2023.05.31 07:36 twofacedflyer Ranking the TD 2023 Characters Day 6: 3rd member of the Geniuses
11th: Millie
A good Total Drama character to me at least has to balance two main attributes to be good, these are 1. To have an interesting story and 2. Be entertaining. Now some characters can get away with just filling that second part but all the truly great Total Drama characters from the series tick both of those boxes, they either have a well done character arc or relationship or even a fun gimmick that doesn’t get stale. But more importantly they remain entertaining whether it be by making the audience laugh, sympathize or enjoy hating them they are above all entertaining. Now I've seen many characters that fail both these tenets and some that manage to do 2 but not 1 however I think Millie is the first character in the series who kind of accomplishes point 1 yet kind of fails point 2.
Millie is the season's requisite smart character and holds the fun distinction of being the very first member of the new cast we get introduced to in the first episode. She is shown to be the bog standard nerd character being very smart and not great socially but she does have a bit of a twist to it that being her reason for joining the TD. See unlike everyone else who’s there to try and win some money or as the theme song goes, wants to be famous Millie is on Total Drama as part of her own scientific study, that being a look into how and why modern teenagers are so stupid. Yes she decides to take part in a highly dangerous and highly athletic reality show competition just to study the competitors' psychologies and find out what makes them tick, something she could’ve done just by watching the show from home but I guess she really wanted to be thorough. She’s placed on the Ferocious Trout and doesn’t really make all that much of an impact over the first few episodes, mostly just sticking to the background and commenting on people's actions and how it will do well for her eventual book. She does start having a bit of a plot when she begins to bond with fellow team member Priya, with the two being nice and both having struggled with making friends. They soon form a tight knit alliance and while Pryia just sees Millie as a friend to look out for, Millie in turn is fascinated by Pryia’s background and how her parents upbringing shaped her. She wants to put all of the personal things Pryia tells her into her book but naturally doesn’t tell her knowing she’d be offending and betrayed. Millie continues on in the game almost entirely due to a combination of being under most characters' notice and Pryia carrying her through each of the challenges as much as she can with Millie basically holding her back the whole time. But the duo does well making it past the merge and having a clear shot at the finals, and all looks good until Bowie pulls his trump card revealing Millie’s journal to Pryia and breaking their fellowship. This all comes to a head in the finale where Millie desperately tries to win back Pryia’s friendship by helping her through the challenge for a change. It works but costs her a place in the finale leaving her at 3rd place overall.
Now as that very long recap paragraph illustrates Millie does have quite a bit of story during the season, her friendship with Pryia is outside of Wayne and Raj the strongest friendship going during the season and serves as a classic finalist and friend combo ala Gwen/Leshawna, Beth/Lindsay, and Cameron/Zoey/Mike. She also has her own character arc of growing past her sense of superiority over everyone else and her lack of empathy towards most of the other competitors and their issues, and it all happens because she learns that friendship is worth more than any academic reward. Now that all sounds pretty good doesn’t it, a perfectly fine character arc on paper and has some nice moments peppered throughout. The problem is that in spite of all this Millie is such a bland ass white bread borderline unlikable character for most of the season. Yeah I never really clicked with Millie as a character despite the show's best efforts to get me too, I think it just comes down to the fact that she just isn’t all that entertaining and simultaneously isn’t all that likable. She starts the show immediately looking down on everyone else and planning to basically smear them all in her book as a bunch of fame hungry morons all in the pursuit of making herself look smart. That’s already a tough sell in the sympathy department given the generall smugness of that whole outlook and how she doesn’t really care about any of the characters actual issues or the fact that her book would probably cause a lot of problems for them if it was published. On top of this she’s kind of a load as a competitor not really doing great in any of the challenges with Pryia having to carry her all the way to the final 3. The worst part is despite her being intelligent she doesn’t even use that to help in any of the challenges, she doesn’t come up with any good plans or clever solutions just complains and holds others(Mainly Priya) back, say what you want about WT Cody being carried but at least he reminded people that he was smart and could pull through on challenges when he needed to. Millie isn’t all bad though, I do dislike her attitude and outlook but it doesn’t make her a villain or anything just someone I never found myself rooting for and while the character development is good it comes a little too late for my liking.
