Why Masonry Repair Matters:

2023.05.31 10:08 EnvironmentalCup8259 Family member coming home from his mission early

One of my family members is on a mission and he messaged me this morning on Facebook and told me that he is coming home tomorrow. I guess he didn’t tell his mission president the full truth about some thing that he did before his mission and now his mission present is sending him home for six weeks. I came home from my mission early, after about a year. It was a horrible experience. I was so judged by people, and felt extreme shame from my family, friends, ward members, and people from my mission. I was home on a medical release, but I also just did not want to be there anymore. Consequently, I fell into a really dark depression, and it took years to come out of it. I stepped away from the church very quickly after coming home from my mission. Anyway, I spoke with this family member’s mom today and she was so sad and upset. I am so worried about him coming home because of his family and where he lives in Utah county. This family member told me not to tell anybody, but that she would send a message out to the whole family. I waited all day for her to say something because he’s literally coming home tomorrow and I feel we should be there (no friends just family) at the airport to support him. He has every intention of going back and told me he felt peace about coming home. She never texted the family and let them know what’s happening. So I’m just feeling very frustrated and worried; he’s dealt with depression before and has been in therapy. And with my experience with my family, I don’t know what to do. Any advice or suggestions?

2023.05.31 09:39 ClassicMembership462 AITAH?

AITAH? Ok so this is a long story and starts awhile back. I (23F) and my long term boyfriend (24M) live together and I would say are in a pretty serious long-term relationship. To give a bit of background: We met in our junior year of high school and started dating the summer before our senior year. We became long distance once we went off to college (I ended our relationship in our 2nd year of college because I felt like we were growing apart and he never really wanted to talk because he just “didn’t like phone calls” even though we were 6-7 hours away from each other (and I missed him SO much). That one phone call in college really made me realize the reality of things which came to be during our 2nd year of college. We were on our weekly phone call when he frustratingly said something along the lines of “we’ll what do you want me to say I just went to class today that’s it” as if he couldn’t elaborate on what he learned in class etc. from this point on I started noticing each and every detail that made me cringe. So fast forward and we were in our senior year of college and we actually ended up getting back together … I would probably credit the COVID -19 pandemic for this. During this time/right after this time of getting back together, my boyfriend’s oldest brother started dating a new girl a couple of years younger than him. So at this point in my life, I was incredibly busy with my graduate school program. I was studying to get a masters in teaching with the hopes of being a high school biology teacher! Due to this, I was unavailable for many outings. One such outing was a day in which my boyfriend went out with his oldest brother, his new girlfriend, and some other friends of my boyfriends. What bothered me from this (many things rubbed me the wrong way after this btw) was that well for 1. my boyfriend is normally very resistant (outright refuses) to be vulnerable with me/anyone else and open up about his feelings, yet when he JUST met his brothers girlfriend he spilled everything to her no questions asked about how he was feeling. This made me feel like shit, obviously since any time I would ask him about his feelings he would refuse to talk about it. I really don’t care if it’s because he was “drunk” because that’s bullshit, he’s been drunk before and refused still to open up to me about how he feels. 2. As if this wasn’t enough, the first time that I “finally” got to meet her (🙄) my boyfriend made me the butt of the joke purposefully in front of her not just once but twice. This is something that he has NEVER done before, so it makes me wonder why now??? Why in front of her?? To make you look like a funny guy?? For what reason?? We were having a conversation in which I was saying something relevant and he looks at me then looks at her and says “anyway” in the most condensing voice possible. Basically as if to say to me “why are you speaking? What you are saying is not even relevant?” I know some of you might say I’m over reacting, but I have known my boyfriend for about 8 years now and he has NEVER made me the butt of the joke like that before. He had never spoken to me in that tone and made me feel that way. It was a new feeling and it felt utterly WRONG. He literally made fun of me and what I was saying to try to seem cool and funny in front of her like what the actual fuck? To add onto this, she goes out of her way to try to hang out with my boyfriend. I don’t mind him being friends with whoever he wants, but come on be real for a moment. She’s one of her brothers girlfriends, like know your place. Y’all know Biden’s “debt relief” that is no longer a thing(unfortunately)? This girl asked my boyfriend out on a coffee date (even though she lives in a different county than him and it’s a DRIVE) to fill out Biden’s debt relief form (when it was a thing). This angered me because the form took me no less than 5 minutes to fill out and honestly her asking my bf to a coffee date to figure out the form together felt like such a FAKE facade to just get to spend time alone together. Most recently, it was just my boyfriend’s birthday. I reached out to his family members (both brothers and his mom) and his close friends to organize a night out. Since she is still dating his oldest brother, I directly included her in the group message for the night out. What bothers me is that, just recently and apparently she has texted my boyfriend about doing a Disney Day for he upcoming birthday. What really bothers me about this is that she STAYS texting my boyfriend,,, even though I directly texted her when I was planning my boyfriend’s birthday. Its SOOOOO easy to do a group chat with the three of us, but she specifically chose not to. That says a SHIT ton. Honestly, I don’t know what to do. I’m not sure if I’m overreacting (I very well could be, but at the same time I feel justified).
On a last note, my boyfriend has 2 older brothers and I have never felt compelled to ask either of them on a coffee date because there is no need to do so. Additionally, I just think it’s disrespectful to 1. make me a joke like that and 2. knowing that I directly messaged you why would you not directly message me? (Regarding the birthday “plans”)

