2023.05.31 09:10 Slow-Eye-8739 2017 Tucson - engine replacement denied.
Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me with this problem.
About 2 months ago I dropped my Tucson at a dealership after the engine light turned on and started to blink while I was driving to work. It appeared the code for the KSDS when I scanned, and I couldn't accelerate past 2000rpm.
2 weeks later they call me and explained that they performed a test but couldn't detect rod bearing damage, so they updated the software. Apart from that they told me it was time to replace the serpentine belt, which I ended up paying them to do.
I got my car back, but after 3 days the engine light started to blink again with the same code. I brought it back to the dealer and this time they took only 2 days to call me back.
They said that they did the test again but still couldn't detect rod bearing damage, but this time they replaced the sensor (at no cost) saying that it was probably the culprit.
So I got my car back and while I was driving home from the dealer the engine light started to blink again. So i went back and left the car there.
It's been a month that the car is there, and today I received a call from them telling me once again that they did the test but still couldn't find rod bearing damage and that they talked to hyundai engineers and they told that the car needs a top engine clean, because that is probably whats making the sensor to go off.
They are charging $900.00 for that cleaning. I asked for a couple of days to return to them.
I have the feeling that they are b.s.ing me and taking advantage of the situation to try to sell their services, instead of replacing the engine.
That said, I'm not sure if there's something I can do. So if someone have any idea how to proceed, I appreciate the help. I don't know if makes any difference, but I live in Texas.
Sorry for the long post. Thank you.

2023.05.31 09:01 krishanRonaldo Question about purchasing out of warranty 2019 530e
Hi all! I’ve come across a pretty good deal where I’m getting a used 2019 530e with ~40,000km for the price of a used 330e/330i.
The service records look good and the condition is great as well. The past owner has purchased 3-4 BMWs from the same dealership apparently.
What I’m unsure about is that the car is out of warranty now and how expensive might potential repairs be?
There is also the option to buy a 1-3yr warranty for ~$2500.
Or should I just play it safe and go for a newer 330e/i with 1yr of warranty left?

2023.05.31 08:54 Scorpiovenomm 2017 Lexus IS 350 not aligning properly after driving over curb.
In April, I drove over a curb and damages both rims and tires on the passenger side. It was not drivable and had to be towed on a flatbed. The damage was so bad I had to get insurance involved. After replacing the rims and tires, the dealership found damage with the control arms and alignment. The insured covered it. After the dealership replaced the control arms, the car still won’t take the alignment. They moved the car from the service center to their collision center. The estimator found damage to the frame. The estimate is over 19k, and the insurance is trying to investigate to confirm the damage was caused by me hitting the curb. I’m at the point where I just want my vehicle back. Of course I want it done right, but it’s starting to get expensive with paying out of pocket for rental. Based off this alignment sheet, is my car drivable? I’m just trying to prepare in case the insurance doesn’t want to cover the frame damage.

2023.05.31 08:48 Slippery-pesito Advice for buying a used vehicle and staying protected
I will have to go an view them at some point.
There are both cars on forecourts at dealerships as well as private sellers though I would tend more towards a dealer given the choice for reasons of the sale, not OP topic.
Often you might go on a ridealong but I don't think I would feel comfortable cooped up in an enclosed space with someone who I have no idea of their covid protocols, though we must presume none at this stage, even with a mask on.
I will politely decline if there is an offer. What could I say?
While viewing in a stationary position I think I will just open the doors and look in and hold my breath as an added measure. At some point I would have to get in it but I may try and ask them to drive it to me if I purchase one and then wait 2 or 3 days before getting in myself.
Of course I want to know if the engine works but maybe I can just tell them to start it up.
I also plan to hire a professional mechanic to give a potential purchase a proper looking over so mechanical issues will be covered by them at a different date.

