect her eyes from debris and wind resistance, which can be hazardous at high speeds. The lenses are made of durable and scratch-resistant materials, and they have a sleek silver frame that complements her armor.
Sachiko's energy supplements are compact and easy to carry, providing her with the boost she needs to run longer and faster. They are contained in a small pouch attached to her waistband, with the pouch designed to blend seamlessly with her armor.
Overall, Sachiko's hero outfit is designed to be both functional and eye-catching, with a nod to her Sonic-inspired powers. It's a perfect representation of her personality and abilities, allowing her to tackle any challenge that comes her way with style and confidence.
Quirk: Sachiko's quirk is called Sonic Speed, and it allows her to move at superhuman velocities that far exceed those of any other person. She can run, jump, and move at a speed that makes her seem like a blur to the naked eye, with agility and reflexes that match her speed.
At her maximum speed, Sachiko can move at an incredible Mach 3, which is roughly 2,300 miles per hour. This allows her to run across vast distances in seconds, dodge attacks with ease, and deliver incredibly powerful blows to her enemies.
However, such incredible speed comes with its drawbacks. Sachiko's body generates an immense amount of heat when she moves at high speeds, which can cause her to overheat and become exhausted if she exerts herself too much.
Additionally, her powers make her less effective in close combat, as her high speed can make it difficult for her to maintain her balance and land blows accurately.
Despite these drawbacks, Sachiko's Sonic Speed has many creative applications. She can use her speed to create sonic booms that disorient and damage her enemies, run up walls and across ceilings, and even create cyclones with her movements. Also, she can run on walls and across water, and can even use her momentum to generate powerful kicks and punches.
Sachiko is aware of the untapped potential of her quirk, and she holds back on purpose during battles to make them more challenging and interesting. She enjoys pushing herself to the limit and exploring new ways to use her powers creatively. She is always looking for new ways to improve her abilities and become an even better hero.
In short, Sachiko's Sonic Speed quirk is a powerful and versatile ability that allows her to move at incredible speeds and perform amazing feats of agility and strength. With practice and training, she has the potential to unlock even more untapped potential, and she is always striving to become a stronger, more effective hero.
Background: Sachiko was born into a family of superheroes. Her parents were both well-known heroes, with her mother possessing the power of flight and her father possessing super strength. Growing up, Sachiko was constantly surrounded by talk of heroism and the responsibilities that came with having a quirk. Despite their high expectations for her, Sachiko struggled to find her place in the world of heroism. Her parents' shadow loomed over her, and she felt that she would never be able to measure up to their legacy.
However, everything changed for Sachiko when she discovered her love for speed. She realized that her quirk, Sonic Speed, was not just a tool for transportation but could also be used to save lives and fight crime. She started practicing with her speed, pushing herself to see just how fast she could go. Her parents were initially hesitant about her new passion, fearing for her safety, but they eventually came around when they saw the determination in her eyes.
Sachiko enrolled at UA High School to hone her skills and become the hero she always knew she could be. She quickly became known as the fastest student in Class 1-A, impressing her peers and teachers alike with her speed and quick thinking. However, Sachiko held back in battles, preferring to make her fights last longer and be more challenging. She knew that if she went all-out, her fights would be over too quickly, and she didn't want to disappoint anyone. She was always looking for ways to improve and to find new ways to use her quirk.
Despite the pressure of her parents' legacy and the expectations placed on her as a hero, Sachiko remained true to herself. She was independent, creative, and always willing to help those in need. She knew that being a hero wasn't just about having a powerful quirk but also about having a strong moral compass and a desire to make the world a better place. Sachiko was determined to use her quirk to do just that.
Strengths:
- Superspeed: Sachiko's quirk, Sonic Speed, is incredibly powerful and allows her to move at lightning-fast speeds. This makes her an excellent asset in battles and allows her to quickly come to the aid of those in need.
- Quick thinking: Sachiko's superspeed requires her to be quick on her feet both physically and mentally. She is able to think and react quickly, making her a formidable opponent in battles.
- Courageous: Sachiko has a strong sense of justice and a desire to protect those around her. She is not afraid to put herself in harm's way if it means saving others.
- Loyal: Sachiko values her friendships and relationships deeply. She is fiercely loyal to those she cares about and will go to great lengths to protect them.
- Creativity: Sachiko is always looking for new ways to use her quirk and find solutions to problems. She is a creative thinker and is not afraid to try out new approaches.
- Independent: Sachiko is confident in her abilities and does not rely on others to get things done. She is self-sufficient and can handle challenges on her own.
- Adaptable: Sachiko is able to adjust quickly to changing circumstances and can think on her feet. She is not thrown off by unexpected challenges and can adapt to new situations easily.
Weaknesses:
- Overconfidence: Sachiko's cocky and impulsive nature can sometimes make her overestimate her abilities. This can lead her to make careless mistakes or underestimate her opponents.
- Impatience: Sachiko's desire to be constantly moving can sometimes lead to impatience and a lack of focus. This can be a weakness in battles where strategy and patience are necessary.
- Stamina: Sachiko's quirk, Sonic Speed, requires a lot of physical energy and can quickly tire her out. If she uses her quirk too much, she can become fatigued and less effective in battles.
- Vulnerability: Sachiko's superspeed makes her vulnerable to attacks that can catch her off guard. If her opponents can slow her down or find ways to trap her, she can be at a disadvantage.
- Dependence on her quirk: Sachiko's reliance on her quirk can sometimes lead her to neglect other aspects of her training. This can make her less effective in battles where she can't rely solely on her speed.
- Emotional impulsiveness: Sachiko's emotions can sometimes get the best of her, leading her to act impulsively or recklessly. This can make her unpredictable in battles and lead her to make risky decisions.
- Stubbornness: Sachiko's determination and independence can sometimes make her stubborn. She can be resistant to new ideas or approaches, which can limit her potential for growth and development.
Hobbies:
Running: As someone with superhuman speed, Sachiko loves to run and challenge herself to go faster and farther. Whether it's for exercise or just for fun, Sachiko enjoys pushing her limits and seeing just how fast she can go.
Music: Sachiko has a love for music, and can often be found listening to her favorite bands or playing her guitar. Music is a way for her to relax and unwind after a long day, or to get pumped up and ready for battles.
Gaming: Sachiko is a big fan of video games and enjoys exploring virtual worlds, especially those that are fast-paced and action-packed. She also enjoys playing games with her friends and family.
Exploring: Sachiko's adventurous spirit leads her to enjoy exploring new places, both in her local neighborhood and on school trips. She loves to discover new sights, sounds, and experiences.
Martial Arts: Given Sachiko's desire to become a hero, she has also taken up martial arts training to help improve her combat skills. She enjoys learning new techniques and mastering different forms of martial arts.
Fashion: Sachiko has a keen eye for fashion and enjoys creating unique outfits to wear, both in her daily life and as a hero. She likes to experiment with different colors, patterns, and styles and takes pride in her appearance.
