2023.05.31 03:01 PersonalFigure8331 Hashtag + autocomplete system in Access?

I have a form with a prospective tag textbox, and I'd like to use this for comma separated words/phrases which will serve as searchable tags later. I thought about using a subform that would contain as many tags as needed, but this seems inelegant. During manual entry, one of the things I'm trying to avoid is several variations of the same tag "Cat, Cats, cat" etc and I figured some sort of autocomplete system would be good here.
Is something like this doable in Access? I figure a combo box will be necessary since starting to type the word/phrase needs to kick off a list of similar options in a drop down which could be selected.
I'm thinking about using the "on change" event to kick off an SQL search for matching strings (with the search growing more specific after each entered string), filling the drop down with results, letting them arrow up or down to select, then hitting comma to indicate that the one tag has ended, and a new one is about to begin.
Does this make sense in theory? Will I run into some weird limitation on how combo or text boxes work in this type of use case? I've never heard of autocomplete being used in quite this way, so just checking before I delve in. Other ideas welcome if you have them.
Thanks.

2023.05.31 03:01 missmimid1757 Feeling excluded/othered at work affecting my motivation to go to work & my mood at home (21F – long, but need advice and don’t know what else to do)

I have been working in before/after school care for one year now. I enjoy my job and looking after the children & have gotten good feedback from the school and higher-ups. So performance isn’t the problem.
I am not a super social person, I am introverted and in new situations I can be pretty quiet. I’m aware of that. Always have been. I’m not a hermit or social pariah either though. I don’t think I have that much in common with my co-workers who seem to have much more similar lifestyles to each other & whilst we are all friendly to each other, I never became close to them like they already were or became close to each other. We are all similar ages, oldest person there is still only 31.
I still chatted with to my coworkers though (without imposing myself on them). I did want to be as comfortable around them as they seem to be with each other. Things were still okay though, until the end of last year. Two new women were hired, and I actually like them and think their addition was good (both professionally and socially). The only thing that kinda hurt was their addition basically sealed the deal of being shut out socially. Everybody else became close with them quickly. It didn’t come as natural or fast with me.
And now, whilst nobody is mean to me or anything, I can just tell I am very obviously not on the same wavelength as everybody else is. More than before. It does feel like when I make effort, I don’t get much fruit from it, maybe even shut down a bit? They even speak to me in a less friendly/casual way than they speak to each other. If I could describe it succinctly it feels like that self-fulfilling prophecy of: Quiet person makes effort to speak > Others don’t respond/reciprocate > Quiet person figures that trying doesn’t work and starts to stay quiet > Others don’t talk to quiet person BECAUSE they’re quiet.
I don’t think I’m a super weird person or anything? I probably come off reserved, sure. I still try. I make sure I am hygienic (I don’t stink). I try to be approachable and considerate to others. I show interest in things they bring up (Basically: don’t ramble on about myself, but even if I do talk about myself to make rapport, I honestly don’t think they care). In comparison, I get along great with the kids, but they’re just kids. Doesn’t count for much. I don’t need them to be besties with me, I would just like to be treated the way I see them treat each other. That is all.
I try to think of why, why, why? What am I doing wrong? Even when people come from other locations, they tend to get treated nicer than I do. Recently, I admit I’ve just stopped trying. I know trying isn’t going to achieve anything really. I tried my best for 12 months. Is it a perceived cultural gap? I am the only African in the entire company, but I was born and raised here. I’m even only fluent in English. The only other two people I’ve seen treated like this are a Muslim woman, and an Arab woman who occasionally work at our service. Is that the common thread? I don’t think so? There’s only 2 people I feel don’t treat me differently than they do the others, but they come less often.
I know what you may think: Contact the head of the service. Well, he is the exact same way. He is also close with everybody & they are close to him. I could contact whoever is above him sure. But what are they gonna do? Nobody’s bullying me, so they can’t force them to be chummy with me lmao. And everybody being aware I complained about them won’t make things any better realistically. The most they can really do is move me to another service, but I can’t necessarily commute to those places & have it still be worth it salary-wise (they’re all in different parts of the city). There was one incident where I emailed him (the head of service) requesting if I could avoid being put in the same area as a an older child who threw something at my head, kicked me and shoved me. As well as letting him know that incident did affect me. I have never had to contact him about anything before, nor have I ever even asked anything of him before. My email was completely ignored. But I have seen him many times bend over backwards to accommodate “worse” requests from others & respond to them quickly. Both on email and verbally. Why? Why? He did not do much about the few incidents where certain children were being racist (whether out of ignorance, but some with actual malice) to me at the service either. So of course, some of them continued on. I’ve given up on it and just put up with it when it occasionally happens.
For reference, I have worked other jobs before this. And whilst I wasn’t besties with my coworkers there either, I didn’t feel left treated differently or left out AT ALL. I am not even the type of person desperate for others approval, or desperate to make friends with people at work. I just got on and did my job all these months. But the way I feel treated differently is so apparent to me that it’s started to affect my motivation to go to work at all (despite the ‘caring for kids’ part being fine) when I know I will be experience it daily. I came home from work this morning and just started crying. That’s how I know it’s bad because I rarely cry over people, let alone co-workers.

2023.05.31 03:01 Sudden-Desk7164 Is it normal for 6 year old girls to be very emotional?

