Advice on what to add (80L/21G) planted community tank
2023.05.31 11:48 medinas Advice on what to add (80L/21G) planted community tank
Hi guys,
I have a 80L (21 gallon) planted aquarium. It is currently populated with Cherry shrimp, Otocinclus, Pygmy Cory, Chilli Rasbora and Lampeye Killies.
I'd like to add center piece fish, but I'm not sure what to add that would complement what I already have on the tank and that would not disturb my existing residents.
Any suggestions? Thank you!

Heya! I’ve got an old 3-5 gallon tank (unsure what it’s actual size is) and i’m looking for a few interesting stocking and plant ideas, preferably anything pink and purple as it’s themed after a certain warhammer character! i’d prefer not to put a betta in there though, it’s simply too small for one in my opinion :).

There are several individuals who make the headlines by tapping into this network in order to siphon oil. Drill-bit is a drilling prodigy who is offered by Gun-woo, the head of an oil refining company, a large sum of money for completing the impossible heist to drill into the pipeline between Honam and Seoul-Busan highway within a month. To get the job done in time, he puts together a team of misfits: civil engineer ‘Mr. Na’, excavation expert ‘Big Shovel’, and welding expert ‘Welder. And just as the cops get a wind of this oil heist, Drill-bit’s mine collapses, his team gets cornered from all sides. As the operation gets delayed from setbacks, Gun-woo threatens their lives. 2023.05.31 10:25 PizzaMaxEnjoyer I would love to see trading completely turn on its head in Civ7
I always found it weird how "Trade Routes" and "Trading" are two completely seperate concepts in Civ6 with zero overlap. Trade routes are generally pretty boring in my opinion and just yield porn. Trading on the other hand is also rather boring because it mostly boils down to spam clicking your strategics to siphon gold out of every AI.
So i would love to see both combined in Civ7. Thinking about it it both makes total sense from a game world perspective, but would also be really good for balancing.
Want to sell 20 Iron for some Gold? You have to send a trader to the other player carrying the iron, and wait for it to come back with the gold. How cool would that be?
- No more lame insta trading across the world (How did that even work in the first place? I didnt research shipbuilding yet, my traders cant even go on water, but i can magically teleport Horses across the ocean?)
- Trade routes are way more interesting and dynamic, you could still have some "yields" from the Civ6 trade routes (after all a "Trader" would still take some other stuff with it to sell around the world)
- Robbing trade routes doesnt just give some lame gold, if you steal a luxury you get the luxury!
- Trading Strategics, Luxuries, Gold etc. is a very strong mechanic - now you have to actually invest into trade routes. Currently, the "default" strategy, no matter what you play, is to just throw everything you own at the AI to get the stupidly high gold amount it is offering you for it to snowball the early game
- Trading Posts and "Established" connections between cities could also be improved. Maybe once a trading post is established, two cities will automatically start to send "small" traders down the road between them, giving some passive yields that increase over time? Connecting cities would actually be a strategy you would have to think about, expanding your trade network to be bigger and bigger, instead of just picking the biggest gold route via Ocean travel and going with that for the rest of the game
- Maybe trading could open up some entirely new balancing options, this would be a pretty big change but think about how it works in games like Anno - you have some requirements for resources, but they dont spawn everywhere, so you have to try to distribute your stuff to satisfy everyones requirement?
- This would already work pretty nicely with Strategics. Want to build some tanks on the frontline? The oil cant magically teleport there, so youd have to invest into some logicists to supply your advancing armies. Of course needs to be balanced to not be a big detriment
Of course this wouldnt really work with Diplo Favor but honestly the World Congress should probably not exist anyways in its current form, although i really like the idea.
TL;DR current trading/trade routes in Civ are too yield-porny and soulless in my opinion and feel too much of a "click for free money and forget about them" mechanic.

2023.05.31 09:49 muramasa-san How’s your oil consumption?
I’m looking to buy a Formentor VZ soon and discovered this in the owners manual:
Depending on how you drive and the conditions in which the car is used, oil consumption can be up to 0.5 L/1000 km. Oil consumption is likely to be higher for the first 5000 km. For this reason the engine oil level must be checked at regular intervals, preferably when filling the tank and before a journey.
0.5 L/1000 km seems 10x higher than what I’d expect of a modern vehicle.
What has been your experience to date?

