Dart gripped the rusty pipe he'd taken as a weapon. Swinging hard, he smashed the giant hissing lizard in the face. He heard a crunch as the creature crumbled, skull caved in.
Breathing heavily, Dart cursed this labyrinthine prison. Made back in the dark ages of the universe, it was meant to be escapable, but your odds were millions to one. First you needed to find a gate key, then you needed to find a gate. At least, that's what all the signs said. Yet he'd been wandering around fighting these stupid lizards and machines.
Caught in his reverie, Dart didn't notice the massive lizard creeping up behind him until it shrieked, biting for the soft flesh between neck and shoulder.
A flash of silver and the Lizard head went flying into the air. A human male kicking dart away even as the creature's acidic blood spurted his direction. The human whipped the axe around, flicking blood off of it before turning and offering his hand.
"Gotta stay sharp kid. This place just waits for a lack of Concentration to throw you a curve ball."
Dart breathed a ragged sigh of relief before taking the human's hand.
"Thank you, I thought I was a gonner."
The human smiled confidently and slid the axe into a holster on his belt.
"Not a problem, name's Jebediah King, I'm somewhat of a veteran of this place."
"Dart, just... Just Dart, I don't even know where 'this place' is... I just wanna go home."
The human frowned sympathetically patting Dart's shoulder before offering a hand to help him up.
"I do too bud, tell you what, I know of a key room near here. It's heavily guarded, but I think I'll be able to fight off the mechs while you snatch the key."
Dart looked suspiciously at the human. Considering the option to hit them with his pipe before running. But the human had their axe sheathed and was otherwise unarmed. Slowly he took Jebediah's hand and let the human haul him to his feet. But, Dart still couldn't assuage his worries just yet. He needed the humans word that he wouldn't hurt him.
"How do I know you won't just kill me after I get the key? Your species doesn't have the best reputation for when you're backed into a corner."
Jebediah looked hurt, but nodded in understanding.
"If that was the case, I'd have asked you to fight the mechs while I grab the key."
Dart nodded cautiously, the human's logic was sound.
"Okay, lead the way."
Jebediah nodded and drew his axe before turning and starting to walk down the hall in the direction Dart had come from.
"Back this way you're normally inserted within a few hundred yards of a key room."
Dart bobbed his head and followed on Jebediah's heels. The metal corridor stretching on far longer than what felt like a few hundred yards. Occasionally they came into contact with the mechanized guards or giant lizards. But with a little bit of teamwork and Jebediah kiting them around, they escaped most combat unscathed. Eventually, a door with a little key symbol engraved on it appeared around a bend. Jebediah paused and stopped Dart from immediately opening the door.
"An alarm is going to sound when this door opens, it's going to draw a lot of baddies our way. What I need you to do is sprint as fast as you can across the key room and start the key-making progress then wait until you can grab the key. Once you have a key everything should leave you alone."
Dart nodded along, looking at the door with apprehension. He looked back at Jebediah.
"What do I do if you die?"
Jebediah smiled.
"Not happening, now, when I open this door you've got approximately three minutes to get in, get a key made and get back to me before the prison fills the room with a poisonous gas. Ready"
Dart looked from Jeb to the door, then he closed his eyes, took a deep breath, opened his eyes and nodded.
Jebediah swung the door open and Dart ran in as a wailing alarm split the air. Dart had no issues spotting the massive red button marked "make key." He kept over an inactive machine and slammed the button, making the room hum to life as the machinery began to move.
Nervous and on the clock, Dart watched Jebediah's fight.
Axe and owner danced through machine and lizard alike. The bearded blade of the axe biting deep into both flesh and exposed circuitry. Beams of light scorched the rust from the walls and acidic spit reapplied it as the axe welding maniac dodged the shining crystal gaze of the mechs and acidic saliva from the lizards. A loud Beep sounded from the button and an odd blue crystal dropped out of a chute.
Elated, Dart began running back towards Jeb.
A mech raised it's arm from where it lay legless on the ground.
A lizard bit into Jebediah's axe arm, halting the swing that would've ended the mech.
The Mech's gauntlet flashed and boomed as a kinetic projectile ripped through Jebediah's body a few inches below the sternum.
Dart screamed his defiance, leaping over a still running machine and bringing Jebediah into the Key's safe zone.
The Mechs deactivated, the lizards ran, Jebediah crumpled, bleeding profusely.
Dart knelt by what he could safely call his only friend, ripping off his own shirt he packed it against the human's wound. Frantically trying to calm the panicked man down.
"I've got the key, don't die on me Jeb!"
The human's eyes sharpened and he shook his head, clutching the shirt to his wound. Jebediah took a breath and hacked up some blood before saying.
"You're gonna have to carry me, I think it clipped my spine... Please... don't leave me behind Dart..."
Fear entered the human's eyes and dart froze. He had the key, he could just run... But Jebediah had risked his life to give him the time to do it. He couldn't pay back the human's kindness with betrayal. He swallowed and nodded.
"I've got you, gimme your uninjured arm."
Breathing heavily, Jebediah slung his good arm around Dart's neck. The young Filosian struggling slightly under the human's weight. Carrying Jebediah free, he asked.
"Where's the exit Jeb? We gotta get you to a doctor."
The human was growing pale as he responded.
"The exit's back where you started.. it's... It's that metal archway you woke up beneath."
Dart nodded, pushing his burning legs to go faster as he retraced his steps to familiar territory. Leaving a trail of Jeb's blood in his wake. Dart turned a corner, spotting the jagged edge of a pipe jutting from the wall. The place he'd gotten his pipe. At the next intersection, he turned left and found himself at the arch.
Dart panted excitedly, gently setting Jeb down against the wall saying.
"It's okay I'll get it activated and we can-"
The human grabbed Dart's arm, a sad, sad smile on his pale face.
"Just you man... Just... Just you. My journey ended a long time ago. I just wanted to make sure somebody got out before... Before I could rest. Thank you, Dart for being my friend... And Thank You... For... Making... It... Out......."
Jebediah's eyes glazed over, the smile on his face and the words on his lips dying with him. Like ash on a windy day, the human's flesh darkened and blew away. Leaving only a pile of bones and a rusty pair of holo-tags.
Dart looked down at the bones. They weren't Jebediah. They weren't Jebediah. They weren't Jebedia-
He felt the tears coming as he looked back. A trail of rust in that streaked from the door to the pile of bones. Dart let himself cry as he fell to his knees, gently taking Jebediah's holo-tags. The holographic tags weakly shone when he tapped their buttons.

