2023.05.31 01:56 insanelyphat Facebook Marketplace or Ebay...which do you trust the most for used hardware purchases? Also any tips or warnings?
I have been looking to pick up some parts and a used Optiplex for some basic PC use and old school gaming/emulation and I am looking for advice on which route to go.
I have never bought used parts before as I have always built straight off Amazon or Newegg and the warranty's have saved me a few times for sure.
I know they do sell refurbished items on Amazon but the prices on Ebay and Facebook marketplace are so much better.
So any advice or personal experiences I can learn from or be warned about. I know Ebay has some good protections built in and Facebook does as well but only if you buy through them.
Definitely not doing in person purchase only doing online shipped to me.

2023.05.31 01:55 ezferns Scammed by a seller on FB Marketplace. How should I go about reporting to PayPal for a refund?
I bought a product on Facebook Marketplace for $125 last week and it still hasn't arrived. I was quite suspicious of the buyer (and that's why I used PayPal because I thought I could get buyer's protection).
I had asked the seller to send tracking details after he gets home from work and I stupidly paid before I received confirmation of these details because he 'needed money for lunch'. After I pestered later that night for details, he said he had posted via a postage drop box and that he didn't have a tracking number for me. What confirmed my suspicions was when I asked a friend to message him on Facebook Marketplace showing interest in the item that he had just 'sold' to me a week ago, and the seller said it was still available.
The problem is he messaged my a few days ago saying his Facebook had been hacked and not to trust anything the hacker says using his Facebook account. Obviously this is BS but would PayPal think the same when he contests the claim?
What should I include on the report? Should I choose the package not delivered option or the tracking number not provided option? I've heard people getting into difficulty when reporting so I want to make sure my case is fool proof before I submit.
Thanks in advance :)

2023.05.31 01:30 Various-Suspect1600 The SUV Karen yelled at my mom for parking in the wrong spot even though she was standing on the sidewalk to pick up her Facebook marketplace product.
My story of encountering a Karen that I can remember to this day is the one when a Karen in her SUV yelled at my mom for illegal parking even though she was picking up a bought product from the Facebook marketplace.
Here's the story...
It was the year 2021, my mom was shopping on the Facebook marketplace. She bought a Conair Infiniti Pro Spin Air Rotating Styler brush from the platform because she's the type of person who likes to style her hair a lot. The hairbrush was sold on Facebook for $20. The product she bought was 40 km away from our home, so she had to drive there to pick it up. I decided to tag along with her too so I could be her witness if something terrible happened. Our seller's home was located deep inside a residential neighbourhood. The road she drove on became more narrow the deeper we went inside. Finally, we arrived at our seller's apartment. My mom decided to park in a no-parking zone even though she would walk onto the sidewalk and wait there for a few minutes. She thinks it's okay to park as long as your parking there for more than 10 minutes. As she was standing on the sidewalk, she turned on her iPhone data and messaged her seller to announce that she was there. Suddenly, a woman driving her SUV came by. She looked like in her 30s or 40s and ironically had a Karen haircut. Not only that, she had blonde hair and wore glasses. Then, she rolled down her car window and began yelling at my mom. She yelled, " Miss? your parking in an illegal spot!!!". My mom, on the other hand, is not afraid of this kind of entitled people and argued with the Karen back. My mom protested, "I'm just gonna pick up something that I bought". For me, I was inside my mom's car in the front passenger seat and watching the entitled Karen berate my mom, I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to make the situation evolve into classic road rage. "Well why don't you go in there for yourself" Karen replied rudely to my mom. She drove off. Our seller came to my mom with the product in the nick of time. My mom told me everything about the seller that happened earlier. The seller told her not to worry and ignore that entitled person. In the end, my mom gave the 20-dollar bill to the seller and was given the hair styling product. My mom immediately got into her seat and turned the engine on. She was still upset about that Karen yelling at her and suspected that the entitled person was being racist cuz we are both Asian. This was 2 years ago and I can still remember my mom's frustration clearly.

2023.05.31 01:08 bampitt Need to sell a Cannondale road bike
Hi, All! I have a Cannondale women's road bike that I need to sell. It's barely used as I had a knee injury soon after buying it and can no longer ride it.
I want to sell it but don't know where to sell it or how to price it. Obviously, Facebook Marketplace is an option and I've had really good luck with buying and selling things there but I don't know if it works for bikes as well. I also don't want to under-price it as it was a $1100 bike when I bought it. It's only 2 years old.
Any advice is appreciated.