My 6 year old has always been what I’ve consider pretty emotional. She’s gotten to the point where she can handle her emotions outside of the home - but she comes out of school so cranky some days! And weekends are very emotionally charged, too. No major life changes in the past year. She’s the oldest of 3 children. She gets the most 1:1 attention in our house because she gets home from school the earliest.
She’s having a hard time playing on the playground with other kids. I’ve spoken to her teacher and just like in Pre-K she doesn’t want to play other kids games - just her own. She’s so upset about it and saying no one likes her. 💔 I see her interact on the playground after school. Everyone knows her and teacher says she’s well liked and a good friend to her classmates. We’ve talked about coping strategies and people she can play with or who to ask for help.
I’m also a little concerned because she’s developed underarm sweating and body odor. She’s very active. We’ve gotten her some (safe) deodorant and I plan to bring this up during her 6 year appointment next week. Is it wrong of me to think she might be experiencing early puberty and that’s causing high enter emotions? Or am I just unrealistic in thinking I had a few more years until I had a moody teenager on my hands?

2023.05.31 03:00 KriticalBubble How can i better my life?

I'm a 14 year old Male. I'm the youngest of all my siblings having 2 brothers, the first 25 and the other 19, and a sister, who is 17. I'm currently in my 11th year of school overall (3rd form of highschool). I'm not a very smart person and I've been struggling in school alot recently.
To start off, I was told that when I was a child, maybe about 3-5 years old, I was the smartest of my siblings. apparently, I would be so eager to study all the time to the point where I would be doing work on the same level as my siblings. I was a straight 'A' child from kindergarten all the way to 4th grade. I had also skipped one of my kindergarten classes because my parents thought I had already passed that level.
Now skip to 4th grade, my grades starting dropping as I had stumbled upon video-games. Back then, I never got to enjoy myself any other way other than hanging out with my family as I had no real friends I could really talk with. although as I was the Youngest one, I'd get special treatment from my parents and thus, my siblings would dislike me for basically more than half of my life. And if you couldn't guess, a toddlechild cant really have fun with adults the same way they can enjoy being with people in their age group, so I really didn't have much to do but study all the time
Video games were like a blessing to me, It was like the best thing to ever happen to me in my life. I had found them so fun that I had stopped studying overall just to be playing games constantly. My parents noticed this and tried to get me away from games completely, but it just wouldn't work as I was so addicted to games (and still am). I took this a certain way and thought that my parents just didn't want me to be happy, I still do have that kind of mindset about them, its just that I'm starting to put together the pieces of what my parents have been doing to me now.
My parents had thought that my "friends" had got me into games, so they immediately told me that I need to drop my friends and that I need to get back into my schoolwork, again this made me think that my parents just didn't want to be happy, so I started getting worried if my parents even had any interest in seeing me happy, or if they just wanted me to be a working machine to get them money. No matter how much work I did it wouldn't even make them proud of me or anything, they just straight up wanted me to stop playing games
Since I thought that, my grades started to seriously drop. I started keeping to myself more, bottling my emotions, hiding things from people and lying about even the smallest things just to get them off my tail. It had been frustrating for me because no matter what I did they wouldn't be satisfied, so I just started enjoying myself more than trying to please them.
Fast forward to very recent times, ive been struggling with my academic life, usually averaging around 50% after every semester and i cant seem to fix it no matter what i do. I'll start trying to make a change my studying and pushing myself to do all my work, But it will only last for 1 week before i lose motivation and get tired of all the work. I've found that i blame this on my parents making me constantly doing work as a child, and so i no longer want to do anymore work as its been making me stressed out everytime i have to. I also have the issue of my parents getting extremely angry at me as I can no longer keep up with my classes.. im far behind in pretty much every subject and when i get homework my immediate thought is that i wont be doing it because i know when i get home im just going to do everything in my power to avoid doing it.
Another thing is that ive been avoiding as much contact as possible with my parents, because whenever i end up in contact with them, they end up absolutely destroying me and my sanity with just words somehow. Its gotten to the point where I NEED to get out of this house as fast as possible and ill do anything if i can achieve that. And example of this is that, since im in 3rd form, i needed to submit my community service forms or else i wont graduate. Ive already chosen not to graduate since school has nothing worth staying for pertaining to my career path (coding), and i wanted to drop out in 3 more years of school. to completely pursue my career.
Ive only found one solution to my problems but im still scared it wont go as i need it to.
I have a few hobbies in my life: Gaming, Video Editing and most importantly, Coding
I started coding a while after my grades started dropping and i really enjoyed it, but since my grades were dropping, my parents didnt want to let me code, atleast in peace. Whenever i made something, maybe a small game just to learn a little more, my dad would always tell me "Oh you could add this!", "Or maybe add one of these!" and it would frustrate me because im trying to go at my own pace and he's always rushing me to make something else. His excuse is that 'I never finish my games', but the thing is, im not trying to make a game, im trying to learn. Its extremely difficult to 'finish' a game, and i can barely even start one.
The only thing i have going good for me right now is coding, im not a very funny person so i cant just upload videos of me playing games, and im not very good at editing videos so i cant do that. The best thing i have is coding, but then again, im still not very good at that
Another bad thing about coding is that i live in the caribbean. Ive went through all the CXC info i could find and i cant find a single thing about coding. The closest thing there is Information Technology and Game Design. My brother went to a college that taught coding, but he didnt get to choose which language they did, their class voted on a language, and i dont want to do that, i strictly want to start with Java, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

and so, this brings me to the question(s) i need to ask:
"How can i start getting into coding whilst keeping motivation for everything?"
"How can i fix my academic life?"
"How can i deal with my parents?"
"If i do end up saving enough to move out, how much longer would i have to stay with my parents until i could finally move out and be on my own?"