REASON FOR DISHONORABLE DISCHARGE AND IMPRISONMENT: INSUBORDINATION. ASSAULT ON A HIGH-RANKING OFFICER.

Dart slowly stood, gripping the holo-tags so tight his knuckles turned white. He staggered to the arch and set the key crystal in a slot at the top. Before he walked through, he looked back at the pile of bones before taking off the shirt he'd thought he'd taken off to staunch Jebediah's bleeding.
Tying the sleeves and neck closed, Dart gently collected Jebediah's bones into the makeshift bag with tears in his eyes.
"I'm not leaving you behind Jeb... We're both getting out of here..."
Setting his friends skull gently on top of the rest, Dart cradled the bag as he stepped through the archway.
"I don't care if it takes the rest of my life... I'll get you home Jeb... I'll get you home..."

A little context: I (23F) am doing really well with my life. I have a stable job that is average-paid, enough to take care of myself, and to save up even though I don’t have a degree (which is normal I think). I got divorced last year but I don’t have any kid so now I think I’m having my best life.
My sister (29) got divorced last year also, she and her kid (6M) are living with mom (48).
Our mom loves it when she is needed, therefore she has no problem with my sister moving in or even relying on her finance. But my mother doesn’t have any income, she’s living on her pension which is enough for her only. And now when things are getting harder and harder, my mom is really stressing out. Our dad passed away 13 years ago.
Let’s be honest, my sister and I were both raised in the same environment, but I don’t want to be independent. I hate it when I have to ask my mom for basic needs like books, snacks, gas or… tampon since high school. But my sister would just ask, even now. She does have a job, and her salary is enough for her and her son if she doesn’t have to pay for any household bills (which she doesn’t). But it seems like she never feels enough, sometimes she would call me and lend me some money because she doesn’t want to explain to mom why she needs that amount of money. At first I was okay, but now I’m not.
Few days ago my mom called me and complained about how it’s hard to take care of her child and her child’s child. And I told her “then don’t do it”. Then mom immediately said I was so disrespectful, said she was my bigger sister and I had to take care of her “when mom is not on this earth anymore” no matter what. And I said “no, I do not”. I told her, that my sister doesn’t need help, she needs to learn how to get her life together. Was mom mad? Hell yeah. She said she couldn’t believe I would just abandon my sis like that. So I had to explain to her why I said that, and I couldn’t believe in my mother’s response: “Your sister is vulnerable, she needs to be protected”
Let me just quote everything:
Me: Mom, she older than me. She has a degree which I don’t, she supposed to have a better job to take care of her own and her son.
Mom: She can’t do a better job, those better jobs are stressful, you know your sis can’t work under pressure.
Me: Okay, then it’s not my responsibility to fulfill her needs especially when she should be the one who needs to work harder for her own needs.
Mom: But she is still heart-broken since her divorce.
Me: So am I.
Mom: She’s not sharp enough.
Me: Yo mom you know if me and sis both send our CV to a company she would have a higher chance to make it to the interview than I do right?
Mom: Well, she has her own kid.
Me: So will I! One day! And you want me to take care of her and my own kids all at once. Hell no mom.
And then she talked about how physically sick my sis is. Let me tell you this ridiculous stories: Everytime I get a call from my mom, saying my sis is in the emergency room, I would roll my eyes. Why?