2023.05.31 00:32 nevernotconfusion What’s this marketplace find worth?
I found this chair on Facebook marketplace and had to have it. I’ve tried doing research, but I can’t find anything online. Best I can find is that the style is “Tub Chair” from Hickory Chair, but no information on age or pricing for this exact finish. I’m not sure if it’s custom and it looks like the store in Houston it was shipped to no longer exists.

2023.05.31 00:20 lunelynx Please help me, a cycling amateur, find a bike!
| Hi all, So, I already have a 2016 GT mountain bike. It's a clunky, heavy hand-me-down mountain bike that I do NOT enjoy riding. I'd like to sell it and find something better suited to my lifestyle, (which does not involve hurtling down unpaved trails on a bike). My commute to and from work is about 14 km round trip, and can be done without ever having to leave the bike path! It's great. I almost exclusively ride on bike paths, usually with friends, for exercise, or while commuting to work. I recently had an opportunity to ride my friend's Specialized Langster Moscow 2010 and I fell in LOVE! I always thought I didn't enjoy biking, but it turns out I just really hate my bike. I found this here bike on Facebook Marketplace for $400 (CAD). The frame is 21 inches and I am 6 feet tall. That's all the info I've got. Should I go take it for a test drive or look for something else? https://preview.redd.it/7p1ri8de433b1.png?width=941&format=png&auto=webp&s=f5c9ee45a49e82ac0fff49ba1377ff850438b7c8 submitted by lunelynx to bicycling [link] [comments] |
2023.05.31 00:18 Intelligent_Money_ DIY Recycled Brick Retaining Wall
I want to sense check if I am too audacious here:
With funds being tight following our reno, we have the landscaping which I am hoping to DIY. We need to build a retaining wall to level our backyard and I am thinking of using recycled bricks to build a raised garden bed also Bec we like the look.
I can source recycled bricks off Facebook marketplace for free and am willing to do the work myself over time (haven’t done bricklaying before but I am fairly handy / willing to give it a go). This will save me loads on $$$ rather thank going for other retaining wall options (blocks / sleepers) and labour. The retaining wall / garden bed is only small (say knee high) and does not support any fencing.
Is this a crazy DIY project for a novice? Any tips / resources to get started?

2023.05.31 00:00 PremiumAppleCider LPT: Use air conditioners on the fan setting for powerful white noise sound conditioning
I've lived in a 12 building HOA for 15 years. The biggest challenge for me was dealing with OPN (Other People's Noise) such as trucks, motorcycles, televisions, and heavy spring-hinged slamming doors.
For a long time I've used desktop fans to provide some measure of sound conditioning. It helped to some degree. This winter a family moved in below who are home 24 hours a day. I can't get a moment of peace. Then this spring when I installed my air conditioner it finally clicked that I love it when the air conditioner is running because it's a much more powerful noise blocker.
So, I picked up two used larger ACs on Facebook Marketplace. One was free and the other was $20. The AC doesn't work, but the fans do which is all that I want anyway. What a difference in my quality of life!
I'm exhilarated that for the first time I can actually control my 800 s.f. I sincerely wish that anybody who wants peace in their home can achieve it as well.

2023.05.30 23:02 Glelee How did you find your ideal detailing shop?
I currently own a detailing shop and we’ve been renting from someone we know that owns a large warehouse.
We’ve outgrown our space and need a shop that’s bigger and more client friendly. There’s no office or waiting room to walk into, just a big old warehouse that’s not in a great area.
My question for the businesses out there that have a nice flex space (front office and shop in the back). How did you find it? What are the terms of the lease?
I’ve been looking for quite some time and noticed the supply of flex spaces in my area is extremely low as it is, and when we find one that would be ideal for us, they don’t want any auto-related businesses including detailers. Why that is I’ve never gotten a clear answer.
I’ve been checking Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, and also contacting commercial real estate agents with very little luck. We’re looking at leasing not buying which appears to be even less supply of buildings for lease rather then for sale.
Any thoughts/advice is appreciated!