Eating: Sachiko's high metabolism from her quirk means she enjoys eating a lot and trying new foods. She loves to sample different cuisines and flavors and is always up for a food challenge.
Skateboarding: Sachiko is also an avid skateboarder, enjoying the feeling of cruising around on her board and performing cool tricks and stunts. Skateboarding gives her an additional mode of transportation outside of running and provides a fun and exciting way to stay active and challenge herself.
Family: Sachiko's family has a long history of heroism and is known throughout the hero community for their bravery and dedication to protecting others. Her parents are both retired heroes, and her older brother, Toshiro, is currently a pro hero. They are a close-knit family who value each other's opinions and support one another.
Sachiko's mother, Akira, was known as "The Sky Guardian" during her hero days. She possessed the ability to fly at incredible speeds and was instrumental in rescuing civilians during natural disasters. Despite her mother's impressive powers, Akira was always kind and nurturing towards her daughter, encouraging her to follow her own path and not feel pressured to live up to her parent's expectations.
Sachiko's father, Hiroshi, was known as "The Colossus" and was one of the strongest heroes of his time. He possessed immense strength and durability, making him a formidable opponent in battles. He was also known for his kindness and humility, often putting others before himself.
Sachiko's older brother, Toshiro, is a pro hero known as "Thunderbolt." He possesses the ability to control electricity and uses it to subdue villains and protect civilians. Despite being an accomplished hero, Toshiro is supportive of his younger sister and encourages her to follow her own path.
Overall, Sachiko's family is a loving and supportive one, with a strong tradition of heroism that has inspired Sachiko to become the hero she is today.
Sachiko’s Class 1A friends: Sachiko's friendship with her Class 1A friends is important to her, as they are the first group of peers she has ever had who understand the challenges of being a hero. She feels comfortable around them and enjoys spending time with them both in and out of class.
With Deku, Sachiko enjoys discussing different hero techniques and strategies. She is always impressed by his analytical mind and his determination to become a great hero, and she often encourages him to keep pushing himself.
Uraraka is one of Sachiko's closest friends in Class 1A. They share a love of food and often go out to try new restaurants and cafes together. Sachiko also admires Uraraka's fighting spirit and her ability to find creative ways to use her quirk.

Sero is someone Sachiko enjoys sparring with, as she appreciates his creativity and resourcefulness in battle. They often trade tips and tricks for using their quirks to gain the upper hand in combat.

2023.05.31 02:49 SpectroPyro I mean…why swipe right if you’re going to be rude?
| I’m recently back in the dating world after a long term relationship. I try to avoid generic introductions and topics ( “hey” “hey” “how are you?” “Fine”). He posted on his profile that he loves cars and, didn’t just link his IG, but specifically wrote in his profile to check it out, so I did. On it, he had more pictures and videos of cars, some of which he’s riding/posing with. His response shocked me. I thought really hard about calmly explaining that I was trying to initiate a conversation that he would be interested in. But I decided it didn’t matter and just unmatched on the spot. It’s nice to be back to OLD. 🥲 submitted by SpectroPyro to Tinder [link] [comments] |
2023.05.31 02:48 Hammarkids Is it wrong if my dad and I privately simp for hot girls that we see in the gym?
We never stare, never talk to them unless asking if they’re done with equipment, we give them all the space in the world and they never know we are there, but once we get into the car we often go
“did you see that one blonde girl on the treadmill?” “Yeah, she’s hot! She’s in better shape then I am!”
Is this wrong?

2023.05.31 02:44 Fire-Dragon-DoL Activities and weather 4 days in Courtenay with family, suggestions?
Hi, I have the opportunity, in September, to be in Courtenay on Vancouver Island. I will have a car (minivan) available but my 2 years old and my 5 years old will be with me.
The 2 years old is the limiting factor, as we cannot do most activities (the world starts at 3 years old based on our experience).
- What are some activities we could do during this holiday?
- What beaches should we go at?
- Is there a sand beach where they could play all day?
- How's the weather in September?

2023.05.31 02:43 godihatepeople USJ tips to enter Nintendo World/Harry Potter Land, and get on rides faster without an express pass.
I went to USJ a week or so ago on a Saturday and wanted to share some tips I got from my Japanese friend who goes frequently.
If you arrive before the official park opening time, you can almost always get entry into Nintendo World or Harry Potter Land without a timed entry or express pass if you beeline it to your preferred area after entry.
We got to the park bright and early on Saturday morning around... 07:20? There were already hundreds of people lined up. We'd already had our tickets purchased and the QRs ready to go (I bought on Klook and used my American credit card). We were able to skip the queue to buy tickets because of that, and went on to the next queue. Many people were sitting on the ground or eating onigiri, so we did too. They opened the gates early for people who were with a tour group or something first, then for everyone else. Hundreds of people literally sprinting or running to Mario Land. You didn't need to, though. We walked briskly and got in just fine and got onto the Yoshi ride with ZERO MINUTE wait time, then got on it a second time with almost no wait either! When we walked by the Mario Kart ride to get there, it was only a 20 minute wait.
You're probably only going to get Harry Potter or Mario, not both. We had timed entry for Harry later in the day, so we we still able to do both after all.
Here's the next big tip: If you tell the ride attendant you want to ride as a "Single Rider" ("Shingaru Raidaa") they will let you into another lane that is essentially the express lane.
When we were passing the Mario Kart ride, I told my friend we should get in that line now while it's so low. He replied, "NO I WANT YOSHI" so we did Yoshi. When we got back to the Mario Kart ride, it had jumped to a 75 minute wait. My friend told the attendant we were single riders and got put into a line in between the regular line and the express line and we passed SO MANY PEOPLE. I think we waited maybe 15 minutes before getting on the ride. The catch is that you will probably not sit with your group members when you go in the single rider lane, but jeez I didn't care too much about that. I'd rather do more rides and not wait in line!
We also did this with the Spider-Man ride, which is apparently to get wrecked out fairly soon, so ride it while you can! It's awesome and way more thrilling than it has any right to be! We waited maybe five minutes. I think we were put in the actual express lane. It took us longer to walk through the maze of rails that actually wait in line, AND the attendant sat us together on the car anyway!
Final tip: Line up for Chef Toad's Cafe (Kinopio's Cafe) by 10:30 to eat a a reasonable lunch time.
If you go early like we did, you'll get hungry early. And we wanted that sweet Mario-themed lunch. We waited longer for the cafe line than any other line. It was the better part of an hour, if not more. I got the carbonara which was delicious, but so rich. I was loathe to get a burger in Japan as an American, but in this case, that's what I'd recommend. My friend's burger was quite good. My other friend got the fire flower spaghetti, but we agreed my carbonara was better. It was still good though. We all split the pizza dip and it was pretty good and cute. I wish I went ahead and tried the mushroom soup, but I passed. As far as desserts go, we got the ? Block and the Goal Pole Cake. The Goal Pole Cake blew the ? Block Tiramisu out of the water on taste! The ? Block was very cute and novel, but the taste was meh. We should've gotten the Princess Peach cake to split, or the double chocolate cupcake. However, we were still very satisfied with our Chef Toad experience. The interior is very fun!