• “Hey your sis is having a stomachache” -> When I got there, she was eating something and laughing.
• - “Hey your sister is having a bad headache” -> Was watching tiktok on her “patient’s bed”
• - “Hey she maybe broke her legs, we x-raying” -> Literally was walking normally and the X-ray showed no injured.

I hate to say this but I am as sick as that, and I’m visiting hospital every month. My mom has only known about this few weeks ago when I told her I can’t send her money anymore since my medicine is quite more expensive than I expected.
I couldn’t persuade my mom. And my sis heard what I said, she cried and said I’m so selfish for not understanding that she is having mental illness and she couldn’t try to do anything better.
Well this triggered me because I had a phrase when I was deeply depressed, and it was definitely hard to get my life together. I’m starting to think I am the asshole in this story. Especially when there was only me has that opinion in my family. My cousin even said, some people can’t be any better and we have to accept it! *

After the school completed I was returning back .. When I went inside my house .. I saw my mom and dad crying .. when I came inside they looked at me in a creepy way .. I also was shocked after seeing them .. boz at this time my parents should be at office .. I didn't asked them a single word and went in my room . But I realised that my parents were still watching me in a creepy way .. I went inside my room and closed the door .. I was scared of their behaviour . As I was going to change my clothes I heard a strange noise outside .. I opened and saw my parents sitting in sofa .. my father told me to make a milk tea .. I hurried and made him the tea as fast as possible .. But when I gave him the tea . He told me to put the tea at the table .. I took my phone which was in charged . As I was moving towards my room .. I saw a call in my phone and pick it up .. There was my mom in the phone .. she told me that they were going to my uncle house .. When I heard that I collapsed .. As I turned my head . I saw my father and mother watching me and smiling in a creepy way .. As I looked at them . My father stood up and looked at me I realised that my father eye has turned black .. As he told me in a creepy sound " Come to your father " .. I was fricked out and hurriedly closed the door .. Both of my parent were banging the door .. And shouting " Open the door sweetie " But as they got louder and louder .. my parents voice turned into a veryyyy loud and creepy voice . I hurried and called my parents .. But I realize I don't have balance to call back .. So I hurried and called the cops .. The lock on the door was also going to broke . Lucky the call was picked by a officer .. he asked me " what happened " ..I didn't have any word to tell .. so I shouted " Help Help me plzz😭😭 .. In a hurry I told him my address .. but before I would complete the full sentence .. The door opened . And my eyes went blank .. After a while I was in my bed .. There were cops . My parents were outside .. As they saw me waking up they came running to me and asked what happened .. I just told them a lie .. that was a theft .. As my parents were talking to the cops .. I saw towards the table and saw a cup .. As I realized .. I saw a shadow towards the hallway .. After that incident I went to my sister house to living . For couple of days. RIGHT now .. I study at grade 12 but that days still Hunt me .. Till now I haven't forgot those creepy sound .. and smile at there face ..

Hi! I have assembled a modlist together of mods I want to use and I have used MO2 and LOOT and everything I have read. It was working fine for awhile but I removed RSchildren because it wasn't working properly and all the children faces looked weird and stretched out, so I replaced it with simplechildren. Now, instead of weird children it doesn't open at all but loads the main menu forever. Any help would be nice! Here is my load order from LOOT. I am on the latest version of AE, btw.