But ultimately what sinks Millie for me and what got her this relatively low spot is that I just don’t find her all that entertaining. She isn’t funny for starters(Outside of her deciding to opt out of the eating challenge which was pretty good), and hey that isn’t a deal breaker not everyone needs to be a comic relief but she doesn’t supplement that with anything. No interesting character hooks or quirks, no fun gags, no real crazy skills or moments for most of the seasons she’s kind of just there existing to support Priya and give the occasional observation. Seriously all she does is see something then it cuts to the confessional and she goes “well that’s going in my book”, seriously that right there is 60% of her screen time and it's just kind of boring. She is nice in general I guess but that’s it she just doesn’t have the kind of presence or hook to warrant reaching 3rd place. Think of all the other 3rd place characters in the series(Heather, Courtney, Cody, Zoey, Gwen and Sugar) now compare them to Millie and you just see how much she falls short in terms of character or story. She outlasts so many other vastly more interesting characters and to me that was too much for someone who’s basically a side character in Pryia’s story with not much going on alone.
Speaking of Pryia, Millie’s season-long friendship with her is the main thing that kept her from sinking down the list because it is pretty good. They both come from similar friendless backgrounds and quickly bond over it and at least in theory being a pretty perfect brains and brawn duo(Although ultimately Pryia is the one who provides both). It's fun seeing Pryia trying to train Millie to do better and just be overjoyed about finally having a friend, while for Millie this friendship is what drives her to give up the whole book thing and actually try and be a good friend. It is a little sullied by Mille kind of taking advantage of Pryia’s kindness and desire for friendship not even arguing when Pryia gifted her a challenge win and spending a good chunk of her time banking on Pryia carrying her further in the game just so she can go smear her family in a book. But it does end on a nice note and contributes to Millie’s half decent character development so it gets a thumbs up in my book, although that is mostly due to Pryia but I’m getting ahead of myself here.
Millie to me is a character who just kind of irked me but ultimately I can’t bring myself to really hate. She has a decent story arc and a somewhat interesting character set up with an okay character arc conclusion. But it comes at the cost of her being a pretty bland character with not much that really sticks out who also has quite a few unlikable traits to boot. Overall I do wonder what they’ll do with her in season 2 since she placed so high but didn’t win which usually bodes well for characters, I do hope they do something a tad more interesting with her character because there is something there but only time will tell.

2023.05.31 06:39 acebae AU: What if there was a season 6?
ASP has said they had a completely different plan for season 5 before Amazon said it'd be their last. What if in an alternante universe they were told they'd have 2 more seasons, how do you think they would have panned out?
I'm assuming most if not all of the plot in season 5 would have still made the show but spread between 2 seasons so here are my thoughts below:
Season 5 fantasy predictions:
Ep1 to Ep4 - No flashbacks, atleast not until the final episode - Still would have opened up with after blizzard - Susie saying "I have one year" instead of 6 months - The "Gordan Ford season" - slower ramp up to Midge getting the job. Susie and Mike scenes the same. George getting fired plays out in real time vs flashbacks. - More scenes of Midge playing club gigs. Lenny and Midge running into eachother. Lenny is with another girl - Midge is "with" Gordan (not together but he just happens to be there too) awkwardness - Eventually give in to some semblance of a romance mid-season (go on a "normal" date but end up doing an impromptu stand up performance when patrons recognize Lenny) but Midge becomes more privy to his struggles - Mei and Joel breakup would have still happened but the deteoriation of the relationship would happen over the first half of the series - Funny scenes with Joel's parents (who are seperated) meeting Mei's parents / cultural differences - Increased presence of the mob and Susie's growing concerns - Matchmaker storyline - Rose gets a famous client (old money hieress) and turf wars get more intense - Abe's playwriter friend returns and him/Abe become writing partners - Zelda is increasingly distracted at work. Abe and Rose become concerned she's "cheating" on them with another family. Keeps offering her more money and fancy gifts. Zelda is confused but accepts