Well, that's all I got. I hope it will be helpful to anyone who plans on going.

2023.05.31 02:42 Seruborn Vivid fever dream of a talented, nonverbal homeless man. Please interpret if you are into that sort of thing.
scene
I pulled up to a parking lot at a park, having just spent the day, apparently my day off, playing basketball, skateboarding, and generally filling my day with things I enjoy. It's about 4:30 - 5:00 pm outside, and I proceeded to get out of my car and go for a walk in the park while sparking a joint.
As I get out there is a mid 30's brown haired, somewhat chubby, hippy dressed, red satchel wearing gentleman in a second, dirt parking lot in front of me, playing his guitar, singing, and dancing with some pretty decent talent. I spark my joint and watch, standing there, transfixed by his happiness. As I finish my joint and head out for my walk, he approaches me.
"Awesome bro!" I tell him, with a miniature applause. "I really enjoyed your performance!" I still had about a third of the joint left, so I handed it to him with the classic stoner 'Ere!, and asked him about himself.
Immediately, it became apparent that he wasn't really all there. His singing did not transfer to being able to formulate real speech, and he definitely seemed nonverbal. I tried to talk to him a while, but gave up eventually and went on my walk. The walk was a fast forward in dream time, but I remember watching the sun start to desend.
When I got back to the parking lot, I saw him on the sidewalk of the dirt lot, rocking and fiddling and stimming in a mad, autistic sort of way. Realizing he was homeless, I wanted to help him, but when I approached and asked him his name, and if I could get him some food or anything, he was completely unaware of the world around him. I tried for a bit but when I noticed he still had the joint as I had handed it to him, unsmoked and intact, I gave up and backed away.
As I started my car, I noticed his red satchel in the parking spot next to me, underneath the tire of another vehicle. I got out, picked it up and dusted it off. Heading over to return it to him, I was already getting emotional at the sad site of this man.
"Hey buddy," I said as I approached. "You dropped your bag!" I squatted in front of him and tried to hand it back, but he still didn't notice me. Try as I might to break him of his trance, he just wasn't in this world at the time. "I'm just going to set it down here next to you, okay? Don't forget it again! I'm sure it's important."
At this point night has fallen, and the moon is bright. I start to turn away before standing up, and as soon as my eyes are off of him I am startled to feel his hand snatch my wrist. I turn back in shock, and he is looking at me with a piercing gaze, tears in his eyes.
"Thank you." He says.
I immediately start to cry. Sobbing, I reach into my pocket saying, "Can I please show you something?" He nods, and as I pull out my phone to show him a picture of my real life 6 week old baby daughter, as I look at the phones screen...
scene
I woke up. With actual tears in my eyes, and still in the swings of a 1°-1.5° fever.
I have an instinctual interpretation of this, but I want to hear what other people say without influencing your interpretation.
Thanks for reading.

2023.05.31 02:41 TaranMatharu From Theory Updated - A game of Tarot between an accused witch and a Beothuk deity in Newfoundland during John Cabot's lost expedition of 1498.
| FROM is a game between an accused witch and a Beothuk demon, recreating an event during the Age of Exploration by John Cabot's lost expedition of 1498. The event ended before 1506 (Tabitha's tower’s earliest date). Other than the Vinland Vikings, Cabot is the only European to reach mainland America before then. Cabot's ships arriving / Tabitha's dream's dates The Origin Event: Cabot’s ship ( The Matthew) is marooned in Newfoundland (where Cabot had visited before, and was supposed to return to in 1498). The explorers shelter in the Vinland Viking ruins remaining there (The Church lodge and Stone Circle). They land in Boyd’s Cove (where most archaeological artefacts of the Beothuk have been found). They encounter the now tragically extinct native Beothuk people (who painted themselves in red ochres, as with the red stick figures in the cave paintings). The explorers wear Tudor clothing with ruffs, like Ellis’s mysterious painting. https://preview.redd.it/7h3ods6vm33b1.png?width=1194&format=png&auto=webp&s=7b277ea008061fbeeb3e10ad3f1b3bd9aa7a99c7 Cabot or one of his men bond with a woman who was smuggled aboard and they have a son (Mirrored by Fatima's pregnancy). As things get worse, this woman is accused of being a Witch at the explorer’s camp. The Witch Historically, it is undeniable that native Newfoundland Beothuk people suffered numerous atrocities at the hands of future settlers, and in similar fashion, the explorers may have attacked the Beothuk. The reason for the lack of bibles may be the attempted conversion of the Beothuk by the friar who accompanied Cabot. Starvation begins and Winter approaches, just as Fromland does in Season 2, with the food shortage and as with the trees changing in Fromland. The witch is imprisoned in a cave (the cave with the talismans) while crows circle above. Cabot keeps her son from her. The Witch's prison, where Boyd found the talismans / An adult and child Explorers that speak of mutiny have their tongues cut out (that, or blasphemy, another possible reason for tongue removal). The tongues are cooked in a stew (the cauldron with the tongues, Sarah cutting Toby’s tongue, Kevin’s tongue being bitten off), as the explorers turn to cannibalism. They might also be cooked worms, eaten due to starvation. The cauldrons Later, the explorers finish repairing their ships, and sail away, leaving the Witch trapped alone in the cave, the explorers too superstitious to bring or kill her. They leave her the game of Tarot (the only card game to exist in 1500, an exclusively Italian game at the time, brought by Cabot, an Italian). In despair, she calls out to any Gods who will listen. She is answered by the deities of the Beothuk. The Mythos: The long extinct Beothuk religion is only known from a fragment of text. The key aspects are worship of the Moon, the Sun, fear of a devilish Man in Black, a Spirit World and a Sea Monster, trees have souls, and birds carry the souls of the dead. Only a few hundred Beothuk words are known. The word for tree in Beothuk is “ Annoouee” and some native american languages insert a K to pluralise words. “ Annkoouee” means “the trees”. The Witch makes a deal or bet with the Beothuk demon/devil, the Man in Black for the return of her son. Cabot and the other explorers become the first of Fromland’s victims. The Man in Black has a “ Sea Monster” which the showrunners represent as a native Newfoundland Lion’s Mane Jellyfish which happens to be RED. (the location where the Viking ruins were found was called Jellyfish Cove). Red Jellyfish / Beothuk game-pieces / Cave painting pattern. The Game This deal/bet between the Witch and the Beothuk gods involves a game using the Tarot cards, but one with invented rules. The Witch, the boy and the explorers are all sucked into Fromland to play. Every member of Fromily is assigned a Tarot card to represent. Meagan's card game / Jade flashing a pack of cards for no reason / a person trapped in a card / the cards laid out and the people they represent More card game hints The Players: The game still requires four players, so the son is divided in two, creating a Moon version (Boy in White, two dogs on the moon Tarot card) and a Sun version. https://preview.redd.it/dk70omozn33b1.png?width=986&format=png&auto=webp&s=5d83e110eba8dbd3f1837cef5c850be1e9b3dd2b Here the suitcases and curtains lay out the mother