2023.05.31 06:42 huevitoloco From Fantastic to FAIR!!!

From Fantastic to FAIR!!!
I was scheduled for a delivery an Amazon Fresh, 2 hours block. As I was starting, one of the packages was missing, so I had to wait around for a bit until it was sorted out.
Then, the fun part, I had nine deliveries to make. Sounds pretty standard, right? Not today. Most of these deliveries were in some really confusing areas. Imagine buildings with elevators, pay-to-park areas in Irvine, and apartment complexes with tricky access. To top it all off, it was pouring rain in Orange County.
All these roadblocks put me behind schedule by about 30 minutes. Now, this is where it gets frustrating. I've tried to explain to customer support that these delays weren't my fault and asked if they'd consider compensating me for the extra time I put in.
But it seems like they just don't care.
I've also asked them to remove the last two late deliveries from my record. But so far, it feels like I'm talking to a wall. These delays weren't my fault, but it's like they're not hearing me.

2023.05.31 05:14 gingercatmum Asked my roommate if she'd pay more for having her bf over every night. Now she plans to turn my room into "storage"

Venting here because I feel so disrespected.
About a month ago, I made this post about how my roommate's boyfriend has been staying the night every single night. Last week, I texted her (she's always busy so this was the easiest form of communication) and asked if she'd be willing to pay more for utilities and rent since her boyfriend is over every night (I suggested a 60/40 split).
Now, let me preface this by saying my roommate is the only one on the lease, per our landlord's preference since she makes more money than I do. However, I've been paying half of everything, I handle all of our utility payments, and I was the one who found this house for us in the first place (she took over my previous roommate's room in my last house).
Earlier today, I asked her for an update on us splitting bills differently. She didn't answer this question and instead asked me what I planned to do when our lease is up in 2 months. I asked her if she plans to renew since her name is on the lease. She then proceeded to tell me that she plans to renew alone and use my room as storage or an office space. She didn't ask me if I'd be okay with moving out because she'd rather live alone, she just straight up told me she'll be converting my room into an office.
I understand wanting to live alone, but to just tell me she's converting my room into an office?? It feels like I'm essentially being kicked out and she's using her being on the lease as a power move. We also live in the most densely populated county in our state and rent is extremely competitive and expensive here. I told her I would need to start looking for places now and with the market moving very quickly, I'll need to secure a good place as soon as I can. She told me she'll "need to know a little bit ahead of time so she can plan". It feels like she's kicking me out, but it needs to be on convenient terms for her. I don't feel like I was treated as an equal in this conversation or like I had any voice.
tl;dr: asked my roommate to contribute more to rent/utilities for having her boyfriend over every night, and now I'm being kicked out upon the end of our lease.