Ep5 to Ep8 - After Mei leaves Joel gets hyperfixated on opening another club and Midge's career to distract himself - Joel notices mobs involvement and becomes concern. Conflict with Susie builds and explodes in Ep7 - Gordon Ford storyline the same - Midge's increasing impatience - Abe and Rose run into Lenny when they're downtown having dinner in village with Abe's playwrite friend. Abe invites him to Seder. Awkward but hilarious exchange where Lenny keeps trying to decline but Abe and Rose keep insisting until finally Rose initimidates Lenny into saying yes. Midge is mortified. - Tension between Midge and Lenny builds until Ep.7. Lenny is a no show to seder. Astrid: "Who's Lenny? Was he at the service earlier? Is he a visiting rabbi?" - Midge is called to lobby. Lenny is there - with an empty bottle of wine and flowers. Big fight. "Comics don't need healthy relationships! They need fodder for their next set!" - Midge rejected by Jack Parr next day. Midge hits an emotional wall. - Abe's and playwrite's play can't find financing. Struggles with feelings of inadequancy since Rose's businesss is doing so well - Rose frustrated with Abe's lack of support during Matchmaker turf wars because of his insecurity not being the breadwinner - Hedy and Susie storyline the same. Hedy makes more appearances bc she's amazing. Midge still asks Susie to ask Hedy. - Finale opens up with 60 Minutes Flash Forward. First flashfoward - introducing the concept that will be used in the final season. - Lenny and Midge goodbye airport scene happens in the finale. Haven't spoken since Passover - Midge didn't know he was leaving - Abe apologies to Rose and accepts that he was being a butt. - Zelda's fiancee revealed to the relief of Abe and Rose - The family supports Midge's first talk show appearance at Gorden Ford. Lenny has an umbrella delivered to Midge's dressing room "It's sunny in California. Thought you might need this. Thanks for letting me borrow it"
Season 6: Haven't thought of it as much but I see it revolving around the sexism Midge faces despite her growing success. Ending with her first night at the Copa as the series finale
Thoughts?

In ancient Kahndaq, Teth Adam bestowed the almighty powers of the gods. After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out . Nearly 5,000 years have passed, and Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out has gone from man to myth to legend. Now free, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern-day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone.
Production companies : Warner Bros. Pictures.
At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so on.As
Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).
“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out , which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out .)
“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out , we acknowledge everyone: Batman , Superman , Wonder Woman, Flash, we acknowledge everybody. There's also some Easter eggs in there, too.So that's what I meant by the resetting. Maybe resetting' wasn't a good term.only
one can claim to be the most powerful superhero .And Johnson, when gently pressed, says it's his indestructible, 5,000-year-old Kahndaqi warrior also known as Teth-Adam, that is the most powerful superhero in any universe, DC, Marvel or otherwise
"By the way, it's not hyperbole because we made the movie."And we made him this powerful.
There's nothing so wrong with “Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out ” that it should be avoided, but nothing—besides the appealing presence of Dwayne Johnson—that makes it worth rushing out to see. spectacles that have more or less taken over studio filmmaking, but it accumulates the genre's—and the business's—bad habits into a single two- hour-plus package, and only hints at the format's occasional pleasures. “Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out ” feels like a place-filler for a movie that's remaining to be made, but, in its bare and shrugged-off sufficiency, it does one positive thing that, if nothing else, at least accounts for its success: for all the churning action and elaborately jerry-rigged plot, there's little to distract from the movie's pedestal-like display of Johnson, its real-life superhero.
It's no less numbing to find material meant for children retconned for adults—and, in the process, for most of the naïve delight to be leached out, and for any serious concerns to be shoehorned in and then waved away with dazzle and noise. Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out ” offers a moral realm that draws no lines, a personal one of simplistic stakes, a political one that suggests any interpretation, an audiovisual one that rehashes long-familiar tropes and repackages overused devices for a commercial experiment that might as well wear its import as its title. When I was in Paris in 1983, Jerry Lewis—yes, they really did love him there—had a new movie in theaters. You're Crazy, Jerry."Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out " could be retitled 'You're a Superhero, Dwayne'—it's the marketing team's PowerPoint presentation extended to feature length.
In addition to being Johnson's DC Universe debut, “Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out ” is also notable for marking the return of Henry Cavill's Superman. The cameo is likely to set up future showdowns between the two characters, but Hodge was completely unaware of it until he saw the film.