and her twin boys and their respective colour-coding (moon = blue, sun = yellow, witch = pink). The twin smaller wheels, the split son, and the mother the large wheel. The flapping cloth, the tentacled representation of the Man in Black’s monster. The sculpture is an obvious clue. Above here, we see the four players, (clue highlighted by a book called Crumbs in the same scene): the cables the tentacular demon and his monster, the scarf is the mother (with the witch stick figure and the pink coding) and the headphones the black and white sides of the boy (the sun and the moon) The “witch” is kept apart from her son(s), (“I want to see my son!” Mr Tien, hearing voices in episode 1), and has some ulterior goal within the game to reunite her sons, as does the MiB. The two sides, with the yellow light (sun - trapped underground?) and unlit light (moon - above, free to roam?). A white vessel remains on the table, despite blocking the shot. That is a vessel to represent the mothewitch. The Rules: The witch and the devil appear to take turns picking people (who are about to die: drunk driver, (Jade, Donna), or by suicide (Khatri), or from disease (Tilly)) from the real world. Black tendrils picking cars off the road drawing This game is played on a game-board (see chequered shirts and floors everywhere, chess board references, and the squares on the cave painting). Both Witch and Devil appear to be influencing Fromily in one direction or another. The Devil with his worms on Sarah and Boyd (see Boyd dousing his torch the same way it is pointed down on the devil’s tarot card, and the chained man represented by Martin on the same card), and the Witch with her visions on Tabitha and Jade. Boyd is being spoken to by the Man in Black in the form of Khatri, who encourages him to protect Sara, and seems pretty smug when he thinks Boyd is about to succumb to the worms (and wears a black cardigan for the first time). While Jade sees the symbol as scary, the Witch is actually giving him clues in his quest to understand Fromland. It’s also possible that the “sun” side was keeping Martin captive (see the sun-symbol as the winch), and the Boy in White is bad and sent Boyd there to free him. The rules of the game seem to be related to the gathering of lost items from their past that are anchoring them to this place (see Kristi’s rock, the anchors on the talismans, the wall in the church and Martin’s tattoo). Anchors Tabitha’s is the suitcase/dress, Jim’s is the bracelet, Victor’s is the dummy (his mother might have been a travelling entertainer, doing ventriloquism and playing violin). The Monsters have their own “anchors” (see the junk in the cave, the music box) and are attempting to steal anchors that are associated with current Fromily. Throughout the series, we see people and items with blue, yellow and less often, pink/red. Ethan and Boyd, in particular, are almost always in yellow when they’re on walkabout. This seems to suggest that it is how Fromily react to each situation that aligns them with a colour, and in certain scenes everyone wears blue in particular. It seems if Fromily act as the explorers did, (nobody standing up for Sarah, who is the “witch” in this scene), https://preview.redd.it/4podi2v1p33b1.png?width=990&format=png&auto=webp&s=45db065755a1c1883d78fee1f0e463300bb9819d When fighting over food (see the scene at the diner) or turn on each other, there is often blue. When they act heroically, they tend to wear yellow. It is rare to see a resident that is not wearing one of these three colours - occasionally one will wear black. In order to escape Fromland and end the game, Fromily must gather their tethered items and also reunite the boy in white with his sun counterpart (as demonstrated on the moon and sun converging on the exit sign). The Way Out - reuniting the Sun and the Moon (the Square and the Circle) The Monsters: Everyone who arrives in Fromland must suffer as the Beothuk did. The crows are turned into Monsters to punish new arrivals, which is why they have a second-eyelid (as seen in the Kevin death scene) and seem interested in human items and their own reflection. They fly around as crows during the day, watching Fromily and learning their names. Victor’s Timeline Victor experiences a gap of 40ish years – (1978-2018). This gap is very confusing, as we have other dates that are quite close to one another and don’t seem to pause that long. We’ve been led to believe by Victor that someone betrayed them to the monsters, and told them all their hiding places. There are two suspects – Victor’s mother, who knew the exact night for Victor to hide somewhere new, or Christopher, who stopped smiling and was seeing the symbol. Given the pre-existing mythology of a mother doing a deal to save her son, can we assume that Victor’s mother made her own deal - just like Sarah was trying to make for her brother? I have a feeling Victor’s mother, Victor and Christopher were kept alive by the sympathetic witch (just look at the stars). Victor seems to have seen her in person before too based on his drawings. The witch revealed their situation and Victor’s mother went to the Devil and agreed to betray everyone if he would just let her son live a full life (just like Sarah is “making a deal”). The Boy in White kept Victor alive, as agreed, until he could fend for himself. Christopher survived thanks to the Witch and went to live in the Lighthouse - he’s the Radio Voice. Finally, Victor’s mother’s deal has expired. The game began again, in 2018…and it’s going to end in 2022, one way or another. The Cards: https://preview.redd.it/kexosboap33b1.png?width=1758&format=png&auto=webp&s=fa070eded3b92034acc5f77674c5de663a0e33a5 https://preview.redd.it/3yrb5m1ep33b1.png?width=1620&format=png&auto=webp&s=ba1a433b3dc3d13103e7da14d4000a93c70dca05 I have many more of these, but Reddit only allows 20 images. The Fool – Boyd (follows dog, always carries things in bundles, even when the bag has handles) The Magician – Ethan (wizard's staff) The High Priestess – Tabitha (hands Khatri a copy of the bible, has visions) The Empress – Unknown. The Emperor – Nathan (two goats) The Heirophant – Father Khatri (religious figure, always wears open grey cardigans, seen between grey pillars/stones, church has three crosses stacked like the tarot symbol) The Lovers – Ellis and Fatima (Garden of Eden) The Chariot – Bakta (Coach Driver) Strength – Jade (Cat shirt, carries radio cables bent into shape of infinity symbol, perseverance) The Hermit – Victor (lived alone, carries a torch in key scenes) The Wheel of Fortune – Elgin (Elgin is a famous watchmaker, and seems to predict the future? He also talks about owls, which are related to seeing the future). Justice – Kenny (Deciding on Sara going in the box) The Hanged Man – Jim (seen around rope, halfway up trees, and seen hanging upside-down) Death – Bing-Qian Liu (Always wears black, king, bishop and knight are chess pieces, he says “(k)night scary”.) Temperance – Tilly (Pouring/holding two cups and wearing triangles, several scenes) The Devil – The demon (closest match, Boyd douses torch pointed down, showing he is posessed) The Tower – the radio voice in the lighthouse (closest match) The Star – the witch (closest match) The Moon – Boy in White (note the two dogs on the moon card) The Sun – sun-child (unknown, or Ethan is wrongly assigned) Judgment – Sara (must be judged for her crimes) The World – Martin (circle cut into arm?) Unknown. Knight of Swords – Randall (impulsive, headstrong) Queen of Swords – Donna (Stern, holds a shotgun pointed upwards) Five of Cups – Mrs Liu (cross around neck) Two of Cups – Kristi (Caduceus symbol, heart stone, holds two cups) Two of Wands – Kenny (holds mini-globe) Six of Cups - Juli (wears Hearts in episode 7 promo, holds Kevin’s