2023.05.31 08:35 Educational_Adagio28 Mechanic taking car home?
Hello I need some advice, I dropped my car off at the Kia dealership because it’s been having some transmission issues. For the newer kias there’s an app called Kia connect where you basically can control the car from the app. I get a notification today at 10:50 pm ish that my car doors were left unlocked. I assumed maybe it was the mechanics at the dealership closing for the night. I decided to check the cars location, it’s at an apartment complex in van nuys( from Southern California area) I dropped the car at the Kia dealership in Valencia which is about a 20 mile difference from van Nuys. After this I decided to check all the trips the car had went on turns out they were driving my car from burbank to north Hollywood and then back to van Nuys. They racked up almost 100 miles of driving in the span of one day. I understand it needs to be driven to test but overnight stay? And almost 100 miles? If anyone has any advice on what I should please let me know.

2023.05.31 08:15 zeon111 Title Transfer NC
Bought a car out of state from a dealership. Went to DMV to do title Transfer and DMV said OG owner sold to another individual and said individual never did title transfer then sold car to dealership then dealership then dealership. So they couldn’t help me. I have bill of sale, all party’s signatures on each transaction to sell to each buyer and OG title with signatures. Not really certain my course of action next. Tracking down an individual in another state through a cookie trail doesn’t seem fruitful.

2023.05.31 08:09 Wooohah81 I fucked up the windshield on my Porsche (even more) trying to remove decal etching
| Little bit of background, bought a 2022 Porsche service loaner with low miles from a local Porsche dealership. It was a CPO, and in an amazing color you can't really get it in anymore. Problem is, they put decals on the rear windshield saying "Porsche service loaner", dealer location and the phone number on the back. When I bought the car, I had no idea, nobody ever told me about it either. It wasn't noticeable until it rained a few days later. Debris seems to stick to it and its very noticeable in certain conditions. Brought it back to the dealership, we tried goo gone and acetone, nothing. They sent it in for a complimentary detailing, got it back, and we couldn't notice it. Until... it rained again. Whatever the detailer did, it made 0 difference. Apparently they used heavier chemicals and tried polishing it. I looked online for solutions and frankly there really weren't any. The only one that seemed semi promising was someone who removed decal etching using barkeepers friend. Its a type of powderized cleaner for glass, stainless steel cookware and cooktops. Apparently it doesn't scratch auto glass according to multiple people. Whatever I did, made it worse and caused these scuffs all across the windshield. I think I used too much of it and not enough water. I can best describe the damage as fine grit sandpaper marks. Worst part is... it didn't remove the etching. It just blurred the edges of the lettering. Been looking at some videos on YouTube for windshield scratch repair and I came upon this video showing how to repair deep scratches. https://youtu.be/6nplzIUdqxY This person is essentially using 180 grit sandpaper on an angle grinder and sanding off an entire layer of the glass. He progresses to 500 grit and then 1000 grit sandpaper. Finishes it off with cerium oxide on a polishing disk. This video showed repair of deep scratches from heavy grit sandpaper. I'm assuming this will solve my problem, but are there any downsides I should be aware of? I know if this is done improperly there will be distortion, any tips on minimizing this? This also shouldn't damage the defogger right? I'm otherwise looking at an OEM windshield replacement, which obviously I would rather avoid lol. submitted by Wooohah81 to Detailing [link] [comments] |
2023.05.31 07:58 megacharlie New or used for first time purchaser?
Hello! Looking into getting a Civic Hatchback EX-L for my first car! I don't drive a whole lot but I love my family's hatchback and I'd like my own.
Mainly figuring out what year to go, and if I want to buy new or used. Seems the used hatchback market hasn't fallen nearly as much as the sedans, so honestly buying a new one wouldn't be the largest jump ever.
If I bought a new one I could have the exact one I'm thinking of, but inventory here (Ohio) has been tight, I guess there was one available at a dealership nearby which I inquired about, and it sold almost immediately the following day haha
On top of that, while I'm sure it's worth it, 30K+ for a first car seems steep? Not sure how willing I am to budge on that specific trim though.
If I go a few years back it seems I could get about 5-7K off, and there's a lot more in the market, but used cars seem a little high currently too? I'm seeing a lot of Sport trims with 10K miles or so but the price will be above MSRP.
So any thoughts there? Do the new years gain much over say a 2015-2018? Am I missing out on much by not jumping straight to a new one?