Sorry for the long post, and sorry if i made any errors with my grammar or my ordering, but as of writing this i am being stalked by my mom as im to be doing homework rn D:

2023.05.31 03:00 autotldr North Korea says spy satellite launch crashed into sea

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 68%. (I'm a bot)
North Korea has said an accident occurred as it planned to send up its first space satellite, causing it to crash into the sea.
North Korea announced earlier it planned to launch a satellite by 11 June to monitor US military activities.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said North Korea appeared to have fired a ballistic missile and that the government was analysing the details.
North Korea poses a threat to South Korea, and if there is an alert in the future one question being asked is whether it will be taken seriously, or brushed off as another mistake.
On Tuesday, Ri Pyong Chol, vice chairman of North Korea's ruling party's central military commission, announced the launch plan, saying it was in response to "Reckless military acts" by the US and South Korea.
"If North Korea eventually goes ahead with the launch, it will have to bear the price and pain it deserves," it said.

2023.05.31 03:00 Eddtheartist16 Sachiko "Sonic" Hakuta Character Bio (This is an OC inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog)

Name: Sachiko “Sonic” Hakuta
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Birthday: June 23
Quirk: Sonic Speed
Appearance: Sonic is of average height and has an athletic build. She has an olive skin tone, spiky blue hair, piercing green eyes, and a smile that can range from friendly to cocky. For her regular outfit, she wears a beige shirt that has the word “Speed” on it in big bold blue letters, over her beige shirt she wears a cobalt blue bomber jacket that fits perfectly on her and plain white fingerless gloves. For the bottom half of her outfit, she wears soft cobalt blue sweatpants, white socks, and red high-top Nike shoes with white laces and yellow-colored soles.
Personality: Sachiko is a complex and multifaceted individual, with both strengths and weaknesses that make her unique. On one hand, she can come off as a loudmouth, cocky, rebellious, impulsive, petty, and impatient. She's a thrill seeker who enjoys pushing herself to the limits, and she's always up for a challenge.
However, beneath her tough exterior, Sachiko is also a loyal, brave, and heroic individual who will stop at nothing to protect her friends and loved ones. She's quick thinking, introspective, and always willing to learn from her mistakes. She has a kind and compassionate heart, and she genuinely cares about the people around her.
Sachiko is a charismatic individual who can easily win people over with her bold and confident personality. However, her recklessness and impulsive nature can sometimes lead her into dangerous or unpredictable situations. Despite this, she's resourceful and able to come up with innovative solutions to problems, even in high-pressure situations.
Sachiko's carefree and easygoing nature makes her enjoy games, jokes, and other forms of lighthearted fun. At the same time, her perceptiveness and a keen eye for detail allow her to pick up on subtle cues and clues that others might miss. All in all, Sachiko is a dynamic and interesting individual with a lot of potential for growth and development throughout her journey at UA.
Hero outfit: Sachiko's hero outfit is a combination of practicality and flashiness, designed to help her channel her Sonic-inspired powers to the fullest. Her outfit is primarily composed of sleek blue and white armor, with red accents that match her high-top Nike shoes.
To help her move at superspeed, Sachiko's shoes are customized with special materials that can withstand the intense friction and heat generated by her powers. They are fitted with white, silver, and red accents that give them a futuristic look, and they have a specialized sole that helps her maintain her grip on any surface.
Her hi-tech glasses are designed to protect her eyes from debris and wind resistance, which can be hazardous at high speeds. The lenses are made of durable and scratch-resistant materials, and they have a sleek silver frame that complements her armor.
Sachiko's energy supplements are compact and easy to carry, providing her with the boost she needs to run longer and faster. They are contained in a small pouch attached to her waistband, with the pouch designed to blend seamlessly with her armor.
Overall, Sachiko's hero outfit is designed to be both functional and eye-catching, with a nod to her Sonic-inspired powers. It's a perfect representation of her personality and abilities, allowing her to tackle any challenge that comes her way with style and confidence.
Quirk: Sachiko's quirk is called Sonic Speed, and it allows her to move at superhuman velocities that far exceed those of any other person. She can run, jump, and move at a speed that makes her seem like a blur to the naked eye, with agility and reflexes that match her speed.
At her maximum speed, Sachiko can move at an incredible Mach 3, which is roughly 2,300 miles per hour. This allows her to run across vast distances in seconds, dodge attacks with ease, and deliver incredibly powerful blows to her enemies.
However, such incredible speed comes with its drawbacks. Sachiko's body generates an immense amount of heat when she moves at high speeds, which can cause her to overheat and become exhausted if she exerts herself too much.
Additionally, her powers make her less effective in close combat, as her high speed can make it difficult for her to maintain her balance and land blows accurately.
Despite these drawbacks, Sachiko's Sonic Speed has many creative applications. She can use her speed to create sonic booms that disorient and damage her enemies, run up walls and across ceilings, and even create cyclones with her movements. Also, she can run on walls and across water, and can even use her momentum to generate powerful kicks and punches.
Sachiko is aware of the untapped potential of her quirk, and she holds back on purpose during battles to make them more challenging and interesting. She enjoys pushing herself to the limit and exploring new ways to use her powers creatively. She is always looking for new ways to improve her abilities and become an even better hero.
In short, Sachiko's Sonic Speed quirk is a powerful and versatile ability that allows her to move at incredible speeds and perform amazing feats of agility and strength. With practice and training, she has the potential to unlock even more untapped potential, and she is always striving to become a stronger, more effective hero.
Background: Sachiko was born into a family of superheroes. Her parents were both well-known heroes, with her mother possessing the power of flight and her father possessing super strength. Growing up, Sachiko was constantly surrounded by talk of heroism and the responsibilities that came with having a quirk. Despite their high expectations for her, Sachiko struggled to find her place in the world of heroism. Her parents' shadow loomed over her, and she felt that she would never be able to measure up to their legacy.
However, everything changed for Sachiko when she discovered her love for speed. She realized that her quirk, Sonic Speed, was not just a tool for transportation but could also be used to save lives and fight crime. She started practicing with her speed, pushing herself to see just how fast she could go. Her parents were initially hesitant about her new passion, fearing for her safety, but they eventually came around when they saw the determination in her eyes.
Sachiko enrolled at UA High School to hone her skills and become the hero she always knew she could be. She quickly became known as the fastest student in Class 1-A, impressing her peers and teachers alike with her speed and quick thinking. However, Sachiko held back in battles, preferring to make her fights last longer and be more challenging. She knew that if she went all-out, her fights would be over too quickly, and she didn't want to disappoint anyone. She was always looking for ways to improve and to find new ways to use her quirk.