2023.05.31 04:59 r_I_reddit Forsyth’s Record High Property Assessment Increases: What Can You Do?

This is being discussed in another post but thought this email I got had a lot of information that people might be interested in so decided to post it as a stand alone for those that might not be following that thread:
"After a record setting budget increase from the Board of Education in 2022, Forsyth County property owners are receiving notice this week of record assessment increases of just over 24% (on average). Absent action from the Board of Education, homeowners will be facing another year of significant increases in their tax bill.
While the County has a floating homestead that will offset the increases on the bulk of their portion of the taxes, the School system does not which could result in another record year over year tax increase for Forsyth homeowners. (Note: Voters will have the opportunity to vote on a floating homestead exemption for schools in 2024.)
The County Commissioners and Board of Education members both have the option to “roll back” the millage rate to offset any increase in taxes. The County will still have tax increases on bond taxes and all properties without a homestead exemption without a rollback, but the bulk of the increase for most home owners will be on the School M&O portion of their tax bill. By rolling back the millage to a lower rate, the higher property values are multiplied by a lower millage rate, resulting in lower taxes.
School Superintendent Jeff Bearden has called for a 1 mil rollback in his proposed budget, which would still result in higher taxes for most home owners. Board of Education Member Mike Valdes stated today “ I am personally advocating for a 2-mil rollback” which would eliminate the tax increase for many homeowners.
What can you do if you are concerned about the tax increase?

Contact your School Board member and ask for a full millage rate rollback:

Wes McCall: [email protected]
Lindsey Adams: [email protected]
Tom Cleveland: [email protected]
Darla Light: [email protected]
Mike Valdes: [email protected]

Attend a Public Hearing:

The Board of Education will hold both budget and millage hearings per state law. You can sign up to speak online or 15 minutes before the hearing. More info can be found here.
May 31 u/8:30 am Budget
May 31 @ 9 am Millage
June 15 @ 5 pm Budget
June 15 @ 5:30 pm Millage
June 15 @ 7 pm Millage

File an appeal:

If you believe your property assessment is incorrect, the County has an online appeal option located here by searching for your property and then clicking Appeal to Board of Assessors. You have 45 days from date of the notice to file an appeal"

Nassau County released their tourism commercial today.
They asked people to come by to check out their beaches.
Yet, most of the beaches are private.
Explain this…… which beach is public accessible? (outside of Jones, Long and Lito Beaches)
Atlantic Beach is NOT public accessible. (A resident once said, “go to Long Beach and walk over to Atlantic Beach.”)

2023.05.31 04:01 throwaway21769 It’s amazing how people see my pain through a lens that’s all about them

…and in a way that invariably makes them feel better about themselves, and makes them look “strong” and “good”.
About 7 months ago I escaped from my emotionally abusive family of origin, where I’d been trapped in a bed essentially with migraines everyday for 13 years. Then I caught a break, found a doctor who took my insurance for IV ketamine therapy, it worked, resolved the issue, and I got away from them. I moved across the country. It was a miracle.
Now, the medication has worn off, the pain has returned, but there’s a healthcare crisis here (in many places, I know) and I can’t find a provider that takes my insurance who is also taking new patients where I live now, in Oregon. When you are fleeing domestic violence, even the emotional kind, and you get a window to go, you just go.
But now I’m disabled again and had to take a leave of absence from my job because of the pain. My old doctor will likely treat me again, but that means I have to go back home.
They will hold my job and my housing for me here. It will be here when I come back. So I’ll drop my insurance here, apply for it back home, and when it gets approved, go, get the treatment, and then drop that insurance, apply for insurance back here in Oregon, and then come back.
I think it’s the fastest way to bring my pain from a daily 7–8 sometimes worse, down to a 2 everyday, such that I can work, which I hadn’t been able to do in 13 years.
So get this…
people are judging me about needing to go stay with my family of origin to get treatment.
Like they know what it’s like to fall into the 20% of people who are 💯 disabled from this. We have lost our lives. I am in pain. But they manage to project themselves on to this, and imagine how “strong” they’d be and how they’d just “figure it out”. It’s being framed as immaturity and weakness. It’s wild.
I have no one, but I think I’m going to take a break from the “friend” who made me feel this way today. I’m in high pain all the time almost, except for 1-2 hours in the morning. Smdh.
TL;DR people suck
ETA: I’d leave the county to get the treatment also. I’m considering that as well.