Buckle up, this is a long story, but it's been a long year for me. I'm trying to keep things brief without leaving out too much of the juiciest drama, since I know some people live for shit like this. Just bear with me. I (19 FTM) met a guy (20) back in Sophomore year of HS, his alias is gonna be Three. We ate lunch together every day with a big group, but it was always me, him, and another friend who were the closest. We fell out of touch for a while until a concert at the end of February last year, and after that he spent most of his free time at my house. I fell pretty hard for him, I was open about it, and we decided to go the fwb route since he had said he would date me, but that he wasn't sure how he felt, and I didn't initially have any problems with that.
Back in October of 2020 a coworker (22 F) and I had decided to move in together, so I asked her if she'd be comfortable with him living there as well; he and I had established we were more than comfortable sharing a room, and since we'd been friends for over 4 years, we knew we got along well. She agreed, we all moved in together, and another friend, Tat (20 NB), asked the night of the lease signing to stay as well. I wasn't really sure how I felt about it, especially with it being my first ever apartment, I didn't want to get in trouble for breaking our lease immediately after moving in. Still, I cared a lot about Tat and had known them for over 3 years, so I decided to leave it to my coworker. I asked her what she thought, and she said it would be fine for them to stay a few nights a week. After about two weeks she told me that they were fine to officially move in. The first month was everything I could've dreamed living on my own would be like and more. My friends and I went out all the time, Three and I were all over each other the first few weeks, and though I was exhausted all the time from working two jobs, I was almost always working with at least one of my roommates, and I had my own independence for the first time in my life, so the physical taxation seemed pretty worth it.
I was still struggling with my feelings for Three, and asked him many, many times to tell me whether or not he did have feelings, explaining I wouldn't be upset with either outcome, but that it would be good to know if he didn't so I could move on emotionally. Any time I tried to talk about it, he would shut down, and the lack of communication from his end really got to me in a bad way. From Apr-Aug I almost solely confided in Tat about this situation, since they were my "official" best friend. They told me to forget about him, listing every reason to do so, told me on multiple occasions that he wasn't even attractive, I could do better, etc. In August, 6 months after I had initially confessed to him, Three wrote me a note to say he didn't reciprocate my feelings. I broke down and admitted myself to a hospital.
Now, Three had been sleeping in Tat's room for a while already, which I did initially have an issue with mainly because I hated sleeping alone. I also talked to him multiple times to explain that Tat moved in to have their own space, and every time I mentioned to Tat how upsetting it was for me they would agree it was shitty of him to leave bed in the middle of the night like he did, and tell me they didn't want him to sleep in their room either. After about a month, they changed their mind and said they were fine with it, so I let go of the issue. I never had any suspicions that the two even liked each other romantically- all of my time was spent with Three and Tat, and we would all hang out in Tat's room almost daily. Then, on Oct 3rd last year, Tat told me, "you probably already had an idea, but Three and I are dating." I felt immediately betrayed. They explained how long they'd had feelings. They said they forced themself to miss their shitty ex in order to stay emotionally unavailable. They said they felt like an awful friend, and they'd get it if I never spoke to them again. I told them I was upset and would need some time to process it all, as much as I wanted to be happy for them. I just told Three to take care of Tat, and didn't have much contact with either for a few days, maybe a week at most. Keeping track of time was difficult in the moment, and now it's been nearly a year since this all happened, so I don't quite remember. Point is, after Tat told me about their relationship, that room always had a closed door.
I couldn't sleep, I could barely eat, and I overall felt the loneliest I'd ever been up to that point. It was an awful adjustment to make, going from spending all day every day with these people to hardly even seeing them. I talked to them both after that first week and said I was still in a bad place mentally and needed time to get used to their relationship, layed my boundaries out (I couldn't handle hearing about dates or their sex life, which I still think was fair given the situation), and said that I was genuinely happy for them. I understood that as a couple they wanted some alone time, but I missed them, and I felt that I was unwelcome in what was now their shared space since the door was always closed. Nothing really changed, so I stayed with a different friend for a while and prayed space would help me get my shit together. I also thought it was a good time to reach out again about my feelings. After ignoring the message for two days, Tat offered no sympathy, said, "nobody should feel that awful for that long of a time," and, in another message where they called my new friendship codependent, "you cannot rawdog your mental health issues [...], you cannot rely on social interaction to feel ok [...], zoloft does nothing for bipolar disorder." I didn't disagree with the individual statements, but they didn't really apply to what was actually going on, and Tat seemingly refused to acknowledge why I actually felt the way I did, so I didn't respond.
On my next visit home, I found out from coworker roommate that Tat had hit Three multiple times while both were drunk at a Halloween party. I was horrified, but kept silent yet again, feeling it wasn't my place to judge their relationship. Aside from that revelation, the day was surprisingly normal, and it was the first time I'd felt comfortable at home in a month. Three and I spent around 6 hours playing Minecraft, talking, and joking the way we always had. It felt nice to know that our friendship was still alive, even though I had been a shit friend between June and July.
Then Tat got back from their family's thanksgiving dinner, immediately aggressive. They tore off Three's hat and threw it on my bed, then slammed their door hard enough to shake the whole room, which triggered my PTSD. Three left right away, and I texted to ask Tat not to slam doors while I'm home. They apologized, said they were in 'crisis mode' and that it was the first time they had slammed a door like that in over three years. I'd seen them slam the door (not quite so hard, and not with anger pointed at me, which is why it never bothered me before) in the time we lived there alone, but I didn't say anything because it obviously wasn't the right time to bring up a relatively harmless inconsistency. Three added on a brief exit from the room that Tat was, "in a lot of physical pain right now." Felt like a pretty weak excuse to behave like an asshole, but again, I didn't say anything. I just handed him his phone, hat, and vape, which he'd left on my bed in his rush to leave.
After that, things got worse and worse, until by December I was ready to move out. I brought up my issues in our groupchat where we sent schedules, bill info, and other relevant apartment things. On top of the fucked up personal issues, our electric/gas bill was over $200 for Nov, and the Dec bill was going to be almost $280. Usually Three and I would split the bill half and half, but it wasn't really reasonable for us to do that with such a high electric bill. I told everyone how ridiculous the bill was, said some basic stuff about saving energy and not having lights on or the heat up high, and asked that everyone chip in for December. In the end, I got $75 from Three and nothing from anyone else. I once again took to the groupchat with my issues, said this was my last straw and that I couldn't pay out the ass to live somewhere I no longer even felt comfortable sleeping, and my coworker roommate, who had initially asked to move in together, told me that if I didn't like the responsibility I had agreed to, then I should just move out. So I did.
I took myself off of the lease and moved in with the friend I'd been staying with, who is now my gf, and for a while things were genuinely good, as much as losing those friendships really hurt me. But my gf has mental things to sort out herself, so I've been staying with my mom since the end of May while she gets some much-needed help. Since this break started though, I've been having nightmares about how everything went down last year where I wake up in a cold sweat, shaking, and I've even had dreams about living with them all again, talking things through, and being happy. I started checking Tat's social media around once a week, just wondering how them and Three are doing. They live in their own place together, a condo Tat's grandma paid for, meanwhile I'm now jobless and miserable and somehow more alone than before. I'm living in the home I ran away from at 17, constantly reminded why I left back then to begin with, and it's even worse having had that taste of freedom, however brief. I blame myself to some extent for everything that's happened, since I made a series of bad decisions and then was the only one upset when things went tits up, but at the same time the friendship was genuinely traumatizing, and I'm unironically more distraught about losing the three friendships I lost than I am about any of the fucked up and illegal things I've been through/witnessed. I feel like I can't even make friends anymore and, more than anything, that I just shouldn't bother for the sake of others. I didn't just fuck things up for myself, I ruined my coworker's hopes of living in a calm environment, I ruined Three's refuge from his own shitty family, and I ruined my friendship with Tat. Even if I look back on things with Tat especially and realize how they constantly made demeaning or underhanded comments about my body, gender identity, and personality, I still miss the good times. I wish I had tried harder to communicate, I wish I hadn't done a lot of things. Sometimes I wish I could just forget the past year altogether.