flowers) Three of Pentacles – Dale (triangle necklace, poor work ethic, apathy, no motivation) Unresolved questions: Why a ballerina? Presumably, the Devil has cards already under his control via worms, and uses them to possess people. Why the USA? Cabot came to claim new land for England and Heny VII - perhaps a loose understanding of what this land would become assigned it as the USA. Alternatively, the “game” could have evolved later in a yet to be revealed way, one that answers why the 1950s clothing and town too. Why 1950s themes? We can presume perhaps that the Deities that rule Fromland periodically update the town and the monsters' appearances based on an unknown quantity that is yet to be revealed. Why the Civil War soldiers? The Witch is revealing to Jade that Jim is the Hanged Man, using a flashback from a previous cycle. What’s with the spiders? It is a natural phenomenon where spiders climb into the trees to escape floods, covering them in webs. This is a foreshadowing of an upcoming flood. It seems that much of the above could be explained by ANOTHER town in another part of Fromland, simultaneously occurring in the 1950s. Perhaps in this place, the roles are reversed, Fromily are the monsters and the Monsters the townsfolk (like the mirrored Sun-boy and Moon-boy). You can get there by travelling deep underground, until you're upsidedown (kind of like the From opening credits). This is where the Ballerina resides, as well as most of the "anchor" items. Side Note: The expeditions of the Corte-Real brothers that disappeared in 1501 and 1502 respectively may also be involved, and precipitated the food shortage and violence. If they are, they would have arrived in Newfoundland together - this is represented by the two cars coming at the same time (this happened in both Victor's time, and the Matthews' time), and the two additional ships in the cave painting. Sara’s voices blame the people in the two cars for everyone dying - a hint at the origin story of the brothers’ two ships. This aligns with Beothuk mythology that states the first explorers to arrive in Newfoundland were good, and the second set bad. THANKS FOR READING! I am probably very wrong, but that's my best attempt at stitching together all the clues in the show. No worries if you disagree, it's just for fun. submitted by TaranMatharu to FromTVEpix [link] [comments] |

2023.05.31 02:18 Meatrition Greek + Mexican Zero seed oils — new seed oil free restaurant named Ziki Kitchen
| ZIKI© CARES ABOUT YOU NO SEED OILS NO VEGETABLE OILS NO SOY GRASSFED BUTTER PASTURE RAISED EGGS ANIMAL-BASED GHEE LOCALLY SOURCED ORGANICS Food is the world's most important category. If you were to regress every other category, we would still survive. If cars disappeared tomorrow — we would ride horses, as we once did. If bridges disappeared tomorrow — we would sail boats. However, if food were to disappear tomorrow, we would become extinct within days. Before extinction, comes the stage of endangered species. The current food system is regressing, and wrapped in false virtue. ZIKI believes that the greatest way to protect and advance our health as humans, resides within our food system. ZIKI has chosen to base itself in the philosophy of scaling the most pure, natural, and most earthly ingredients — in order to move us forward. YOU ARE BEING POISONED Many restaurants and grocery stores are poisoning you with toxic ingredients that your body simply cannot process. This includes things like seed oils, vegetable oils, soy, palm, artificial, and preservatives. This results in inflammation, illness, depression, hormonal imbalance, weight volatility, and many more. Certain disease exists today which once did not, and we believe much of it has to do with your diet. We are prioritizing your health at our expense — while they are prioritizing saving money at the expense of your health. OUR INGREDIENTS — BACK TO THE BASICS We do not cook with ANY seed oils, canola oils, vegetable oils, and we are completely soy-free. OUR OILS — Grass-fed butter is our primary cooking ingredient, followed by extra virgin olive oil. That’s it. Zero Acre oil is what we fry our items in. Animal fat is full of nutrients and omega fatty acids, especially when the animal was pasture raised. All fats have some level of Trans Fats, but natural Trans Fats are much healthier for people than manmade vegetable oil trans fats. One example, is that we use animal-based ghee in our dessert, instead of vegetable ghee — despite it being 253% more expensive. OUR VEGGIES — Local. No hexane ripening, no preservatives, and nothing artificial. Sustainably and regeneratively grown so it is not destroying the surrounding environment. You would be amazed at how much the environment suffers with certain farm practices that do not follow sustainable or regenerative. Our veggies are healthier, and taste better (so much better). OUR EGGS — Regenerative. We only use pasture-raised, and free range. The chickens are on a varied diet consisting of the entire natural biome (insects, grains, seeds, and other microorganisms, vegetable scraps, and supplemented minerals). These chickens are not being force fed. They are steroid-free and stress-hormone free. Happier and healthier chickens are better chickens. OUR DAIRY — Yogurt is the foundation of our famous Tzatziki sauces. We use goat milk, rather than traditional cow milk. "Compared to cow's milk, goat's milk has higher amounts of vitamin A, riboflavin, calcium, potassium, and niacin," Stefanski says. It's also easier to digest because of the small fat globules and slightly lower lactose content." OUR HONEY — Raw + Unfiltered. Better for the bees, better for the environment and better for you, honey. SUSTAINABLE SUPPLIERS & FARM RELATIONSHIPS Texas grown. Our partnering farms practice everything from low till operations to avoid soil erosion, to cover-cropping to protect soil health. They produce goods without sulfites, nitrates, benzoic, propionic, and sorbic acids. In an effort to maximize nutritional value, they focus on wholesome variety diets for their feed and treat their animals humanely. Within every market, we will strive to prop up our local community by sourcing the greatest ingredients from the best farms. OUR FUTURE As we continue to grow and expand into new cities — food integrity will always stand at the front of our operation. We seek to scale truth. 2023.05.31 02:15 OrionLinksComic the cape, Sentinel, Scott Pilgrim and co: how comics dissect toxic nerds and what's still missing.
you know my favorite Marvel What If comic is #19 of the original run. it's a story that tells what if Peter Parker with his Spider-Man persona hadn't become a crime fighter but continued wrestling and he clicked to become prominent and famous. that's actually quite interesting to really see the contrast that Peter went through. I mean have you seen him in amazing fantasy 15? I mean really he's really there after the bite her in the direction I want to show it the schoolyard bullies, and quite immature on top of that, only that with his uncle gave him some self-reflection that he shouldn't use his powers for himself. and as I said it's fascinating to see what would have happened if he hadn't gotten that self-reflection, as it's also really interesting to see that he's acting quite childish there too. and I think that's one thing that I find kind of fascinating that you have a person who has kind of toxic streaks but yet you've fought them to become a better person.
and I think that's just one of the things that many unfortunately still have in their heads, that people with their bad qualities always act actively and consciously. but often it's just that many don't check it or don't want to check it, that they also say, think and act quite questionable things.