Despite the pressure of her parents' legacy and the expectations placed on her as a hero, Sachiko remained true to herself. She was independent, creative, and always willing to help those in need. She knew that being a hero wasn't just about having a powerful quirk but also about having a strong moral compass and a desire to make the world a better place. Sachiko was determined to use her quirk to do just that.
Strengths:
  1. Superspeed: Sachiko's quirk, Sonic Speed, is incredibly powerful and allows her to move at lightning-fast speeds. This makes her an excellent asset in battles and allows her to quickly come to the aid of those in need.
  2. Quick thinking: Sachiko's superspeed requires her to be quick on her feet both physically and mentally. She is able to think and react quickly, making her a formidable opponent in battles.
  3. Courageous: Sachiko has a strong sense of justice and a desire to protect those around her. She is not afraid to put herself in harm's way if it means saving others.
  4. Loyal: Sachiko values her friendships and relationships deeply. She is fiercely loyal to those she cares about and will go to great lengths to protect them.
  5. Creativity: Sachiko is always looking for new ways to use her quirk and find solutions to problems. She is a creative thinker and is not afraid to try out new approaches.
  6. Independent: Sachiko is confident in her abilities and does not rely on others to get things done. She is self-sufficient and can handle challenges on her own.
  7. Adaptable: Sachiko is able to adjust quickly to changing circumstances and can think on her feet. She is not thrown off by unexpected challenges and can adapt to new situations easily.
Weaknesses:
  1. Overconfidence: Sachiko's cocky and impulsive nature can sometimes make her overestimate her abilities. This can lead her to make careless mistakes or underestimate her opponents.
  2. Impatience: Sachiko's desire to be constantly moving can sometimes lead to impatience and a lack of focus. This can be a weakness in battles where strategy and patience are necessary.
  3. Stamina: Sachiko's quirk, Sonic Speed, requires a lot of physical energy and can quickly tire her out. If she uses her quirk too much, she can become fatigued and less effective in battles.
  4. Vulnerability: Sachiko's superspeed makes her vulnerable to attacks that can catch her off guard. If her opponents can slow her down or find ways to trap her, she can be at a disadvantage.
  5. Dependence on her quirk: Sachiko's reliance on her quirk can sometimes lead her to neglect other aspects of her training. This can make her less effective in battles where she can't rely solely on her speed.
  6. Emotional impulsiveness: Sachiko's emotions can sometimes get the best of her, leading her to act impulsively or recklessly. This can make her unpredictable in battles and lead her to make risky decisions.
  7. Stubbornness: Sachiko's determination and independence can sometimes make her stubborn. She can be resistant to new ideas or approaches, which can limit her potential for growth and development.
Hobbies:
Running: As someone with superhuman speed, Sachiko loves to run and challenge herself to go faster and farther. Whether it's for exercise or just for fun, Sachiko enjoys pushing her limits and seeing just how fast she can go.
Music: Sachiko has a love for music, and can often be found listening to her favorite bands or playing her guitar. Music is a way for her to relax and unwind after a long day, or to get pumped up and ready for battles.
Gaming: Sachiko is a big fan of video games and enjoys exploring virtual worlds, especially those that are fast-paced and action-packed. She also enjoys playing games with her friends and family.
Exploring: Sachiko's adventurous spirit leads her to enjoy exploring new places, both in her local neighborhood and on school trips. She loves to discover new sights, sounds, and experiences.
Martial Arts: Given Sachiko's desire to become a hero, she has also taken up martial arts training to help improve her combat skills. She enjoys learning new techniques and mastering different forms of martial arts.
Fashion: Sachiko has a keen eye for fashion and enjoys creating unique outfits to wear, both in her daily life and as a hero. She likes to experiment with different colors, patterns, and styles and takes pride in her appearance.
Eating: Sachiko's high metabolism from her quirk means she enjoys eating a lot and trying new foods. She loves to sample different cuisines and flavors and is always up for a food challenge.
Skateboarding: Sachiko is also an avid skateboarder, enjoying the feeling of cruising around on her board and performing cool tricks and stunts. Skateboarding gives her an additional mode of transportation outside of running and provides a fun and exciting way to stay active and challenge herself.
Family: Sachiko's family has a long history of heroism and is known throughout the hero community for their bravery and dedication to protecting others. Her parents are both retired heroes, and her older brother, Toshiro, is currently a pro hero. They are a close-knit family who value each other's opinions and support one another.
Sachiko's mother, Akira, was known as "The Sky Guardian" during her hero days. She possessed the ability to fly at incredible speeds and was instrumental in rescuing civilians during natural disasters. Despite her mother's impressive powers, Akira was always kind and nurturing towards her daughter, encouraging her to follow her own path and not feel pressured to live up to her parent's expectations.
Sachiko's father, Hiroshi, was known as "The Colossus" and was one of the strongest heroes of his time. He possessed immense strength and durability, making him a formidable opponent in battles. He was also known for his kindness and humility, often putting others before himself.
Sachiko's older brother, Toshiro, is a pro hero known as "Thunderbolt." He possesses the ability to control electricity and uses it to subdue villains and protect civilians. Despite being an accomplished hero, Toshiro is supportive of his younger sister and encourages her to follow her own path.
Overall, Sachiko's family is a loving and supportive one, with a strong tradition of heroism that has inspired Sachiko to become the hero she is today.
Sachiko’s Class 1A friends: Sachiko's friendship with her Class 1A friends is important to her, as they are the first group of peers she has ever had who understand the challenges of being a hero. She feels comfortable around them and enjoys spending time with them both in and out of class.
With Deku, Sachiko enjoys discussing different hero techniques and strategies. She is always impressed by his analytical mind and his determination to become a great hero, and she often encourages him to keep pushing himself.
Uraraka is one of Sachiko's closest friends in Class 1A. They share a love of food and often go out to try new restaurants and cafes together. Sachiko also admires Uraraka's fighting spirit and her ability to find creative ways to use her quirk.
Todoroki and Sachiko share a mutual respect for each other's power and fighting skills. They often spar together to hone their abilities and push each other to be better heroes.
Jirou and Sachiko bond over their shared love of music, often sharing playlists and discussing different bands and genres. They also have a friendly competition going on to see who can come up with the best hero theme song.
Kaminari is one of Sachiko's closest friends in Class 1A, and they often goof around and joke with each other. Sachiko enjoys Kaminari's lighthearted nature and his ability to make her laugh.
Kirishima and Sachiko share a love of physical training and often work out together to improve their strength and endurance. Sachiko also appreciates Kirishima's unwavering loyalty to his friends and his dedication to becoming a great hero.
Ashido and Sachiko bond over their shared love of fashion and often exchange tips and ideas for creating unique hero costumes. Sachiko also admires Ashido's courage and determination, and they often train together to improve their combat skills.
Sero is someone Sachiko enjoys sparring with, as she appreciates his creativity and resourcefulness in battle. They often trade tips and tricks for using their quirks to gain the upper hand in combat.
Asui and Sachiko share a love of exploring and often go on adventures together in their free time. Sachiko also admires Asui's level-headedness and her ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.

