I was assigned to be the group leader for one of the tasks in class. I just transferred so I don't know anyone aside from two mutual friends. We started working on the task and my voice wasn't really heard by others. I kept getting overshadowed by my other groupmate. He made a snide remark saying, "Why does it seem like I'm the group leader instead?" I think it was because I was a girl, he didn't take me seriously, but he did the other members because they were guys. I know very little about the SGI in Japan. My perspective on the SGI-USA is basically from what I see in my district, occasional Zoom meetings at the chapter or region level, and publications. My entire practice has been through the pandemic lockdown so my experience is very different from yours. I think you raised a fair point when you said that there's a big difference between practicing in LA and in the rural heartland.
May I continue to respond to your question through a personal lens? As you acknowledged, in April my wife and I start our third year of practice. But just on March 5th we celebrated our first year anniversary of receiving our Gohonzon and becoming formal SGI members. "May Contributions" starts in a few weeks and the requirement is you have to be a member for one full year before formally participating through your portal (although we have sent in monthly checks by mail and they were never returned). Finally, we are eligible to participate.
As a family we are proud that we can donate to a lot of causes. We donate regularly to the Red Cross disaster efforts both in the United States and abroad. Our favorite cause is the local Ukrainian Center and they provide financial and material support to their homeland. We contribute funds, boxes of goods (very much like what your children do), and one of us does hours of both volunteer and paid work.
Let me join these two strands of thought. There are many staff members who deserve decent salaries and benefits. We have a wonderful online footprint and publications that must be paid for.
With all of these expenses, I simply don't see where the modest contributions my family and others make can stretch far enough to "line the pockets" of anything or anyone.

Bonanza is my favorite Western show because you can bet that at least one person is going to be punched in the face at least once every episode. It is such an entertaining series and I love to see the Cartwrights take down the reprobates of the Wild West. Gunsmoke is also very good, but it is more focused on exploring themes appropriate for the time period and emphasizes that thematic exploration and the final message that comes from that exploration over action (from what I’ve seen). I find that Gunsmoke does this much better than Bonanza. Are there any more “light” western shows out there like Bonanza with lots of action and fights with slimy outlaws?

So I first started learning how to trade when I was 22 and in college (2019). In May of 2022, I bought my first ever funded challenge and couldn’t make enough profit within the 30 days so I earned my first free retry. Since then, I have done 7 more free retries and still couldn’t make enough profit in time. It’s making me a bit depressed. I know I should be glad that I haven’t failed yet but it’s almost a year since I’ve started and I’m feeling down.
When I see a setup or when there is a certain news release that I have no previous knowledge on, I’ll just watch and see what happens, and I’ll go back like a year on the charts and backtest that specific news and make a rule. If I see a pattern I don’t recognize or if there’s anything off to me I’ll do the same thing. This is definitely why I haven’t passed yet because a lot of these trades I’ve watched were winners but I just sat out instead of taking action. There are weeks where I’ll spend 30-40 hours backtesting, and honestly learning something new or figuring out a correlation makes me very happy. I’ve been trying to make my strategy mechanical since my problem was originally being afraid to enter, and now I’m no longer afraid. I have a whole database of thousands of screenshots with tags so I can go look back for reference, and I’m more confident in my analysis than ever. I finally have an if —> then strategy which has been my goal due to the kind of person I am. I’m pretty much done backtesting as I’ve done the last 18 months worth since I started my first funded challenge last year, but now I find myself impatient and stressed out because I’ve been seeing my setup less because my rules are so specific. I’ve also found myself considering just taking “it is what it is” trades just so I can get it over with, which is undisciplined and I know I’d probably fail that way. My RR is 1% per setup and I always enter twice so 0.5% per entry. My first tp is 2R and my second is whatever FVG or liquidity I see price heading towards which can be 2.5R+. I’m not sure my point of typing this, I guess I’m just venting because I have no one in my life that trades but I’m open to any constructive criticism or tips.

Hi all. I recently picked up a "king size" 1:40 scale Lesney Mercury Cougar at a toy show. It's pretty old and worn and I got it dirt cheap with the idea that I would sort of restomod it. However, upon closer inspection I now see that it has something Lesney called "True glide steering" wherein the two front wheels turn in unison thanks to a sort of miniature control arm setup.
Does anyone have any experience with or knowledge of these models? I'm curious to know if it will prove to be a giant headache if I take it apart, and furthermore whether a wheel swap is possible without destroying the whole true glide system.