and I think the best comic that sort of dissects that thinking is Scott Pilgrim vs the world. and I have to talk about the differences between the film and I know what it's like to criticize this film even if I'm right that the comic clearly goes further. and best embodied with technically one of my favorite evil ex Lucas Lee. Anyone who only knows the movies knows he threw Scott into a clock tower (where the universe says he probably deserved it) and that he beat himself because he's not good at grinds. in the comic version it's a bit more complicated. basically it's a whole deconstruction on the nerd vs jock trope. because after Lukas Scott gave a crash course in architecture, they took a break. the two of them sitting on a bench and suddenly starting to get a conversation. and then slowly dissolves then on the masks and the roles that play. I mean you really get the feeling in another timeline maybe they could have even been friends. I mean heck, the way it happened with the self knockout with the skateboard wasn't a trick, scott just wanted to be nice because Lukas himself was an avid skater but hasn't done it in years. and in general it is treated more like a victory in history that he didn't even deserve. That's generally the problem I have with the film, that I don't think it really goes into it any more deeply, the construction of the cliché from loser to winner. precisely because a lot of elements also fall out about Scott, e.g. the whole thing with Kim, or is it actually his own fault that the relationship with Envy is a fiasco and that she even tells him to his face that he is emotional packages on others, oh yeah and the whole Lisa thing that was completely cut from the movie where he beat up someone who was flirting with her even though they weren't in a romantic relationship.
and while you're talking about people who lack self-reflection at a dangerous level, let's get to joe hill the cape. the story revolves around Eric who got into a pretty bad accident when he was eight years old while playing superheroes with his brother, the thing is he claimed the cape he was wearing really made him fly. but of course his mother and brother didn't really believe in it at first. Years went by somehow he's so common some are successful like Erik's brother and others are just like Erik. and at the very end he suddenly finds in his mother's basement the cape that she actually locked away for years after his accident. and lo and behold it was no imagination that he could fly with it. and with that power, one thing had decided to take revenge and killed his ex. then you know that's kind of like a horror story that's particularly mienna, why? because I was in a situation like Eric myself, I looked at myself like a loser out of nothing and was just jealous as well as almost everyone, I mean heck I can even draw a parallel to it because Erik's brother Nick is studying and Unfortunately, he doesn't have the opportunity to do so, which is also the case with me. The thing is I've managed to sort of outgrow it and even now have a pretty solid relationship with my brother, I mean he lives in my apartment and takes care of my cat when I have to go to the vocational training center. and that's exactly what I want to see more of, where you can really ask yourself hey isn't the badguy somehow me? you already know the fear of a thing you can be. because the thing is Erik never got away from his accident and the loss of his cancer, he only defined himself with it you can almost say it's a gimmick and if you just limit yourself with it as a person clearly he doesn't have much space to grow. it's just really fitting about the capture boxes spoken by Nick that he says that back when he was always playing with his brother Erik he was the villain because there always had to be one for Erik. and that's something I just can't outgrow, someone must be to blame for his misery. he has a victim mentality that he mostly uses to justify his shit and that's a thing you often see in nerds trying to cover up for their toxic behavior.
but what if i realize my toxic properties early on? Well, I have to say that starting early is important, but it doesn't mean that you haven't caused any damage that you have to live with. Sentinel was one of the titles that was part of the Mavel Next imprint, and my god it came out 20 years ago but it feels more modern than you think. Basically it's about Justin, a normal loose high schooler in the middle states who lives in his father's junkyard with his brother. and then he finds the remains of one of the eponymous giant robots from the Marvel Universe, which he begins to repair out of curiosity. and it's actually interesting because you really dig into the psyche of someone who has to realize they're not perfect, and believe me youngsters always have a hard time with that. I mean if you really really love this comic you really feel like you are actually reading something about a normal teenager struggling with his status and schoolyard bully. and then he cries himself out the giant robot that repairs after. The two most important points of the first Story Ark is, I don't think anyone knows something that makes this comic somehow so modern. in the story, justin develops a friendship with a girl who sees this relationship as just a friendship and he almost destroyed her for telling around he had sex with her, proving people a technic don't have a plan of people. oh yes, and that he uses the completed Sentinel to make himself look like a hero. he ordered the giant robot to pretend to attack the high school and he then hit his metal friend in the shin with a car and then he disappeared because of it. the thing is just like that justin doesn't really feel like a hero just because of that, i mean you traumatized a town and the guy that has been tormenting you most of the time is now technically in a mental hospital for the trauma, yeah no wonder you doesn't feel like a real hero if none of this is true or deserved. and I don't want to spoiler about it on how it goes because that's when it starts out like he's really really trying to do good and be a hero but like I said the damage is done and you have to live with him now. It works I think because you just really get the feeling a lot of teenagers, if not yourself, would do shit like that because they just don't know any better. and then crashing full force against the wall called reality. the thing is, toxic properties are mostly in people and only become apparent when they're released or have room to grow. and realizing that you have them is always a painful experience when you have to admit to yourself things you don't want.
and these are three comics that I think do a pretty good job of picking apart toxic nerd behavior, or some form of it. the self righteousness. and if you don't get it wrong, that's actually very important and it's even a breeding ground for many things, I mean the three examples I mentioned there also act about guys who somehow also have a problem with women. although I have to say maybe a story in general that deals directly with sexism in nerd circles is also important.
but other things are also important, e.g. racism and homophobia. I mean have you ever been in a lobby of the popular multiplayer game? I mean the hatred to people of color or LBGTQ representation in works of art eho bach them ware normally heteronorm is terrifying. I mean from people who say I was bullied in the schoolyard because I liked XY, it's ironic when they start attacking others themselves. I mean just because you've experienced shit yourself doesn't mean you should inflict it on others.
but we can also pull out the Marxist lens and deconstruct the pro-capitalist side of some creeps. I mean, from guys demanding that something go bankrupt just because it has diversity in it, to people spreading anti-union sentiment in the entertainment industry. I mean heck we can even take apart the Tech Bro Utopia which is actually more of a dystopia of white sausage libertarian partying.
I mean heck, from all the bullshit I get from the Gamer™️ site you could make a mark Russell comic series about of it, that's how f******* some of them are missing selfsreflection.
but do you say? what are works that come to your mind that deal with the? what else needs to be treated?

2023.05.31 02:10 aaaaa143222 Comment on "Surveillance, Slander, and Censorship 2023: How the Chinese Communist Party’s Persecution Impacts Falun Gong Believers on US University Campuses" by Falun Dafa Information Center
Comment on this:
https://library.faluninfo.net/surveillance-slander-and-censorship/ Some parts are misleading. In the report, there is no example showing that Beijing exported suppression by printing propaganda in US textbooks (that's the title). The first sections does not talk about textbooks, so the title is a little bit misleading. (For example, the first section shows that there are Falun Gong practitioners in US universities.)
The report suggests that the government was involved in the incidents. I think it's probable. In another example, there was a suspicious Chinese student always standing around Falun Gong activities. The Falun Gong practitioner suggested that it deterred other Chinese students from participating. These conclusions downplay another reason for their rejection... Chinese people generally don't like Falun Gong. As someone who has silently watched the overseas Chinese society for a long time, I feel that most people (even those who oppose the Chinese government) don't like Falun Gong, even though Falun Gong organizations spend a lot of efforts to promote themselves. (And other overseas Chinese would agree with me.)