2023.05.31 03:00 cificaPeroMeB SBD Damasteel Apex for 335 - Kizer Hic-Cup with dyed scales

Timestamp
First up is my dama Sharp by Design. Never understood why these are so CRIMINALLY underrated just because the clip pokes you if you hold it in just the right spot but just a tiny bit of repositioning of your hand and you can bare down on it all day no problem. Like trust me this knife is the furthest thing from uncomfortable despite what you might have heard. The clip has some marks on it and the blade has some faint micro scratches (both shown in pics) that are only visible at certain angles, and I can't see any marks anywhere on the handles so overall I'd describe the condition as lightly used. Put a new really nice 17 degree edge on it and haven't used it since so if you ever plan on resharpening then you won't have to spend the hour or so I did reprofiling due to how high of an angle the factory edge was. Zero blade play, pivot lash, or detent lash. Lockup is about 30%. Disassembled once to clean and oil. Centering is perfect. Action is just out of this world especially with the spydy flick, like literally the single number 1 best reverse flicking knife I've ever handled PERIOD. Comes in original box.
Asking $335
Apex pics
Second is my Kizer Hic-Cup. A fun little fidgety knife in 154CM and micarta that I dyed a nice maroon ish color that imo just looks so much better than the original tan/gray. A few micro scratches on the blade that's shown in the video but nothing major, plus I don't think anyone is buying this to safe queen anyway lol. Centering is perfect, lockup too. Has just a tad of lock-stick but doesn't every budget button lock amirite. Factory edge that's still nice and sharp.
These retail for $82 but I just don't find myself reaching for it so you can have it for just $45
Hic-Cup video
Feel free to request more pics/videos of anything. Chat > PM please no Trades
Thanks for looking !