I know there’s not going to be one answer for this question but I was just looking for some personal experiences to get an idea of how long it would take. I am planning on going to grad school in the fall 8 hours away from my home. I have a myriad of psychiatric disabilities that led to the conclusion that it would not be safe for me to go to grad school without my dog. This is my dream grad school and a very prestigious program that I worked really hard to get into. My dog (a 5 year old Norwegian elkhound) is my best friend and we’re inseparable and I’m currently working through a PSD training program with him. He’s been through basic training before and he knows sit, down, stay, come, touch, and leave it (most of the time). What we really need to work on is focus and heel. He’s a pretty mellow dog for the most part he’s just a bit easily distracted and excitable. Do you think it’s possible that he could be mostly trained in time to go to grad school with me in the fall?

OK! So I have received my first pay slip. Three questions:

The girl is stunning, I mean gorgeous. Well I start dancing and her and my friend were just having awkward small talk so once thats over she comes over and starts dancing with me and we hit it off. To not ramble too long, we go to the next bar and I leave her there but when we leave to go home I call her and ask her to come with me. She does. We get home, have a night then Sunday we spent the whole day cuddled up watching shows and talking.
Well I tried not to put too much stake in so I didn't text her the next day after taking her home, but she reached out to me. Well we hang out on my next day off and I was worried that we wouldn't have any actual chemistry when you take away the bar and all that, but we do. Our values line up, we like the good things about each other, and again we just hit it off.
This has been going on for a bit now and she had mentioned moving to this city that is 5-6 hours away but she also said she graduates at the end of the year, so I assumed that is when she is leaving so I would have more time to get to know her and figure all of that out. Well last night she says no she's going there to look at apartments in a couple weeks and wants to move in May or June.
Neither of us want this to stop but also are avoiding the reality of that a good bit. She has told me she wants this to keep going, but she has also said that she doesnt want to think about all that and just wants to enjoy now.
I haven't been in my current job but for a few months and could likely get a job there, and I am not too attached to where I live now even though I have spent majority of my life in my hometown. I also get that even when she actually moves it will not be enough time for me to really really know her. I feel so lost because I have not felt this way about someone in a long time and neither has she from what I can tell and what she says.

So I first started learning how to trade when I was 22 and in college (2019). In May of 2022, I bought my first ever funded challenge and couldn’t make enough profit within the 30 days so I earned my first free retry. Since then, I have done 7 more free retries and still couldn’t make enough profit in time. It’s making me a bit depressed. I know I should be glad that I haven’t failed yet but it’s almost a year since I’ve started and I’m feeling down.
When I see a setup or when there is a certain news release that I have no previous knowledge on, I’ll just watch and see what happens, and I’ll go back like a year on the charts and backtest that specific news and make a rule. If I see a pattern I don’t recognize or if there’s anything off to me I’ll do the same thing. This is definitely why I haven’t passed yet because a lot of these trades I’ve watched were winners but I just sat out instead of taking action. There are weeks where I’ll spend 30-40 hours backtesting, and honestly learning something new or figuring out a correlation makes me very happy. I’ve been trying to make my strategy mechanical since my problem was originally being afraid to enter, and now I’m no longer afraid. I have a whole database of thousands of screenshots with tags so I can go look back for reference, and I’m more confident in my analysis than ever. I finally have an if —> then strategy which has been my goal due to the kind of person I am. I’m pretty much done backtesting as I’ve done the last 18 months worth since I started my first funded challenge last year, but now I find myself impatient and stressed out because I’ve been seeing my setup less because my rules are so specific. I’ve also found myself considering just taking “it is what it is” trades just so I can get it over with, which is undisciplined and I know I’d probably fail that way. My RR is 1% per setup and I always enter twice so 0.5% per entry. My first tp is 2R and my second is whatever FVG or liquidity I see price heading towards which can be 2.5R+. I’m not sure my point of typing this, I guess I’m just venting because I have no one in my life that trades but I’m open to any constructive criticism or tips.
Also does anyone want to be friends? 😭 Trading is a huge part of my life yet I literally haven’t discussed trading with anyone in months. I don’t talk to my family or friends about it because they know how long I’ve been trading and I know they’re judging me because I’m not successful yet. They would not understand what I’m going through at all and and I’d like to meet more like minded people. Trading is lonely lol