2023.05.31 08:36 CloudStrife339 You're going to try to regulate ESAs? Bet
Housing provider won't let me get a puppy so I can have an ESA? Try me
So a bit of background, my wife and I used to live in on-campus married student housing while we were going through college, it was literally the cheapest housing in the area and was also conveniently close to basically everything we needed. About 6 months before the pandemic, we found out that a traumatic brain injury I had suffered impaired my brain's ability to process dopamine, and I was diagnosed with depression. After a while of going to therapists and doctors to get prescribed with meds that did help somewhat, it was eventually decided that I would benefit from having an Emotional Support Animal (ESA), specifically an active breed dog, preferably one that we could get as a puppy. My wife already had her own ESA to help with her anxiety, which ended up being the exact opposite for what I needed.
Quick side note: the official pet rules for the housing we lived in limited any pets to those that had gills, fins, were fully aquatic, and contained to a maximum of 20 gallon tanks... When my wife got her ESA, her anxiety caused her to go a little overboard with research to see what we would be allowed to get with the guidelines set down by federal law as well as our housing rules, and found out that our housing had a couple of weird things set up in the first place, and by the time we were in the process for my ESA, several things had been changed in the housing providers rules. First off, we had to fill out an application to be considered able to obtain an ESA before we were supposed to purchase one, which included information about our "proposed" ESA. This approval process was handled by a separate entity from the housing provider altogether, through the college's disability resource center (DRC), which is responsible for providing resources for anyone on campus requesting disability accomodations. For those that don't know ESA law, that's very unusual, at least based on the wording in the laws and the vast majority of cases.
Secondly, we found out that the DRC had put in place new restrictions on the ESAs they would approve, and these changes went through about a year after my wife got her ESA and a year before I ended up needing an ESA. The most important change for our story had to do with a dog's age. In their updated policy, they stated that any ESA under the age of 8 months old is highly unlikely to be approved based on the high demand of attention a young puppy would demand of a student and the amount of damage a puppy could potentially incur in an apartment setting. This is kind of stipulation or rule is in direct violation of the federal laws concerning the grounds a housing provider can deny/demand the removal of an ESA. (The law basically states that the only reasons an ESA can be denied or demanded be removed is if a housing provider can PROOVE that the specific animal is causing significant damage either physically or financially to the property or other tenants or if there is some sign of neglect, basically anything really concerning after they have the evidence and have had the animal in the first place). Blanket statement restrictions based on age, size, weight, or even breed have been outrightly stated as unlawful reasons for denying or removing an ESA from a property. We saw this rule, and we knew the laws supporting our rights for obtaining an ESA, and we decided to go ahead and get a puppy.
And so we ended up getting an 8 week old poodle mix puppy to minimize allergies and have something with enough energy to get me working again. We explained all of our reasoning for getting a puppy in my application for approval to the DRC (this application also had questions that were either nearly breaching doctopatient confidentiality, or were blatantly asking extremely personal questions to health care providers along the lines of "what about your patients' disability makes you believe they would benefit from an ESA" or "what is the nature of your patients' disability that would necessitate an ESA"... Really scummy, painful questions). The way they had their approval process set up, it made it seem like these questions were absolutely necessary in order to receive approval to obtain an ESA, although they claimed it was not necessary despite always pushing applicants to submit it along with a doctor's note/recommendation.
A bit more than 2 weeks later, I get their response asking why my wife's ESA can't serve as my ESA, to which I have to send them documentation explaining that he had been trained in calming my wife, and my needs are quite different, to which we waited another week before they then decided I was approved for getting an ESA and that I would need to submit more info on what kind of dog I was planning on getting. At this point, it had taken long enough for them to get back to us that we had already gotten our puppy, and life was starting to get better for me. So we sent in the final bit of the application: the info on our puppy and how we were going to be housing her (crate info, training regiment, vaccine record, etc). It took a further 2 more weeks for them to finally get back to us.
Your request has been denied due to the age of the dog you have submitted. Those words hurt me more than I care to admit. We didn't think that they would be stupid enough to actually deny her based off of age, especially with all of the training plans and other information we gave them to show them we knew what we were doing with a puppy. So after we took a day to calm our outage, we emailed them back (we made sure to get everything in writing) sharing with them a link to the page that contained the exact law they were in danger of breaking, I even included a screenshot of the highlighted paragraph to show them we had done our research. Interestingly enough, their response to that came back the same day. The heat of the department was the one who responded to our email then, haughtily starting that he knew more about ESA law than we did, and that there wasn't anything we could do to change their decision to deny my ESA. Remember how I said we already had my ESA? That was also allowed according to the law, an ESA is technically allowed in the housing during the decision process, although it's not really recommended.
Well, we decided to give them one more chance, asking the director to really go and read the law, since it was obvious he had not even read half the email we had sent him previously, stating that we were ready to start submitting a claim with the Housing and Urban Development agency, which was the department of the federal government that handles a number of things, including enforcing the ESA laws I've been referencing this entire time. We also said that we were ready to also obtain legal representation for this whole process, as we knew that retaliation may happen (some people were acting a bit power hungry and would potentially ignore any anti-retaliation clauses that might trigger as soon as we submitted the claim to the HUD). The email we got back was almost word for word the same as the previous one, stating he knew more than us and that we could be evicted if we didn't remove our new puppy from the property, either through re-homing her or moving out.
Now, my wife has the mama bear trigger, as soon as she read the threat that the head of the DRC sent us, she immediately submitted the claim to the HUD that we were experiencing illegal harassment and being unlawfully denied my ESA based on housing rules that were in violation of the ESA laws. We knew as soon as this was sent in, that any retaliation against us from that moment on would end up landing the entire college in really hot water, so we felt very protected, and very powerful in moving forward from there. We then reached out to our local Disability Law Center, since they provided free legal advice and potentially pro Bono legal representation. They were extremely kind, and we were soon put in touch with an expert with the kind of cases that we had on our hands, and they were more than happy to have us begin having any of the correspondence from the college concerning the case and our ESA go through them.
The head of the DRC of course tried to not communicate with us through our friendly lawyer, who very quickly realized that the DRC was not going to back down, even with the investigation from the HUD ongoing. We were informed that nothing else could happen until the HUD could finish their investigation and could then turn over their findings to our lawyer and the lead for the investigation/mediation. During that time, with the non-retaliation clause in place, I was able to enjoy raising and training my puppy in the relative safety of our apartment.
Once the investigation was completed, we received word that yes, they did find several items in which the college/housing provider was in violation of, to which our lawyer then began meeting with the college's legal team and the mediator to work out a quick settlement. A mediation date was set, and since it was during the social distancing time, everything was to be done virtually, which should have made it easy for everyone to attend. Nope. No one from the college showed up for that first mediation, and both the mediator and our lawyer were fuming. Our lawyer later found out that the legal team had claimed that there was nothing illegal or nothing wrong with anything in the policy concerning ESAs. Come to find out later that they were taking the word of the DRC director at face value, and he was lying his ass off to everyone. A second mediation was scheduled, and this time, a member of the college legal team attended., And we were finally able to come to an agreement without having to escalate the issue tk the court system.
The aftermath: turns out the HUD was seriously not happy with the college, and the reparations they were requiring consisted of paying damages to us, paying our lawyer his fees, a 6 months deadline to change the policies, all of the employees that deal with housing and all of the DRC had to take extensive ada training, and we were required to not try to sue the college for the same issue again.
So in the end, I got to keep my dog, got paid to keep her, and we seriously spat "bet" in the DRCs face when they said they knew more than an anxiety ridden wife lol