2023.05.31 07:40 vinlll So got my car checked out due to a popping sound
| For context ive replaced all the suspension components other than the control arms in my 2009 civic and just two weeks after i started hearing a popping sound that i can only hear during slow speeds and during braking and or back to front weight transfers. Checked everything the front kyb struts are oriented right (side pointed toward front of the car), checked for any play, retorqued every single bolt i could find, checked all the engine mounts, changed out the sway bar links and bushings and THE SOUND IS STILL THERE. Anyways drove me crazy enough to pay a dealer to look at it and now turns out that my front brake pads are moving around and they want to replace the clips which i understand but the rotors??? Is that normal or is the dealership trying to rip me off? I plan on doing it myself but i wanna know if the rotor has an effect on the brake pad moving around causing the popping sound or is it just the pad and clips that are purely the cause? The noise only occurs after i brake then the remainder of the braking theres no noise or any unusual symptoms of a bad rotor? submitted by vinlll to MechanicAdvice [link] [comments] |
2023.05.31 07:00 999blb Advice needed between a used Accord 2018-2022 and a New 2023 Civic Hatchback Sport Touring?
Hey everyone!
I'm currently driving a 2009 Honda Accord EX-L with over 200k miles, and I think it's time for an upgrade.
I've always bought used cars in the past, so I started exploring what options I would have if I went down that route. After some test drives, I've found that I really enjoy the last generation of Accords (2018 - 2022). My ideal trim would be the EX-L or Touring, because of the heated seats, a sunroof, and premium audio. However, in my area (shoutout to Ohio), most of the used Accords in these trims with under 50k miles are priced around $25k - $36k at dealerships.
Considering this price range, I decided to explore new cars as well. I test drove both the 2023 Honda Civic and the 2023 Honda Accord, and I was pleasantly surprised by the features and spaciousness of the Civic Hatchback Sport Touring. It felt surprisingly roomy for a compact car and had the features I really want wirh the premium audio, sunroof, and heated seats, along with some nice extras like then USB ports in the back and wireless charging capabilities. The 2023 Honda Accord EX model, which is priced similarly, didn't offer the same level of features and didn't seem as premium. The Civic Hatchback Sport Touring seems to currently listed around $31k MSRP.
I would love to hear from you all. What are the main pros and cons of the 2023 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring compared to the last generation of Honda Accords (EX-L/Touring)? Has anyone else gone through this particular comparison? Are there any specific concerns I should consider that I'm not thinking about?
I really appreciate everyone's help and insights! This is going to be one of the biggest purchases I've ever made, so I want to ensure I make the right decision. Thanks in advance!

2023.05.31 06:39 hernameissage THE TEST DRIVE. (Comedy Movie Idea)
Lol so hear me out, I thought about this on my drive home tonight & just wanna know if it sounds cool or not. Think this movie having the feel of “This is the End” with James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, & Danny McBride LOLLL!
So this guy, (we’ll call him Jace) has a mad sketchy criminal past & has a warrant out for his arrest for robbery in Florida. He comes to a car dealership to “buy a car”. Well as you can tell by my quotation marks, he’s not coming to really buy a car but nonetheless, he shows up at a dealership in the Midwest somewhere, probably Indiana, state hopping to evade police. He’s met with the car salesman, we’ll call him Mark Beasley. If the state of Indiana was a 30 year old white man, that’s how I imagine Mark Beasley to be.
Jace selects a car unusually fast & says he wants to test drive it, to which Mark is required per most dealership regulations to ride shotgun during the test drive. Mark gets in the passenger unassuming & unaware of Jace’s plans to not just skip town, but skip to the west coast to catch a plane to Costa Rica. He goes rogue & steals the car with Mark in it, throwing his phone out the window. There’s crazy funny police chases, crazy encounters with people at gas stations, mark goes to pee in the desert of New Mexico & is chased by Coyotes. Jace witnesses how white & midwestern he is & while on a stop in Vegas they hit the casinos & Mark gets embarrassingly drunk. Basically a whole bachelors night on the strip Lol while still avoiding police who are chasing them all through out the film.
Jace & Mark despite being different in every way, become unlikely friends. Not exactly sure how the ending would go but probably would end w some funny fire explosions & a shoot out w the cops who end up not catching Jace. Jace & Mark say their goodbyes or whatever & he escapes to Costa Rico.