2023.05.31 02:59 AntiDyatlov The Pull and the Slack

I have been developing a somewhat noxious habit recently. You see, years ago, after my last acid trip led me to a psychosis that landed me in the psych ward, along with federal charges pressed against me (psychosis and airplanes really don’t mix!), I haven’t really had opportunity to experience the psychedelic state again, as it would be obviously too dangerous. But I had noticed that my brain is so
different now, that a mild dose of alcohol, enough to give me a buzz, also landed me in a properly psychedelic state.
So once a week I’ve been going to the corner pub, to get that buzz. Sometimes I mix it up by getting a bottle of wine instead.
One evening, I had drank a tall glass of wine, but it really hadn’t given me that buzz. It’s worrisome how much I wanted the buzz. It feels like I understand how someone can become an alcoholic now. Nevertheless, I went ahead and poured myself another tall glass of wine, meaning I would drink about 4/5 of the bottle on that single night.
I looked at that glass on the counter. Then I suddenly got the urge to tip its entire contents into the sink.
I paused. Where did that come from? I ruminated. I told myself how much I would enjoy drinking this, being all cozy and buzzed in my bed. Suddenly, the part of me saying that started sounding like GrĂma Wormtongue whispering in my ear. And I realized that the urge to dump the wine more specifically felt like a pull, a pull upwards inside of me, a pull towards something that shines. And the urge to drink it also felt like a pull, a pull downwards, into darkness.
I let myself be pulled upwards. I grabbed the glass and emptied it entirely. And I was rewarded! Doing this instantly gave me a buzz that lasted a good long while, one not tainted by the dullness of alcohol.
And I realized this was not the first time I had felt the upwards pull. It’s what made me start going to the gym. What made me read Plato, and the Bhagavad Gita, and RenĂ© GuĂ©non.
Nor the first time I had felt the downwards pull. It’s what made me overeat. To meander on the internet. To isolate myself instead of striving to connect with other people.
Calling these things ‘upwards pull’ and ‘downwards pull’ is gonna get old fast. Since the first one I noticed is the upwards pull, let’s just call it ‘the pull’. The other one is also a pull, but it could also be fairly called ‘the slack’, as it opposes the pull, and slack really is its final destination.
But it’s not so simple as the pull being all good. Or the slack being all bad.
Some time after that I was lying in bed, reminiscing about a video game. I do so love video games. Then the pull yanked me again, the urge this time being to go into my living room in that instant and destroy my PS4. I suppose I didn’t feel the slack that time, unless it is that I didn’t notice it because I instinctively went with it. Maybe Wormtongue seduced me.
Another time, I had really got it into my head that I must go and watch John Wick 4. Even went out on a very rainy night to do so. At one point in the movie, a woman gets killed. That didn’t sit right with me, and I started looking at the movie in a much more dim light. What am I even doing? Is watching this shit really different from going to the Colosseum? And I felt the pull, this time telling me that I should stand up and leave, right now. This time, I also felt the slack: just sink into your seat, it was hard enough getting here, you want to get your money’s worth right? I went with the slack, which led to a very interesting experience with the movie. It was like I saw mankind rising against áčšta in some kind of planet-wide rock concert mixed with a Brazilian carnival. Presumably, I would have seen something different had I left, something completely the opposite.
The pull is good in a way: it really was the right call to ditch that wine. But it’s also an all-consuming conflagration. It wants you to sacrifice all that isn’t it. It was the pull that made Abraham attempt to sacrifice Isaac, and it was the slack that made him change his mind. It was the pull that made the Aztecs sacrifice around 250,000 people per year.
The pull is yang and the slack is yin. When Jesus said:
And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
maybe he was saying to kill yin? Well, yin, the dark side, doesn’t actually stand for evil. And there is this book called Christ, the Eternal Tao, which I haven’t read, but its mere existence is quite the statement.
And yet, what were the yin aspects of Jesus? He seems pure yang, the light side, which means he was imbalanced, which is ironically as close to a definition of evil as Taoism gets.
But, potentially, Jesus knew this. He did ask, 'Why do you call me good?’, which leads one to wonder what could be wrong about him that he had to reject the label ‘good’. Maybe he dimly sensed it was wrong to say things like ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life’, which is very un-taoist, what with its ideal of leading by not-leading (I have no idea what Christ, the Eternal Tao is on about).
That one really was a hell of a saying of Jesus. Can you imagine a guy looking you in the eye and saying that one to you? It’s honestly a legitimate miracle that he did that and at least some bought it. I wonder if I would’ve bought it. Would you have done so?
The pull and the slack map more cleanly into the Hindu guáč‡as, which are the 3 essential qualities of everything in existence. These are:
  1. Sattva, the ascending tendency, representing balance and harmony and all things good. It’s associated with the color white.
  2. Rajas, the horizontal tendency, representing passion, which is neither good nor bad. Associated with red.
  3. Tamas, the descending tendency, representing imbalance and chaos and all things bad. It’s color is black.
The pull is sattva and the slack is tamas, and it’s pretty neat that I independently confirmed the existence of these things, because it was only later that I learned sattva is an ascending tendency and tamas a descending one.
I haven’t really described rajas, because most things are rajas, at least in my life. Honestly, I would even file masturbation under that one, as I don’t really feel a descent there, and as it turns out, masturbation is not a big deal in Hinduism, it being seen as a very minor infraction even for people who have taken a vow of chastity.
An interesting thing about the guáč‡as, is that all three need to be present for there to be a manifestation, that is, a universe, at all: there couldn’t be such a thing as a purely sattvic, or tamasic, world. It would be like positing a one-note melody.
So yin-yang is an incomplete symbol. But it does highlight that interesting feature of yang having a dot of yin, and yin of yang: there is no such thing as all-yang or all-yin. If your right hand offends thee, what you really need is a dose of Taoism! (and maybe some Haldol).
We come back to the fact that, ultimately, pouring that wine down the sink was the right call. Would thrashing my PS4 had been the right call also? The third (and I know, final) time I was in the psych ward, I met a very devout, smiling Christian there. He even got other patients to kneel and pray with him. From interacting with him, it wasn’t clear why he ended up warded, but someone later told me that he had started thrashing all the electronics in his house, and when I asked him about it, he said there were demons in there. I shared that intuition for an instant then, and it’s pretty interesting that there’s this environmentalist Christian named Paul Kingsnorth whose work is all about how techno-capitalist civilization is this machine, the Machine, that we have enthroned as God and is in the process of devouring God’s creation, and the only way out is to renounce technology as best as you can and RETVRN TO TRADITION, though he doesn’t go quite that far with that last part (at least right now) being a former leftist and having a well-educated wife that I imagine would never go along with it.
Paul Kingsnorth is doing a more high-brow version of the behavior that got that Christian warded, and looking at it from another angle, the vibe worshipers over on That Part Of Twitter (better known as tpot) have said that AI art gives them bad vibes, and basically, are you down with this video?
Grimes - We Appreciate Power
Or do you want Kalki avatar to come, burn everything down, and restore Satya Yuga? Surely one must pick, it’s all so boring if we get stuck in an Eternal 90s.
Sattva and tamas, the pull and the slack. It pays to be aware of these things, because ultimately, even though the unbridled pull just leads to insanity, the fruit of the slack, tamas, can be seen in the homeless drug addicts which I see everyday. I don’t believe in a yin-yang balance between these things: it is better to have an overall sattvic tendency, to the degree one can manage it. I don’t believe it’s a matter of submitting to some rules. Someone once told me that true brahmins don’t indulge not because they are suppressing their desires, but because they are truly revolted by the things we would call indulging. I can’t say I yearn for such a state, but should I land in it, I don’t think I would resist it.