The website "Voice of Chinese" conducted a survey about Chinese people's opinions on Falun Gong in 1999. The survey respondents were mostly overseas Chinese. The survey isn't uniformly distributed, but it shows quite a lot of opposition to Falun Gong. The present opposition is certainly higher, because this survey was conducted just around the time when Falun Gong was banned in China, and many things happened since. Link:
https://web.archive.org/web/20021202141747/http://www.voicesofchinese.org/falun/surveyrpt.shtml According to LA Times, Falun Gong has failed to generate lasting sympathy from the Chinese American community, where some label the Falun Gong as a fringe group. "They’re visible because they have devoted members, but they don’t have a large following," said Yong Chen, who teaches history and Asian American studies at UC Irvine. "The perception among many people is that the Falun Gong is not equivalent to human rights." [1] According to Yan Sun, a political science professor at Queens College, Falun Gong is a fringe group that has limited acceptance among Chinese people. [2]
[1]
https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2007-dec-30-me-chinarose30-story.html [2]
http://www.queenstribune.com/news/1216920411.html In the 3rd and 4th sections of the report, which are about criticism about Falun Gong, criticism of Falun Gong is directly considered to be incorrect demonizing propaganda. However, the reason is not given. There is also a particular criticism of Falun Gong (promoting LGBTQ hate) that is not mainly a criticism made by the Chinese government, but by the society in the West. However, it is attributed to the Chinese government.
There is another criticism that is considered to be false by the report (rejecting medicine and others), although the report did not explain why it's false. The criticism is true, because Falun Gong teaches that medicine doesn't cure illnesses, that true Falun Gong practitioners don't have illnesses (only illusions, opportunities to reduce karma by suffering the illness). The Falun Dafa Information Center wrote (elsewhere) that Li Hongzhi clearly stated that people should take medicine when they need to. However, taking medicine also makes one a false practitioner. In the book "Falun Gong", it is written that taking medicine is equivalent to not believing Falun Gong. It is impossible for true Falun Gong practitioners to take medicine even if they are not forbidden, because they would possibly miss salvation or enlightment, which they consider to be more important than what happens in the human world. (list of quotes of related Falun Gong teachings at
https://flgtruth.blogspot.com/2023/02/falun-gong-and-rejecting-medicine.html)
It is possible that Falun Gong causes insanity, because Falun Gong practitioners' thoughs may be influenced negatively. Falun Gong teaches to abandon "attachments", including: normal human emotions (fear, love [all types], pride, etc.), social relationships, fame, money, life & death (meaning deduced with other teachings: do not attach importance to whether you die or not, because salvation is guaranteed by Falun Gong). Falun Gong teaches that Li Hongzhi's "Falun" (law wheels) and "Fashen" (law bodies) will protect the practitioner, such as being invincible during a car accident, etc. (although Falun Gong doesn't incite people to test this). On Falun Gong's website, there are many stories of miracle cures and disasters prevented by Falun Gong. There are also some stories about demons in society. I think that Falun Gong practitioners have some contetion with suspected "demons".

Hello! Im looking for some helping identifying a book and remember the following details about it:
Plot: A young boy is sent to live with his two elderly aunts in a sprawling British countryside estate after his parents pass away. The house is also home to some other elderly/retired people. The boy discovers that the people living in the house are all part of a crime syndicate. Each member of the household possesses a particular skill set, perfect for executing their Robin Hood-style heists. There is a nasty neighbour who tries to get the aunts arrested. The group plans a heist at the neighbours house and uncover that he is a criminal.
Unfortunately I can't remember any more of the plot or what mystery they solve.
I can recollect other specific scenes or events, especially the locations/settings. But Unfortunately nothing relevant to the plot (as far as I remember), just World and character building.
Notable characters:
Aunt 1 - cheerful and bubbly. She's a former race car driver. She has blonde hair and rosy cheeks. She is the getaway driver for their crime syndicate.
Aunt 2 - thin and tall. Very intelligent. grey hair and wears glasses. She is the mastermind behind their heists.
- A brilliant painter, capable of forging famous works of art with astounding precision. He is male and I think he is French.
- A master locksmith who can crack any lock. He is male.
- A lady who used to preform as a trapeze artist in the circus but now uses her skills to help the group scale buildings to break in whilst avoiding security. I think she is described as Eastern European.
- the adversary is a male neighbor with a penchant for dangerously speeding down country lanes (I think he drove a lime green Jaguar). He is suspicious of the elderly residents, trying to get them arrested. He ends up revealing his true colors as a criminal.
- the neighbour's girlfriend. Unfortunately, I don't remember much about her, but she is in some way part of the mystery uncovered in the book. I think she may have previously been the young boys nanny or his parents house keeper. I also think she may have stolen something of importance from the boys parents or been in some way involved in the parents deaths (or maybe she was just described as being nasty/callus).
Info: The genre is children's mystery/Heist with the target age being approx 10-14yrs (pre-teen). I read it in approx 2004 (give or take a few years either way). The book is set in rural England in the 80s or 90s and was approximately 200 pages. The copy I had was in English and i recieved it as a Christmas present from my parents. It was a paperback and the cover featured a colorful drawing of a vintage car (perhaps a Rolls Royce) cruising down an English country lane, with the blond race car driver Aunt behind the wheel and the other Aunt in the passenger seat.
Any ideas?

Hell, I was a Pharmacist for CVS and I did this. The Store Manager, who was actually below me in status pay grade and replaceability was standing up for this crazy bitch, and I just turned to him and Said "Fine, run your fucking store without a Pharmacist, I took my License off the wall and walked out, took a week off and had a new job in a Week with a competitor down the road. I eventually got out of Retail and went Hospital.

2023.05.31 01:47 rolandofeld19 Half practical, half emotional, land thoughts abound
I tend towards the verbose so TL;DR right here:
I'm set to inherit ~120 rural acres in the US South. It has some good/bad points. It is quite far from where life has led me to put down roots. I don't know what I don't know and I wonder if y'all have faced similar situations in your life.
Geography: NW Alabama but tending towards Birmingham. The footiest of the foothills of the Appalachians. Not flat, not mountains. Property is bordered by a non-seasonal, 20 foot wide, creek on two sides and has a county blacktop road cutting it into basically 60 acres and 40 acre plots. The bordering river is navigable by small boat/personal watercraft but sees only incidental fisherman, no docks or ramps for a while up or downstream. It flows slowly, sometimes backwards when far downstream locks/dams stop flow. Zero flood risk.
Land Ecology: The property is about 70 percent woodland, unmanaged, and 30 percent hay field, casually managed by leasee that cuts it. Some older hardwoods but much of it is scrubby pine. Healthy deer, turkey, possum, rabbit populations.