I have this 47 gallon (182 liters) freshwater aquarium that i converted to brackish to hold my figure 8 puffer. After he passed (6 years later) i turned it back into freshwater to house angelfish. I recently fell in love with this percula clownfish at my LFS and i was wondering how to convert a lightly planted tank to a FOWLR tank? (fish only with live rock). By the way, i have a canister filter, a chihiros light (color and brightness adjustable by mobile app) and an ATMAN surface skimmer. Can i make the transition?

2023.05.31 07:48 GrapefruitPerfect149 I made the septic tank explode
Just like the title says… I broke it
There was too much vomit in the septic tank that exceeds it’s capacity, and things just keeps coming out of the septic tank.
It was everywhere and it smells horrible. When I saw the things coming out, I knew exactly it was the food I purge(there were pieces of food, small plastics)…
My mom had to call the cesspool entire truck to see what was going on. I freaked out cause she’ll know everything(which eventually she did).
The guy said our septic tank is totally destroyed. There were huge chunks of oil stuck on the side, and he could only get some out. He also pulled out chunks of food…
At this moment, I can only feel shame. Shame on me, shame on me holding onto this disorder, shame on me for breaking the trust my family had in me, shame on me for hurting the little girl.
This is honestly the worst nightmare ever, the worst fear I’ve never thought would happen