‘23 Fat Boy 114
My ‘23 Fat Boy 114. Power for days. Exciting to ride. Also pictured is my ‘22 Forty Eight. Now can anyone tell me where the best points are to strap the Fat Boy into the trailer? Not exactly sure where to affix the straps
Doesn’t help that the tire is a bit fat even for this larger wheel chock. The 48 straps in a lot easier, more like my dirt bikes. The Fat Boy has less hook-on real estate.

2023.05.31 02:59 JayDunzo How did you quit your Eikaiwa?

Has anyone ever quit a bad Eikaiwa without securing a new position first? I need to get out of my current job in Saitama, and into some affordable living while I search for a new one. I wouldn't call the company a "total" nightmare, but my situation is definitely one. My recruiter has helped me look for leads in my area for over a month, but we've yet to find any.
I work in a very poorly run Eikaiwa that requires 45 hours on the clock weekly, TWTFS. The contract specified 40 hours per week, but I didn't realize they meant "work hours" not counting lunch breaks. You have to be in the building for over 45 hours a week. I've stuck with it for 5 months, but it's just too much work. I don't have time for laundry, grocery or clothes shopping, learning Japanese, setting up mobile plans or any personal affairs. I have a two day weekend that FLIES by, and if you have to shop for groceries or clothes or something, there goes your whole day. I had my training, but never any help on the job. I'm alone in a building run by a staff that hardly speaks any English, and they don't want to help if I have a problem. I never ever get to interact with other western teachers. I'm losing money with my accounts that I don't have time to manage and my mental health is getting extremely fragile. I'm brand new with zero previous experience with teaching or children, and they expect me to be the best right away. Politely asking questions or expressing concerns is always a mistake. They'll just reprimand you or say "Oh, that's bad. Please teach a good lesson!" If the job was just 5 hours less, it would be fine, but it's an unfixable situation
Anyway, the contract says you must give at least a 2 month notice, or they can sue you. It's so they can find someone to replace you, but it also traps people at their company. Anyway, has anyone ever been in a similar situation? Inexpensive share houses in the Tokyo area?

2023.05.31 02:59 ChiefsHat PC Cast is a genuinely terrible writer.