History: The pasture was once the row crop field of my paternal grandfather and great grandfather, perhaps even further back. A ruined wall is where washing was done in the past. Long disused fish capture/raising ponds recount my great grandfather's side business selling bait for long gone fishing camps. A (now inactive, more on this below) is where my father and his siblings bathed growing up. The 40 acres across the street has been leased for mountain top strip mining 3 times in living memory, about 20 years apart, most recently 10 years ago. Reclaiming efforts that are mandated by law were performed haphazardly and amount to some grading of the land and some pine saplings strewn about. The spring is long dead. The river, once clear to the bottom when my father was young, is a permanent zero visibility clay orange from the mining operations of decades ago.
Economy: The land is a few miles outside of a town that has been dying for decades. They just closed the local school not too many years ago so even that vestige of strength is gone. The mines are slowly folding as well. The feneral population is best described as elderly or addicted. Sad/fading churches, potholes, and kudzu are the icons that I note from afar. The rest of folks, those who could, have left. Drug abuse and crime, petty and otherwise are not at all uncommon.
Fiscal burdens: There are no liens or other intangible issues with the property, I'm an only child and the property is mine by birthright if I want if. Yearly taxes are small due to no improvements on the property, though this may go up if inheriting it triggers an accessor visit. I think my parents are paying $1200 or so a year in taxes, but it could be half of that.
Personal thoughts/questions, aka the meat and potatoes of this post that I'd love to talk about:
I hate to see the family land that, including my kids, albeit briefly, have played on, at least 6 or 7 generations have owned simply be sold. But I am realistic and the complications, the ones I've considered listed below, are tough.
I don't live near there anymore, I'm 12 hours away by car and I've seen friends attempt to manage two homes, or a home and a cabin, and it's a heck of a job. Keeping up two places, even if one is rustic, is a stressor to even think about. Roads/trails need maintenance. This is further complicated by the fact that, due to the economic issues above, any improvements are subject to abuse or theft. Garbage will be dumped, unattended RVs would be noticed and vandalized/stolen/squatted in, cabins would see break-ins and even AC coils or well pumps or electric wires stolen for scrap metal sale.
There's a small interest from a group of my goodest friends in creating a group owned cabin there. That would help with the issue of not having a presence there by spreading responsibility across more people but, honestly, they don't know the local taboos and idiosyncrasies that this would entail dealing with. Plus 'good walls make good neighbors' or something like that and I'm not sure I want to rism complicating a friendship with the worlds smallest commune, offgrid, cabin homestead.
But, I have always wanted to build an off grid retreat of sorts... It's not impossible insofar as my wife's and my careers are doing well enough to keep it on the back burner, nor do we need the money that would come from a sale of the property.
Anyway... Thanks for your thoughts. Until the time comes, at least 10 or 15+ years for my kids to finish school, I continue to dream.

2023.05.31 01:37 yolkofficial I have $50, how do I get into a living/roommate situation while avoiding tipping off my mom while also staying safe cus I'm trans?
Basically, my mom has raised me to be dependent on her. I'm 18 but I still live with her. I feel like a prisoner in her house. I can't leave during the day or night because she wants to know where I am at all times.
I have no friends to help me. I need a place to stay, I need the safety and security of a home that she has nothing to do with. I want to be able to start to live my adult life without her trying to "advocate" for me, I want her out of my personal business. Understand my situation:
- She has control over my savings account. I cannot close this account in secret because she will see and confront me. I cannot get to the bank without a ride.
- I'm scared to up and leave because she will call me/the cops trying to track me down. I can't go very far away from the house because of the imaginary boundary she's restricted me to(years of emotional abuse, please understand I don't know life being anything other than living in fear of her yelling and crying at me).
- I don't know how to drive and I don't have a car. She is the only one who can teach me how to drive. She drives me everywhere.
- I have 100% no way to reach out to the local community for help because she is paranoid and is basically my only contact with the outside world(outside of the internet). My family loves her and thinks I'm selfish and mean. I have no one. If I started hanging out with someone new, she would want to know everything about them and be involved.
- I cannot get a job because I get burnt out because of the constant anxiety of living with her, I'm trying to get on SSDI so the job wouldn't work after that goes through, and I can't travel to the job in secret because she must know where I am all hours of the day and she would insist on driving me to work.
- I don't feel comfortable reaching out to LGBTQ+ resources in the area because she is involved with most of them (she fetishizes being a supportive mother to my transition when she really just wants whatever her mental idea was of the child she gave birth to, ie a kid that loves her).
- She refuses to give me her copy of my original birth certificate, which probably also translates to the copies of my new/old social security card and my updated birth certificate. Please understand I have my own copies of my updated documents, but I don't want her to hold on to my documents because she uses them to fawn over the child she never had(she's still mourning the "loss" after two years of me being out) and it makes me sick, she's delusional and the situation is getting harder and harder to fake through.
Yeah, so basically I feel hopeless of getting out of the house. I feel hopeless trying to reach out because I just come off as a lazy pathetic man child victimizing myself and that I need to "grow up". I want to. Please, I don't want to live like this. I'm desperate. She's going to find me if I try to leave and she'll yell and cry and I don't have any place to go because she's going to track me down and drag me home and yell and cry. I don't know how long the state is going to take to provide assistance, but I don't even think they'll try to get me housing, just assisted living care and SSDI, I need help. This is me reaching out, I live in Montana, I know it's stupidly unsafe to put myself out like this but I'm desperate and I don't feel like I'm even alive. I need a place to go, preferably I can move in all my stuff, but I am okay with just my the suitcases and bags I have, or really however much room I can have is what I'll bring. I take meds and I can keep them hidden away. I would need rides, but I have my Learner's permit so we could start working on getting my license. I'll live in any room or the basement if it's livable, just anything so I can walk out of the house without being scared I'm going to upset my mom. I have a horrible potty mouth(as in I let the intrusive edgy thoughts out) and so preferably I don't want to be around young kids but if it's a roof over my head I'll do my best to be respectful.
I can't do anything to establish independence from her until I can be sure my mom can't try to stop me and/or yell and cry and chastize me because I'm not in her house anymore. I need a place to stay, then it's boots on the ground. Optimally, I'll try to be out as soon as I can get state support, hopefully no longer than a year. I want to live my life, I want to enjoy life, I want to meet new people, I want to be able to live life without being responsible for my mom's emotions. I want to have space so I can heal and be myself, I'm tired of walking on eggshells because she's only mentally abusive and there is no physical or digital way to prove she is hurting/depriving me of my needs because she provides everything for me. Please, I'm begging, I need help, I need to get out.
The plan: 1. Move away and carry only what can fit at the new house. 2. Close my savings account and open a new account without her being attached. 3. Obtain her copies of my birth certs and SS cards 4. Gain control over my phone bill(she uses my savings to pay for it, but she has the account info and maybe could try to take my phone to make me come back). 5. Get involved with the community and meet new people. 6. Work on and obtain my driver's license. 7. Move out on my own with state assistance.
I'm really sorry if this isn't a post for this sub, I am just worried that I'll find a room and then put myself in a compromised position because of my transition. If you consider your home safe for someone who is trans/gay and you live in Montana, please help me.