“They kept that all the way under wraps, and I didn't know until maybe a day or two before the premiere,” he recently said Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out FULLMOVIE ONLINE
Is Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out Available On Hulu?Viewers are saying that they want to view the new TV show Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.
Is The Roundup: No Way Out Fullmovie Online For Free on Disney Plus?
Unfortunately, Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest.
While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release.
Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out has finally ended the box office blues. It will be a close call, but based on the estimates, the year's biggest opener remains Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with its $187 million start. Nonetheless, WThe Roundup: No Way Outnda Forever's $180 million opening is a huge one, being the biggest ever for the month of November (beating the $158 million of The The Roundup: No Way Out Games: Catching Fire), the second biggest of the year, and the 13th biggest of all time (though it could go up or down a few slots once the actuals come out). It led an overall weekend box office of $208 million, which is the fourth biggest of the year and the biggest by a long shot of the past four months, with no other weekend since July 8 -10 even going above $133 million.
This isn't the $202 million opening that we saw from Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out in February 2018, nor should we expect the amazing legs that were able to get that film to an astonishing $700 million. With that said, expect it to perform strong throughout the holiday season, likely repeating the five-weekend number-one streak that the first film had, and it shouldn't have any trouble becoming the second highest grossing film of the year so far, beating the $411 million cume of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The audience response is strong, with the A CinemaScore falling below the first film's A+ but bouncing back from the B+'s earned by Doctor Strange 2 and Magic Mike's Last Dance, which ranked among the worst for the MCU. improvement over the recent franchise installations, with the aforementioned films coming in at 74% and 64% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, both at the lower end for Marvel films, while WThe Roundup: No Way Outnda Forever's 84% is closer to franchise norms, though not meeting the high bar set by the first Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out 's 96%.
The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cume comes to $330 million. Can it become the year's third film to make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which made up around $124 million of the first film's $682 million international box office, being out of play? It may be tough, but it's not impossible. Legging out past $500 million is plausible on the domestic front (that would be a multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 million abroad would be a drop of around $58 million from the original after excluding the two MIA markets. It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the film, but the positive reception suggests that WThe Roundup: No Way Outnda Forever will outperform the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively).
As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 million as Hollywood shied away from releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months.
Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out , which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-summer, pre-WThe Roundup: No Way Outnda Forever season, came in second with just $8.6 million. Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. Worldwide it is at $352 million, which isn't a great cume as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any film since Magic Mike's Last Dance, though WThe Roundup: No Way Outnda Forever will overtake it any day now.
Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out came in third place in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $6.1 million, emerging as one of the season's most durable grossers and one of the year's few bright spots when it comes to films for adults. The domestic cume is $56.5 million Fourth place went to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which had a negligible drop of 5% for a $3.2 million sixth weekend and $40.8 million cume., in fact )
Which isn't surprising considering it's the only family film on the market, and it's close to grossing four times its $11.4 million opening. Still, the $72.6 million worldwide cume is soft given the $50 million budget , though a number of international markets have yet to open.
Finishing up the top five is Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out , which had its biggest weekend drop yet, falling 42% for a $2.3 million seventh weekend. Of course, that's no reason to frown for the horror film, which has a domestic cume of $103 million and global cume of $ 210 million from a budget of just $20 million.
The one new specialty title of note comes from a filmmaker we don't typically associate with the specialty box office: Steven Spielberg. The Beard's semi-autobiographical family drama Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out opened in four theaters in New York and Los Angeles to $160k, a $40k average. The film expands to 600 theaters the day before Thanksgiving, and it has the potential to break out in a way that none of the other of the season's awards contenders have. We're also seeing very solid numbers from Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out , which grossed $1.7 million this weekend for a seventh place finish, bringing its cume to $5.8 million.

2023.05.31 00:49 Few_Contribution_483 MLB Eras for 24-An Idea
Franchise in MLBTS kinda sucks. The last good year was 19, maybe 20, because of the UI. (Hopefully they fix this god-awful UI in 24) So with that, I decided to steal something from 2K, which arguably has the best franchise in sports video games: Eras. So, without further ado, here they are.