2023.05.31 03:59 reluctantdonkey Do lawyers get alerted when a case is filed by the county recorder?

I filed for a DVRO today. The temp was granted.
I can't get to the person's county/state until tomorrow to get it to the sheriff for service, but it's just now been posted as issued on the court's website.
The restrained party has an attorney of record-- will she get alerted that that's filed? (I was never asked for her information on the DVRO paperwork.)
Trying to sort out when this person will reasonably know they've got a restraining order so I can batten down the hatches!
This is specific to California (location of the petitioner and respondent's AOR.)

2023.05.31 03:30 candysin11 Being sued in the wrong county

I was sued by a law firm for money they claimed I owed them. This was two years ago. The judge sided with the attorney based on the contract and the evidence I had with me was not allowed. I could not afford an attorney as this one took all of my savings so I was pro se. I immediately filed an appeal and requested a jury trial. The appeal was granted but the firm did not pursue things. Fast forward to today, just two months shy of two years and I recieved an email that they had efiled to move forward with the suit. I moved to a different county three months ago and they filed in my old county. Do I need to notify the court and ask that it be dismissed or transferred?

2023.05.31 03:10 Street-Chicken6337 How did y’all get better at pt advocacy?

I’m still a student but I’m three weeks out from taking my basic registry. One of the teaching hospitals in out county has the fancy expensive trauma dummies than that can make bleed, breath in different rates and volumes ect. Well they were at our class today and we were running some trauma scenarios like how it would be in “the real world” vs. what we’ve been practicing for the NREMT. Anyways it’s a group of three so me and two other students. The scenario is that we’re dispatched to a MCC pt wasn’t wearing a helmet and that’s all dispatch knows. When we get up to the “pt” it’s agonally breathing they told us the rate after words it was I think they said 8 a min. But even without fully taking the respiratory rate I knew that we needed to assist the pt with ventilation. One of the other people in my group got on c-spine and we did a jaw thrust to open the airway and tried to insert a OPA but they made it gag so I did a NPA (I now know that that’s a bad idea for possible head trauma. I wasn’t thinking of the contradictions)once we had an adjunct in I said that we should assist with a bvm but the other provider said that a nonrebreather would be fine cause he’s still technically breathing. There was so much happening with this dummy that I was still trying to get my head on straight not to mention my instructor, who I look up to, was standing basically directly behind me and I wanted him to know I’m doing a good job. So I didn’t fully think to like stand my ground I guess on the bvm being the best option for the pt. But after the fact they told us that we should have done a bvm originally like I said we should.
So I guess my question is when you are on scene with other providers how do you advocate for your pt and get your point across that this is best for the pt without stopping and explaining yourself and just having the other providers trust you.
Obviously I’m only going to be a basic so I don’t know as much as a medic and such and these guys were trained at the same level as me but even when it comes to people with higher training. Is it wrong or not my place if a pt is breathing like that and say a cc medic says to do a nonrebreather but the pt would benifit wayyyy more from a bvm? I hope this makes sense what I’m asking but I’ll clarify anything y’all have questions about.

2023.05.31 02:06 Independent_Pain677 Am I being underpaid?