I recently turned 39, which we can all agree is ancient by internet standards. Overwhelmed with nostalgia, I decided to replay a pair of games that I played all the time as a youth in the 90s: id Software's seminal first-person shooter DOOM and its sequel, DOOM II. I won't waste your time or mine by recounting how revolutionary and influential these games were at the time, but suffice it to say they were a pretty big damn deal and they certainly blew my tiny mind.
I say "replay", but as a kid I never actually sat down and just played through the games from start to finish. I'd load up a game on my trusty 486 computer and mess around with the cheat codes: IDDQD, IDKFA, IDCLIP, IDCLEV. Over the years I'd seen all of the levels but not necessarily in the right order, and I definitely hadn't completed them all fair and square. I decided it was time to change that.
First step was getting a source port so that the game would run and look the way I wanted it to on my modern (but extremely underpowered) laptop. I went with Woof!, which adds a few modern amenities like widescreen support and higher resolutions without significantly changing the way the game looks or plays. Most people will recommend that you use GZDoom, but on its default settings it adds texture filtering, particle effects, transparencies, bullet and blood decals, mouse aiming, jumping, and hundreds of other little additions, until it doesn't look or play anything like the games that id released in 1993. GZDoom is a must if you want to play a lot of modern mods, but if you just want to play the original games and have them run flawlessly even on a potato laptop like mine, I'd go with Woof!
So, with the setup complete, it was onto the games. I played on Ultra-Violence difficulty (basically hard mode). I wasn't concerned with 100% completion so I missed out on a lot of secrets and most of the secret levels, but otherwise I completed all four episodes of Ultimate DOOM, followed by the thirty main levels of DOOM II.
And I had a goddamn blast.
These games have aged so perfectly. Maybe it's that omnipresent nostalgia talking, but they still look, sound and play so well. For starters, the pixel art is iconic and still looks amazing. Many sections across the two games are dripping with atmosphere, with their flickering lights, creepy environmental details like twitching corpses and distorted faces, and otherworldly architecture. The levels are all made for pure gameplay: it wasn't until Duke Nukem 3D and similar games that designers started making maps that were grounded in reality. Even the supposedly Earth cities of the second game are bafflingly complex game spaces criss-crossed by narrow walkways and gated off by colour-coded keys. It lends the games an aesthetic that, to me, is timeless. Enemy sprites are full of personality and instantly recognisable, and still terrifying when you turn a corner and bump into them without expecting it.
All of those iconic sound effects are perfectly chosen too. The hissing of imps and cacodemons, the roar of a cyberdemon, the cackle of an archvile, the punchy sound of your trusty shotgun, the metallic screech of a closing door. And the music, mostly MIDI homages to popular metal songs of the 80s, layers perfectly on top of the action. We all remember the classic E1M1 theme with its widdly-widdly "guitar" riff, but the soundtrack has more atmospheric and almost "creepy" tracks than I remembered, especially in the second game.
And gameplay-wise, it feels like a breath of fresh air in its simplicity, or rather, its lack of excess or distraction. I really enjoyed the more recent DOOM games, but with all the levelling up and complex interplay of weapons and buffs, they're a very different kind of experience. Classic DOOM just has you and your guns and a million billion monsters and maybe a couple of keys, and that's as complex as it needs to be. Each weapon is useful in various circumstances and feels satisfying to use, and each enemy presents its own challenges. The infinite combinations of those weapons and enemies can lead to engaging and surprising gameplay even after playing dozens of levels. And the levels themselves start out simple but gradually add complexity until you're navigating otherworldly mazes with multiple paths, but I never got stuck at any point and never had to resort to a walkthrough. It's all laid out in a way that makes sense in context, and that's just damn good design.
Honestly, I've been pretty burned out on gaming for years now, but once I started playing DOOM again, I was hooked. I'd be at work or the gym and I'd actively want to get home to play another few levels. After I finally defeated the Icon of Sin at the end of the second game, I wasn't ready to call it quits, so I blasted through the bonus episodes Sigil (made by original designer John Romero, of "making you his bitch" fame) and No Rest for the Living (from the Xbox port of the game), as well as a couple of other maps made by Romero, such as one he made to raise funds for Ukraine. And even now, I'm contemplating jumping into one of the thousands of other "wads" made by fans over the years...
The last couple of weeks have been one of those rare times where you go back to something you loved as a kid and discover that not only is it just as good as you remember, but it's actually better. DOOM and its sequel are superbly designed games that have stood the test of time. They're scary, they're atmospheric, they're challenging, and they're a hell of a lot of fun.
Next, I'll be moving onto id's next game, Quake. As a teenager Quake took over my entire life, without exaggeration. I was writing FAQs about it on the prehistoric internet and uploading them with my screechy 33.6k modem. I even have the logo tattooed on my wrist. We'll see how good it looks in my rose-tinted glasses soon.
But before that, maybe just a few (dozen) more DOOM wads...