2023.05.31 07:34 Key-Permission9644 i think my fish is dying and i need help
tl;dr: my betta has clamped fins that are thinning, is lethargic, and has a stomach bulge- how do i solve this?
hello everyone. i’ve had my betta Sirarcha for about three years. when i first got him, he was pale, and wasn’t in the best health. after i got him and put him in a five gallon tank rather than the pet store cup he came in, his red color became brighter, and his blue spots started to show, and he became super energetic. about two years into owning him, i had to go on a two week long work trip.
when i was on my work trip, my sister agreed to care for my betta. during this time, his tank grew a thick blanket of hair algae due to my sister over feeding him and leaving his lights on for too long. even with multiple water changes and water treatments, the hair algae never went away. to solve, i bleached his tank as it has a non removable filter (you can only remove the cartridge) and bought him all new tank decorations such as silk plants (i have a black thumb unfortunately and struggle to keep even aquatic plants alive) and a new betta hammock. while this stopped the issue of hair algae, it created other problems.
ever since, he’s been growing more lethargic and has been losing his swimming ability and color rapidly. it has now been nine months, and his fins are so thin you can see through them. he is also beginning to look translucent as well. furthermore, he struggles a lot to swim upright and mainly floats on his side. he has a bulge in his stomach as well.
i’ve tried feeding him a boiled pea, doing more water changes, using different food brands, using different water chemical brands, etc, and have had no luck.
does anyone know what his ailment might be along with how i should treat it? i want to try my best to help him, and this is my last resort before euthanasia as he’s suffering.

RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE CAMPAIGN ASSESSMENT, MAY 30, 2023 Russia claimed that Ukraine conducted a series of drone strikes against Moscow on May 30 as Russia again targeted Ukraine with Iranian-made Shahed drones. Russian President Vladimir Putin attempted to downplay the drone attack on Moscow to avoid exposing the limited options he has to retaliate against Ukraine. The drone attack on Moscow generated varied responses from the Russian information space. The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) is likely attempting to conceal the high Russian losses in Ukraine by artificially inflating Ukrainian casualties in the war. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell stated that Russia will not enter negotiations while trying to win the war. Russian forces conducted limited ground attacks northeast of Kupyansk and northwest of Svatove, and Russian sources claimed that Russian forces conducted a ground attack south of Kreminna. The tempo of Russian and Ukrainian offensive operations in the Bakhmut direction remains low as of May 30. Russian forces made marginal advances amid continued ground attacks on the Avdiivka-Donetsk City line. Russian forces did not conduct any confirmed ground attacks along the southern axis. Russian officials are establishing domestic veteran support programs which likely aim to advertise the perks of military service in Russia. Russian occupation officials continue to deport Ukrainian children to Russia under the guise of providing pediatric healthcare.

Hello, I just wanted to know if this Lexus would be a good deal as my first car. The car is super clean, has no rust or damage. I did a pre purchase inspection and the mechanic said that the only thing to look out for is traces of coolant leaking outside of the engine from head gasket. I see no symptoms of a blown head gasket… oil is clear as day, no smoke, no noise, and the temperature gauge is in the middle of “H” and “C” but leaning more towards “C”. Do you think this is a good deal? Should I buy it?

2023.05.31 06:45 __hereforthesnacks Help me save my tank!
So I have a 10 gallon tank with a few black mollies, two African dwarf frogs (we had a third and he died, not sure if that’s relevant) and a random snail that popped up out of nowhere about a month after we set everything up. We’ve had the tank for about three months. Everything was fine and balanced for a while, but about a month or so ago, a lot of algae has accumulated and the room it’s in has started smelling like a dirty tank. I’ve taken the whole thing apart and cleaned it all a few times and I’ve tried to vacuum the rocks/replace some water every couple of weeks. We only feed them once a day so it’s not dirty from over feeding. What can I do to balance things out somehow and keep it clean and not smelly?