I live in a relatively low COL town in Indiana. Median household income was ~$53,000 in the 2021 ACS.
I graduated college in 2020 (after almost 20 years as a retail manager) with a BS in GIS. I applied for a GIS Technician job at a mid-sized utility, which would have been the second position in a two-man GIS department. I got hired at $52,000 in May 2020.
The week before I started, the previous GIS coordinator put in his notice. We overlapped for a week, and then I was the only person in the department (and, therefore, the GIS coordinator). I've had to learn almost everything on my own.
I've gotten two modest cost of living adjustments, and I now make $57,000. (Accounting for inflation, that's equal to slightly less than $50,000 in May 2020 dollars.)
I have the title of GIS Coordinator, and they never hired anybody else for the second position. I am solely responsible for our ArcGIS Enterprise deployment (patches, troubleshooting, etc.), and solely responsible for all of our mapping. I've expanded our use of webmapping and made some pretty slick tools for both our internal teams and some major investors. For ten months or so, after two project managers left, I was completely responsible for securing all of our permits. They eventually hired one, so now I'm only responsible for some of our permits. (I'm still responsible for the layouts for all of them, though.)
I now have over two years of experience--and probably quite a bit more experience than I would have had if I had just started as a GIS technician. I obviously don't know as much as a GIS coordinator with ten years of experience, though.
I asked my boss (with whom I have a great relationship) about six months ago if we could talk about my compensation. He told me I "definitely deserve a raise." But the president above him vetoed it, because he doesn't think I know as much about the systems administration side as my predecessor did (which, while true, doesn't seem like it's a fair standard to hold me to).
Today, I see a job on Indeed for our direct competitor, who is hiring a GIS analyst and looking for somebody with a year of experience and an associates degree. It pays 65-85k.
A higher COL suburb has a mapping tech job posted for 58-88k, and is looking for somebody with a high school diploma and a year of related experience. Another suburb has a part time GIS tech position posted for 29-41/hour, and the requirements are an associates and a year of experience. My county is hiring a GIS analyst for 52-65k, and wants a bachelor's degree (but no experience is required). The State of Illinois was hiring a GIS trainee last week that pays more than I make.
I'm pretty sure I'm being underpaid, but I want to be sure I'm not just cherry-picking a handful of high paying jobs that support my position. Am I? What should I be asking for (or looking for in a new job)?

2023.05.31 02:04 Burn3r1010 Undocumented individual working for an MLM

An undocumented individual has been working for an unnamed MLM company for a couple of months now. Today, they received a Substitute W-9 form from their bank in which they are requesting a SSN or TIN number. How should I advise this individual to proceed in this situation? They are undocumented. If more details are needed please let me know, looking for opinions on how to handle the situation. I checked the company’s employment agreement, and one of the requirements was being a legal resident of the US, which this individual is not. I am not sure what was written by this individual when they filled out the application, and they are not either. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. County: US. State: Alabama. Disclaimer: I am someone that the individual reached out to as an advocate and I am not connected to the situation and also have limited information.
Edit: the employment agreement they signed also states that they are an independent contractor.
Edit 2: the individual does not know what was filled into the application as someone from the MLM did it on their behalf

2023.05.31 01:41 quita0303 Landlord Code Violation

USA, Washington, King County
Please review my post history if you are interested in the backstory for why I am seeking guidance for the following. After getting in touch with the County Bar Association today, it appears I may not have any recourse available to me, to stay in my apartment. :(
I am obviously hurt and upset by this news. I was asked to get in touch with the City Code Enforcement, but was told they do not interfere in Tenant/Landlord disputes. However, this inspired me to look into any other potential Code Violations my landlord may be guilty of, that I may report him for.
About a year ago he had the home inspected for reappraisal. He asked everyone to "hide" their hotplates for the inspection. (obviously guilty of something) What I could find online regarding the property is it is a Single Family Home, within a R-8400 Zone. According to the property report there are 5 Bedrooms, and 5.5 Baths. In reality there are 6 rooms, which have been converted into private suites. Each has it's own private bathroom and there is a shared bathroom, with toilet and sink in the shared common area. (6.5 Baths) The bathroom in my space has a toilet and shower, but I use the sink in my "kitchenette" for handwashing.
Each tenant has their own lease with the landlord. From what I could find online, I believe it would fall under the category of a Rooming House.
How can I determine if my landlord has the proper license to run his rental this way? Or is there any other evident code he may be in violation of? I even attempted to look into the building permit records for this address, but I think there is a glitch on the webpage and I wouldn't even know what I was looking for anyway.
Please Help!

2023.05.31 01:38 quita0303 Landlord Code Violation