How bad is it to drive on a car that is giving mechanic signals that it needs to be replaced? I just had it replaced around a year ago. It was from a dude I wasn’t as sure as I wanted to be about. I called him up and he said that there was no warrantee on the car he put in. He told me to have my mechanic check the oxygen sensors and that it would probably be fine. My new mechanic did that and ran a smoke test. It still seems to showing up on the scan as needing to be replaced. My new mechanic is quoting me twice as much but this is because the part is sourced from the dealership instead of an after market piece that my last mechanic used. Quoted 3400$ for the part and install. I am driving an 09 first gen. I feel like after the last cat and now this one I could just bought a different 09 wo all these issues?? Any thoughts?

2023.05.31 06:01 Leautjenum I cheated on my boyfriend 21F 23 M
So I met a really nice guy about a two years ago at work. We dated for about 9 months all together. After about a month we started talking and I remember telling myself not to move too fast. It was important for me to date someone who had their shit together(meaning a car or their own place.) well, he didn’t have any of that, but he was respectable, hard working, and overall a great guy in general. He lived with his sister and her man and his younger brother.
So after about a month of “talking” and seeing each other at work, he decided to ask me to be his girlfriend. I was hesitant with this. I had my own car and job at the time so I was really trying to meet a person with the same assets. (I’ve dealt with taking care of past boyfriends that didn’t have much to offer so this was a big deal to me.) I remember telling my family… “He’s a great guy, but I think he’s moving too fast.” This was around October of 2021. He lavished me with gifts, was emotionally available, ALMOST complete package. He was the first person to say he loved me, the first boyfriend that cared for me. I knew things were going fast but I didn’t want to miss out on something great… at least those were my thoughts at that time.
I remember he would always ask if he could come over my place and hang out. Almost every other day. I would always blow him off saying I was too busy. Realistically my home would be a bit untidy, and I didn’t have the energy to put myself together for a man at that time. This was a peaceful time in my life, I was comfortable with myself and being alone. Until one day he came over to my house unexpected. I remember making him wait outside until my house was clean. That was just the standard I set for myself at the time. To this day I still kind of feel bad about that… but again, it was really an unexpected thing.
He had little regard for my personal space throughout our entire relationship. During our first few months, He met my parents, added them on Facebook, had me meet his family, and moved in my house (a very small studio apartment BTW) There were times I was still trying to process things, but everyone around me told me “You better not mess this up.” So I tried to roll with things. Also, my car broke down not too long after we got together.
There were times where he wanted to take me on dates and we’d get stranded by Ubers. Having to walk home in the cold. I thought to myself “well, at least he had good intentions.” I had also lost my job being late to work. (But he didn’t) this caused me to be really depressed. I loved that job so much.
he was there for me when I had my moments. Unfortunately my mental health would only get worse. after a really long and cold winter, my patience grew extremely thin. I was encouraging him almost everyday to save money so we’d have transportation, and he was working making about $1,200 every two weeks. My bills were very cheap. Even my parents said they’d put some money up for us, and they did.
During the spring time, we went to a well known dealership in the area. My boyfriend good credit, and I had the license. The only thing they asked for was that he would AT LEAST get his temps, then they’d send us off with whatever car we chose for a very reasonable price. (We had already picked one out.) I was excited. So, everyday after that I would tell him to Uber to the BMV to take his test. I even set up his appointments for him. He would always promise but he never went.
At this point, I had been sitting in the house for 8 months. Unable to go get groceries, visit my family and friends, or take night drives downtown by the water. Our relationship began to suffer. When I had family come and pick me up, he would constantly text me asking where I was, who I was with, and when I’d be back home. I just… wanted my freedom back.