I'm not singling out one of her books so much as her entire body of work because there's no way in hell she managed to produce a single good book in her life. Or one that didn't make me want to vomit.
Now, the writer GK Chesterton once said the following in his book, Heretics;
A good novel tells us the truth about its hero; but a bad novel tells us the truth about its author.
This is extremely true of PC Cast, who's clearly into new age Wiccanism, 'mother goddess' BS, and a ton of other stuff that includes lovely things like rape apologia.
Let me repeat that; rape. Apologia.
In her House of Night book series, which is gonna be a big focus of this review, the main charactehow-adults-write-teens Zoey Redbird - one of the most unpleasant 'fonts of empathy and compassion' ever created - goes through numerous boyfriends, often at the same time. One of them is her older teacher, Loren Blake, who she has steamy intimate moments with and eventually loses her virginity with. The scenes between her and Loren are... like... well... you know how people describe grooming? It's like that, it's grooming, actual, straight-up grooming. Zoey's into Loren because he makes her, a sixteen-year-old, feel like a woman. And he's hot.
There's also when she stumbles upon Aphrodite - who cannot be described for a page without being called a slut or a hag from hell or just an awful person because of reasons - tries to force a blowjob on her ex-boyfriend... and it's gross, not because it's attempted rape, but because...
I'll quote Zoey herself;
Yes, I was aware of the whole oral sex thing. I doubt if there's a teenager alive in America today who isn't aware that most of the adult public think we're giving guys blow jobs like they used to give guys gum (or maybe more appropriately suckers). Okay, that's just bullshit, and it's always made me mad. Of course there are girls who think it's "cool" to give guys head. Uh, they're wrong. Those of us with functioning brains know that it is not cool to be used like that.
Never mind that the guy is clearly saying no to Aphrodite's advances, throughout the entire ordeal, no, that never factors into why Aphrodite's a bad person. No, it's because she's a slut. And yes, she is the typical alpha bitch character we see in all teen dramas, to the point of having her own pair of followers. And guess what?
She ends up redeemed but still a bitch. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. The main villain is Kalona - I'll get into some other unfortunate aspects of his character later on - who was the consort of the goddess Nyx (who's also Dawn, Spider-Woman, Kuan Yin, every powerful mother goddess figure, fantastic) but got jealous over her playmate Erebus so attacked them and was cast out ala Satan.
And everyone treats him tragically an sympathetically for this, going on about how he just wants the world he used to have back - even though he rapes an entire race, the Raven Mockers, into existence.
And I do mean rapes an entire race into existence. He used mind control powers to seduce countless women and rape them until they had his bastard spawn known as Raven Mockers. He was stopped when some Cherokee wise-women made him a special doll to love called Aya and trapped him. And guess what? Zoey is Aya's reincarnation. The only one in the series. So yes, Kalona is her love interest to the point of groping her tits at one point - again, teenage girl here - going "I know what you like, Aya" and then Zoey jumps off a cliff to escape him, but don't worry, this is all his seductive powers. The narrative never treats him as anything other than a tragic, flawed villain rather than a creepy-ass monster.
Zoey's final love interest is a guy called Stark, who also used mind control crap to rape women, but once Zoey sees he's good-looking, decides he can be redeemed... and then derides one of his victims, Becca, as a slut. For wanting to still hook up with him despite being attracted to him only because of his mind control powers. His past as a rapist is never, ever brought up again beyond calling it a "not-so-nice past."
And oh yeah, Raven Mockers, or KĂą'lanĂ» Ahkyeli'skĂŻ, are actual creatures in Cherokee mythology. Remember how I said Cherokee wise-women? Well... it's also set in Oklahoma, where Kalona was sealed. Note his name as well, and the first one for the Cherokee words for Raven Mockers. I'd also like to bring up now that Zoey Redbird is part Cherokee but this is just used to make her extra special and cool. Here's what her grandmother had to say when she becomes a vampire.
"That's not what I mean, baby. I'm not surprised you were Tracked and Marked. The Redbird blood has always held strong magic; it was only a matter of time before one of us was Chosen. What I mean is that it makes no sense that you were just Marked. The crescent isn't an outline. It's completely filled in.”
"That's impossible!”
"Look for yourself, U-we-tsi a-ge-hu-tsa." She used the Cherokee word for daughter, suddenly reminding me very much of a mysterious, ancient goddess.
I am so sorry to all Native Americans who had to read that. Its representation of Cherokee beliefs and mythology is so bastardized Disney's take on Natives in the original Peter Pan comes across as downright golden. It's the exact kind of 'oh, so mysterious and mystical' crap Natives have been trying to escape for years. Also, they're all neo-pagans because of course they are.
You're probably wondering how this book series tackles other issues, like homosexuality! I'll let the resident token character Damien introduce himself.
“Actually, since I'm gay I think I should count for two guys instead of just one. I mean, in me you get the male point of view and you don't have to worry about me wanting to touch your boobies.”
He reminds you of his sexuality every. Fucking. Sentence. I'm not even kidding, it's hammered into your head like Patrick Bateman murdering Paul Allen. That's not an exaggeration, I swear, it's that forceful.
How does it tackle race? You know when POC characters are described as being food-colored for their skin? It's that. All the time.
I will note that Kristen Cast, P.C. Cast's daughter, is credited as a co-author... but I can tell this was mainly the mother's handiwork. I'd go on about the House of Night series, but I have better things to do than waste my life on something which outlived the far superior Twilight. (Yes, I can say that with a straight face.)
This bad writing ain't just limited to House of Night. From her Goddess Summoning series where modern-day women travel back in time to seduce greek gods and heroes!
Hades was the personification of dark and dangerous--a living, breathing Batman.
That's from Goddess of Spring.
Isabel's heart dropped right to her vagina and started throbbing there.
That's from Goddess of Legend, when our heroine meets King Arthur.
The British legendary hero King Arthur. In a series about Greek myths.
Then in Warrior Rising, where a woman gets sent to seduce Achilles, she uses hypnosis on him, jacks him off, yes it's called rape at one point, and the person who does it, her black best friend in a white slave woman's body (so much wrong with that) just goes "okay, whatever floats your diabolical boat!" and is fine with her best friend being a rapist.
This is what P.C. Cast decided made for good literature.
And somehow... she's a New York Times Bestseller. I am never trusting that description ever again.