Is there any kind of product that can quickly and easily switch the inputs and outputs of an Ethernet cable?
Let me explain: I have a 50 metre ethernet cable going from my living room to my garden shed bar.
Currently it connects the bar TV to an HDMI over Ethernet extender so that i can watch the living room fire stick / Apple TV / cable tv etc in the shed bar.
But it would also be good to have strong wifi in there. I don’t want to install another cable but I wondered if there was anything that could let you easily switch between one or the other?
Like, some kind of 2 in 1 out ethernet switch, one at each end? So the cable could connect either two routers (when I want strong wifi) or the HDMI extender and receiver (when I want to watch TV). I’ve googled but am not really getting anywhere.

My roommate (F20) moved in 6 weeks ago with me (F21) and our three other roommates (F19-21). One of which only moved in a week and a half ago.
As a house filled with college students we pride ourselves on being clean and keeping our shared spaces tidy. We work with a roster and everyone gets one chore a week that has to be done at the latest Wednesday.
In the time this roommate, let’s call her ‘A’, has lived her she hasn’t once done her chore on time or properly. For example: She had to clean the kitchen, but didn’t clean de fridge or the cabinets or the stove. So when I told her she didn’t do it properly she first denied it but eventually said she would do it the next day but never did.
She is the only one of us that is home all day, because she is currently taking a gap year and in between jobs. The rest of us have school, work and internships. Yet somehow every morning when I get up there’s cups and plates and empty food cartons everywhere. We were gonna talk about her cleaning up or lack thereof yesterday. Before we could A received a dm from a guy she hooked up with that he had scabies. Which ofcourse sucks bc if she had it we al mostlikely have it. So we were all bummed and said some choice words. While the possible scabies isn’t fun the real problem was how she handled the situation. She got mad at us for being annoyed and when all of us started cleaning and putting everything in bags she did nothing.
We asked everyone to come outside and discuss our situation. A tried walking away and leaving so I told her if she left right now she wouldn’t have to come back. We expressed our annoyance at the way she handled the situation and all she said is that we should be more understanding of her and that we shouldn’t yell at her. All while yelling at us. When then tried explaining that it wasn’t just this incident it’s more an accumulation of her not doing her chores, not cleaning up after herself and her being rude about it. She just started playing the victim. So I lost it and I told her I think she’s a lazy and gross human being and that I am not her mom so she has to move out. While I stand behind what I said I do feel a guilty for being so harsh about it.