I began giving him silent treatments, I was exhausted. I would stress him to get his temps so much it would give me panic attacks. My mental health was absolutely shit at this point. I let him move into my home, gave him a space to be himself, to do whatever he wanted. I eventually began to get loud verbally, he would always reply with “You shouldn’t yell at me, that’s unhealthy for our relationship.” But over months of just talking and trying to motivate him, my patience grew thinner and thinner by the day.
I told him I needed a break, all he took it as was that the relationship was over. He even told me that he couldn’t leave my house and go back home because his sisters boyfriend and her were having issues. Looking back that was an immediate red flag. IF YOUR GIRL TELLS YOU SHE NEEDS SPACE, THAT YOU HAVE TO LEAVE HER HOME, FALL BACK AND GIVE HER SPACE.
So one day.. after almost 9 months of trying, I got a text from my ex asking if I wanted to go get drinks. At this point I haven’t been on a date in what felt like forever. I was at the end of my rope and my bf STILL wasn’t putting any effort into getting a vehicle. So I said yes. It felt good, it felt good getting ready to go somewhere. To have a man pick me up, to drive and have conversations. I don’t know why, but fuck, I missed it. My bf was at work during this time, so once our “catch up” was over, I began hiding my phone… telling lies about where I had been etc. He caught onto this pretty quickly, but honestly, I didn’t care. My ex (first love since I was 18) and I didn’t have sex till about our fifth time hanging out. Long story short, my boyfriend snuck into my phone and I was caught red handed. I didn’t feel bad at the time, I had been telling him how we could better our relationship like a broken record at that point. But I’ll never forget him lying on the couch curled up in a ball crying once he found out. That broke me.
He’ll never forgive me. I ended up seeking medical attention a few months later because I couldn’t stand myself as a person. Think about ending it all… if you know what I mean. I just wish he had listened.. I missed being able to sit in my apartment empty reading a book, watching tv, journaling, going to church, volunteering. I missed myself. I wish he had given me space. I was so suffocated. I wish he just got his temps for us. We could’ve have so many experiences that would’ve strengthened us as a couple. But I know I fucked up. His family put me to shame, he’s bad talked me to my own family, now I can’t face some of them, they don’t like me anymore.
Anyway.. after about a year it doesn’t hurt as bad as it did. I grew up. Yes, I cheated on someone, but you know what, people change. I’m not the same person I was a year ago. I just… want him to know that. I’ve messaged him asking if he wanted to talk, he just leave my messages on read. He’s already had two girlfriends since this. I just hope one day he’ll come around. 21 and 22 have been like night and day for me. I actually go to church now, take myself out to eat, and try to take care of myself as much as I can. I put in the work. I forgave myself. Got help, and started loving myself again. But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss him, that I didn’t want him back sometimes?
Is this still worth fighting for?

2023.05.31 05:18 JamUpGuy1989 Why does my car shake a bit when switching gears?
I've had a 2019 Nissan Sentra since 2021. It was basically brand new when I bought it as the dealer only had 1000K on the car (it was "used" by the dealership to make rounds around the neighborhood before then).
Just tonight I noticed when parking my car that when going between reverse and drive that the car slightly shakes. Nothing too crazy but it is noticeable.
I am taking this to a Valvoline to check it out for transmission but is that what it could be? I have not had the fluid changed at all, to my recollection, since owning this vehicle. So I feel this would be the most obvious issue. I did notice that, in a drive to Vegas this past weekend, the car did struggle a bit going up higher elevations. So that might've started the issue where I am at now. But outside of this I haven't had an issue with the vehicle in over 30K miles now.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

2023.05.31 05:07 Complete_Thought_252 Will new car dealerships give you a better deal if you buy two new cars at once?
My wife needs a new car. We're planning on getting one this summer. But we've also talked about the need for a pickup truck. She doesn't want one of those for daily driving. We're thinking of just getting one as a third vehicle, for when I need to haul something, which happens more often than you might think.
We're planning on paying cash for both. But can we negotiate a better price for both, sort of like we're buying in bulk?