Quick note here - Modern-day aspects of the game, like free agency, trades, and the draft are in full effect here. The playoffs will change depending on the year and so will the divisions. And obviously, teams and uniforms will change as well.
1930's - The Ruth Era
Stars - Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx
We'll be starting this in 1933 because that was when the first All-Star game happened.
1940's and 50's - The Williams-DiMaggio Era
Stars - Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Hank Greenberg
Players loading into this one will be starting in 1941 which was when Williams hit .406 and DiMaggio hit safely in 56 straight games.
1960's - The Mantle Era
Stars - Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron
Upon starting you'll be jumped into 1961 the year of the thrilling Mantle-Maris homerun chase.
1969 - The Expansion Era
Stars - Steve Carlton, Nolan Ryan, Johnny Bench
Like rebuilding teams? Well this era is for you! Control tons of expansion teams from Montreal to Milwaukee!
1980's - The Schmidt Era
Stars - Mike Schmidt, Pete Rose, George Brett
Yeah... didn't really know what to call this era. Also the least fleshed out on where to start. So anyway...
1990's - The Griffey Era
Stars - Ken Griffey Jr., Randy Johnson, Cal Ripken Jr.
Get dropped into 1991 when Griffey really started to take off. From here the eras will start to have set in stone, starting and ending years.
1998-2005 - The Steroid Era
"Stars" - Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa
Just a bunch of cheaters. Nothing to see here.
2005-2015 - The Pujols Era
Stars - Albert Pujols, Miguel Cabrera, Ichiro Suzuki
Want a star-studded draft class? Well look no further than 2009. For entertainment purposes, you'll be starting in 2008 to give some other teams the chance to draft future superstars.
2015-2023 - The Statcast Era
Stars - Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts
And now we come to the present-day MLBTS. Nothing new, nothing flashy.

2023.05.30 23:34 mirta000 Weekly discussion - what occult/religious related text did you read most recently?
It is also fine if you're reading fantasy that is somehow to do with spirits and religion. June is my reading month, so I wanted to see what books people were devouring most recently.
I'm personally reading the "Illustrated Anthology of Sorcery, Magic and Alchemy" by Emile Grillot De Givry. First edition came out in 1929, the one that's on my desk has been published in 1973. The author died 1 year after the book released, it was rejected by the Christians for condemning Witch trials, it was rejected by occult readers for not making any grand claims, the illustrations being black on white can sometimes be hard to make out, but I honestly enjoy author's analysis of religious paintings and the book boasting 366 illustrations, while being nearly 400 pages long and much larger than your average book in size, it is more of an easy read than what I was reading before.
The author is Christian and sometimes he writes as if the things that are illustrated happened, so not like we're connected by religion, or time, but honestly I'm just here for the journey. Pretty pictures, descriptions of medieval outlook towards demons, hell and witches, I'm all here for it and it is a fun journey to be on.

2023.05.30 22:09 Uplakankus I hate to say it, but we just can't trust these coloured boys to win us a championship no more....
They just can't handle the pressure in high tier situations it's just not in their DNA it's just not in their blood. Brown needs to go, Williams needs to go, Horford needs to go, Smart needs to go, that lightskin boy Tatoom can stay you always want to keep one or two of em anyways to pull out a couple neat tricks now and again.
Spending more time thugging and living a gangster life than focusing on getting us Wins. We must give more blue collar, hard workers like Peyton Pritched, Mike Muscala and Luke Kornet some PT! Maybe even sign that Austin Reaves kid and trade for that young buck Christian Braun down there in Denver, he knows how to get a team to the finals that's for damn sure.
We need to bring back to glory days of the Celtics dynasty with the likes of Bob Cousey and Larry Bird leading the charge. Embarrassing franchise I might just have spend my hard earned welfare allowance elsewhere next season if we don't see a change...

2023.05.30 20:30 Volo_Kin Gran Turismo 2 Bleem - scratches or copy protection?
| Hi, just got my first Bleem Gran Turismo 2 and I've never seen those rings before on the bottom of the disk on any other platform. Are these scratches or some sophisticated copy protection? P.s. these are not actually blue but multicolored depending on the angle. submitted by Volo_Kin to dreamcast [link] [comments] |