This happened to me many years ago when I was in seventh grade. I lived in Oklahoma.
One morning I was about to walk to school and was standing at the kitchen sink finishing the last of a glass of milk before I left. My kitchen at the time had a window right above the sink (as many do) that looked out onto our backyard.
The backyard had chainlink fencing and, on the south side, there was an alley that ran between my fence and the fences of the houses that were just south of mine.
The alley exited right next to the front yard of my house and onto the street that my house faced. The two houses south of mine, whose backyards were separated from mine by the alley, had an open space between them that was almost like a vacant lot, but not big enough for a house. It was grass covered and sat between those two houses.
So, I'm standing at the window, finishing my milk and looking absentmindedly out at the backyard when I see two horses (one black and one brown), without saddles or any tack on them at all, run leisurely side by side down the alley next to my backyard.
They then make the left turn and run into that empty grass covered area between the two houses to my south. Not believing what I just saw, I slam my milk glass down on the counter and run out my front door to see where the horses have gone.
I run outside and over to the next street, which is just 40 feet or so away from my house, and there are no horses, no horse trailers that might have been carrying horses, no pickups that might have been towing a horse trailer, no people outside at all and no sound of hooves on the streets anywhere in the neighborhood.
There would have been no way that the horses could have escaped my seeing them again as they weren't running full speed and I would have at least heard the sound of their hooves on the next street over where they would have to have exited. There were no people outside and no horses anywhere to be seen or heard in my neighborhood.
I told my sister about this as she was still inside the house in her room getting ready to walk to school with me, but she didn't believe me because her bedroom window looked out onto that alley and she had been in her room the entire time and should have heard the hoofbeats as the horses went by her window.
In my mind, I can still see those horses running by like it was yesterday and I KNOW what I saw.
I have no explanation for how those two horses completely disappeared and have chalked it up to me just being at the right place and the right time to witness some residual event.

last night I became lucid, I was in my living room and my family was there, I got excited saying I’m in a dream everyone looked at me, they go what are you talking about , I asked them one by one how did they get to this current moment they all said they don’t know one guy said where dreaming aren’t we?as if he had just realized like me, I looked at him and said became lucid with me , but it became hard to talk they all knew we were dreaming but they didn’t know I was the one dreaming I said you all are in my dream. Their faces got almost sad as if their life was pointless I instantly said your all real to me let’s go out and explore this lucid world together, one lady said I’ll disappear if I go outside I said no u won’t your with me, but they did not leave that dreamspace except my lil brother he said I need shoes I snapped my finger and he had shoes I was surprised by my control because making things appear on command is something I have hard time, I opened the door nd when we stepped outside I had this feeling I’m going wake up if I go to far out there, I said maybe she was right bout disappearing my lil bro stepped out farther so I followed , everything was a tint of blue almost all my senses were working I that I found hard way tried to fly but hit ground nd I felt the rocks I hit I go if this a dream how I feel that I told my brother can he keep reminding me I’m in a dream he said that impossible for him………..

My roommate (F20) moved in 6 weeks ago with me (F21) and our three other roommates (F19-21). One of which only moved in a week and a half ago.
As a house filled with college students we pride ourselves on being clean and keeping our shared spaces tidy. We work with a roster and everyone gets one chore a week that has to be done at the latest Wednesday.
In the time this roommate, let’s call her ‘A’, has lived her she hasn’t once done her chore on time or properly. This is a retrospective question as the relationship broke down for several reasons.
From a young age, I've always worked my butt off and always put money aside. I always lived with my parents, and by 26, i was able to afford half a house (with a 20 year mortgage). My dad earns quite well, and suggested that he and I each go halves on a two bed. I'd live there, and we'd rent the other room to pay off my dad's half of the mortgage.
I'd been with my girlfriend for about a year at this point. She spends what she earns, with zero savings. I suggested that she and her daughter move in, paying the cost of my dad's half of the mortgage, which was about half the cost of renting, elsewhere. Her daughter would have her own bedroom, and we'd share the other bedroom.
She got upset because she felt that she and her daughter should be able to live in my house for free... Her mum got involved and said that I was selfish and tight with money, and that a 'real man supports his woman and children'.
The house discussion was always in the hypothetical stage, but I decided 'fuck it. Renting is easier than buying'. In the end, we rented together, and both paid more than we otherwise would have in mortgage repayments.
Was there a better way to handle the situation?
tldr: I would have been in a financial position to buy a house with my dad. My girlfriend of one year expected to live in the house for free with her daughter.