Tank Size/Parameters/Maintenance: Size: Split 10-gallon with another betta on the other side (before anyone asks, they've been in this setup for 2 months and both have had actually improved color and behavior during this time) Water Changes: 25-40%, 2x a week Temp: Consistently 80° PH: Consistently 7.8 Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 5 Two days ago, Maestro wasn't acting any differently and didn't look any different. He's normally very friendly, coming up to front of the tank to see me. He was eating normally, acting just fine. Yesterday, I noticed he seemed to be having a little trouble with his swim bladder, so after his regularly scheduled water change, I put him in a mesh breeder basket within the tank to make things a little easier for him. He was also acting scared and hiding a lot, and he wouldn't eat, which was alarming. Today he's been floating at the surface, not moving a lot. He's definitely still alive, as his gill are moving and his fins move sometimes, but he's very unwell. He's pineconing really badly. I'm not optimistic about if he'll even make it to the morning. Right now he's in a cup, within the breeder box, to hopefully give him even less trouble. He keeps alternating between being pointed straight down, to floating back at the surface again. I just don't know what happened, I didn't think he could get so bad, so fast. I've recently lost two other bettas, but at least with both of them, I knew why. One passed because her tank heater malfunctioned and her temp was bouncing back and forth between 86 and 76 daily, which she couldn't adjust to and it ultimately made her very sick and she passed. The other, he got extremely stressed from being moved to the split tank, which allowed opportunistic bacteria to get him sick, and when I was going to move him back to his original tank, he was already gone. But with Maestro, I'm just at a loss, because all the parameters have been consistent, water changes have been consistent... and it just happened so suddenly. And not that there really is any correlation, but for some reason the three fish I've lost were all ones I actually picked. Like, "Oh I'm drawn to this one, I'm getting him/her." All the rest of my bettas, other than Niko, are rescues that had either been at the store a long time, had fin rot, swim bladder disease, etc, and they're all fine. Sorry for rambling, I'm just trying to figure out what went wrong... Like I know betta genetics just suck, especially in the US, and I probably didn't do anything wrong, but I'm just so sad and frustrated... submitted by rosaline_womble to bettafish [link] [comments] |

I work at a marina as a tech and am getting pissed off at the stupid oil pumps that you have to pump by hand, what can I use on the 55 gallon oil drums to pump them easier? I was thinking a water transfer pump sitting on top plugged in but wanted a second opinion.

2023.05.31 05:58 BrilliantHungry0 Old edger runs again, kinda
I have an edger that hasn't ran since 2008 and today I finally got it to run. The primer bulb literally disentagrated because it was outside all those years and today me and my friend got it run for at most 15 seconds. It's got old car oil, still good oil tho, 5w-20, and it's filled a lot more than it should. My dad says it needs a new carburetor, but also says it's not running because the primer bulb having a hole in it is making it not run because the pressure is escaping and not drawing fuel from the gas tank. I don't think it needs a new carburetor as the one on it was brand when it was put aside in 2008 and seems to run fine except the pressure escaping. Thoughts?

2023.05.31 05:52 bellabloppy Am I a bad betta parent? Please Help!!
| Reposting this because I wrote it in a state of panic... This is Omen, my cherished baby boy. He isn't my first betta fish, but he is the betta I have learned the most about. To alleviate some anxiety, I wanted to make a post for some help and advice because I am super worried about his condition. Here is some Info about my setup; Tank size: 5 gallons. Heater and filter? No. Tank temperature: 78 degrees F. Parameters in numbers and how you got them: 9.5 x 14.5 inch (I think) measured with a tape measure. How long have you had the tank? How long have you had your fish?: the tank is a few years old Omen (the fish) is almost 1 year old. How often are water changes? How much do you take out per change? What is your process?: Changed the water about a few months apart. Take out most of the tank water with a siphon leaving about 10% water. At the same time, I remove most algae and clean off the decor with warm water. Any tankmates? If so, please list with how many of each: No tank mates. What do you feed and how much: Betta Bio-Gold Pellets 5 pellets twice daily. Decorations and plants in the tank: Two rock decors and some small statues. The Problem: So the first pic is what his tank looked like when I first got him and was still learning about bettas. (August 14th, 2022). The second pic is his tank now...(May 30th, 2023). With that in mind, Omen has lost color in his fins and fin definition in the past few months. At first, I thought he was stressed because he could not find a mate, but after some research, I am unsure what is causing the stress. (he is most likely super stressed out. No diseases are to be found) From the photos, you can see how green and full of algae? the tank is. I am disappointed in my care for Omen and feel I am no better than a pet store. Why such neglect? FYI I DID NOT NEGLECT HIM ON PURPOSE. I LOVE HIM SO SO MUCH!!! But I used to work two jobs while being a full-time college student I didn't have the time for regular maintenance. Then something happened lost my job and went into a mega-depression episode, and I have not changed Omens water since...(more than I wanna admit). Yes, I still feed him, and his feeding schedule is slowly changing as of now. (NO, I never ever stopped feeding him) I felt terrible, so I spent little money and got him new stuff. I pray to whatever fish god there is that by the time I get the new stuff he will be ok. This is what I have gotten as basics (my thought process is if I change up his environment and diet, it might help and avoid more expenses), but if I need to invest in other medical stuff, I am more than willing to. I am already debating on getting aquarium salt and API Betta Fix because I think he might have fin rot...but I don't want just to any conclusions without any advice and help. Please help; I love my baby boy and want to make him feel better. I want to fix my mistake.