i was reading about carl jung and synchronicities and in the corner of my room a very bright light appeared for a split second temporarily blinded me. this experience put me into shock. once i gathered my senses i came to the conclusion that there was no logical explanation for what happened as there was no nearby light source as well as no electrical components near that area. the light was white and extremely bright around the size 6 foot/ 183cm. any idea what this could mean?

Well, that's it. I F27 just watched my M29 bf get himself off via living room cam.Literally like 10 minutes ago, I was laying in bed waiting for him when I realized he was taking a lil bit longer than usual so I checked the living room cam, and there he was in all his glory.
Is it bad of me that I watched? I made him panic everytime I would pretend to get up to go to the living room, I did ask him what he was doing a few times. I wanted to know what he was watching and who he was talking to, why he would instantly pick up his phone every time I left the room and place it face down as soon as I entered.
I know our relationship is in turmoil but like damn, that still kind of hurt..He came into the room like nothing ever happened, made a bit of banter to me about the show I'm watching and is out cold, lmfao. Didn't even bother with much of a clean up too. I know he doesn't see me as the most attractive anymore, but he doesn't even try. Guess this just kind of confirms where I stand lmfao.
I just don't know if I should confront him with his history given, or if I should just let it slide. I don't know if I should break my own heart enough to snoop and see what he was getting off too. I'm curious..

Everyday that goes by feels like I’m closer to just ending it all. I feel alone and unloved and it’s gotten to the point where I just lay in bed all day. There’s no point in doing anything as anything and everything I do either just ends up being fruitless or isn’t enough. My folks decided to homeschool me and then proceeded to neglect me for years after the fact. I was isolated from the outside world and abandoned when I needed people the most. I can say with full sincerity that life hasn’t been the same after that. Being alone and I mean abjectly isolated from everything for that long just isn’t right and I don’t feel good about it even years later, especially since it lead to my lack of success in dating, speaking or employment. Sure I’ve built a lot but it pales in comparison to what could’ve been the case had I just been raised normally.
Whatever, no one cares anyways. There’s no fucking point in living. I’m just another lonely 20-something year old guy, we’re like a dime a dozen now and no one cares. I’m 18. I’m a teen mom. I had my daughter when I was 17. Me and her father (19 at the time) were just a one night stand and I ended up pregnant. We ended up dating a few months into my pregnancy and have been together ever since we even got married. I have no supportive family my mother is a drug addict and my father still lives with his mother. I had just gotten out of a group home so I started living with him and his family. To say it’s been hard is an understatement. Ever since I’ve had my daughter living here has been hell. I’ve fallen into such a deep depression that I barley leave our room and it’s taking a toll on our daughter. She’s almost a year and needs to eat meals and I will only leave the room if my husband is home. I ended up pregnant again and honestly I regret it. I don’t feel connected to this baby I’ve hid it from everyone because I don’t want to deal with it. It’s heartbreaking because we have been trying to move out for months but the housing market is so bad. We can’t even look into a apartment in the state we’re in. We keep getting rejected even tho we have money saved and my husband has good credit. I don’t want to bring another baby into this world living in this house. I don’t want my daughter to grow up and me not giving her what she needs because of where we live. My husband tries so hard and he does so well. Our daughter loves him, he’s her favorite. As for me it feels like she hates me. Ask she does is bite me, hit me, screams at me. She misses him throughout the day and it makes me feel like why am I even here. My whole job is to raise her and I’m failing. How am I gonna raise another kid when this one already hates me. I’ve thought of giving this baby up for adoption but I know I will regret it. I just wanna have this baby and leave. I don’t want to be here anymore. With me out of the picture my husbands family would help him. They hate me and his relationship with them would get 10x better without me here. Our daughter loves him and Ik this one will too. He’s such a great dad Ik he would be able to do it. unfortunately my living situation isn’t the best it’s just crowded and I’m sharing a bedroom with my grandma and lately I’ve just been getting so irritated with her like I still love her because she’s family but sometimes I just want to yell at her, she was gone for the past 2 weeks and I had the room all to myself and it was fine but now she’s back and all I’m feeling is like anger and I don’t want to feel that way but oh my god I want to go to those anger rooms and break plates I feel like a terrible person
